  1. From looking on social media, most Cedar Point fans seem happy that one of the park’s signature rides is going to be running again after being on a multi season hiatus. I’m assuming they stuck with “Top Thrill” because it’s familiar with locals and those who grew attached to the original concept.

Personally, I don’t think this ride was meant to pull new people to the park- for example, I’m not certain people who frequent Magic Mountain and Great Adventure will make the trek to Cedar Point to ride something that’s very similar to what their parks already offer.

Years ago, someone said that Valravn was for the GP and Steel Vengeance was for enthusiasts and I think that applies here: Top Thrill 2 is more of a GP coaster. If it was geared towards enthusiasts, it would have been something crazy like the roll-back being a full reverse drop from the top hat, or a 500ft tall spike, or something insane. In reality, the new layout fixes a long standing maintenance problem by eliminating the hydraulic launch in favor of more reliable LSMs. Because of the launch being LSMs, the launches won’t be as intense as the rapid acceleration of the hydraulics.

Maybe I’m wrong with it being more GP based but I think the general reaction from park goers, at least on social media, was “look it’s back, and it does something new!”

You mean another CF park is only going to do a press release for a much bigger announcement than KI's improvement this year?

Maybe it's the company and not the person (cross-threading)

I mean what they plan to do with TTD is a highly anticipated announcement.

Given that there’s a negative reason as to why they refurbished TTD, Cedar Point might not want to have a huge event to commemorate it.

I agree. Really it is running at 1/4 capacity because only half of one of the two trains is running.

To operate a 6 car train you only need 4 people… I thought there was a waitlist to be hired, surely it can’t be that hard to find one extra person to supervise the back half.

  4. Here’s a rant: the train running at half capacity during 10-10 business hours is ridiculous. Imagine waiting 15 minutes to get on the train to go to Soak City only to have to wait another 15 minutes because they’re only pulling 3 passenger cars and they’re already full.

Sorry to be the Negative Nellie here but at this point, if Kings Island thinks they are getting that golden ticket award back from Dollywood for best kids area they are plain stupid! Why did Dollywood get it to begin with? Because Dollywood's "kiddy coasters" are more like family coasters with low height requirements so that kids can ride but adults like them too. Kings Island kiddy coasters with the exception of Woodstock Express do not appeal to anyone over 48" because they aren't that good and once you're 4' tall you can ride stuff that is so much better. I personally don't want to see a snoopy racing railway clone because I don't think we really need another kiddy coaster that adults cannot ride and that will only hold the attention of guests under 48" (we already have 3 coasters in that department) Unfortunately, because of the way management and money goes, we're probably getting one because it was part of a multi year package deal type thing with the manufacturer.

If they want to target kids but still make a coaster that's going to appeal to everyone than our management needs to start looking at Dollywood and give us a real family coaster that has a low height requirement like big bear Mountain. Something like that in The Vortex plot would be perfectly acceptable to me.

Maybe it’s just me but I personally don’t think they’re fighting to get the golden ticket award back. Planet Snoopy’s packed regardless of what awards they receive. Besides, if they really wanted to get the “World’s Best Kids Area” back, they wouldn’t be closing some of their rides early or delay opening others.

Personally I think people looking at the SOB station are looking at the wrong side of the park.

I took a stroll through Planet Snoopy and noticed a man lift in the theatre.  It appears to be directly under the rail in the rafters holding the lighting, and all of the lights to the right of the lift appear to have been removed.

Stripping the building as preparation for demolition?  Maybe it will be reused?  Either way I think something is going on.

I think it’s in preparation for the Snoopy’s Racing Railway clone that we’re rumored to receive

  7. @Captain Nemo Maybe that’s the SOP nowadays for them. I’m not defending it by any means but there’s no reason why people need to be blocked. That would be something I’d be interested in hearing from corporate. Perhaps corporate says “you have the ability to block people at your discretion.”

Again, I’d love to hear corporate’s response to this issue because it does indeed not provide good customer service.

  8. This seems to have turned into a rant thread. I understand people are frustrated, I myself included, but at times it feels excessive and comes off as obsessive.

Can anyone who knows the answer explain how not running both trains keys stay on AE and The Bat helps the park save money? I realize the other side of Racer is like having another ride. That one the logic makes sense to me. The not running an extra train does not, at least in my naive understanding.

Dumb thought, creating longer lines might encourage people to buy fast lanes?

  10. Those people who are the most vocal about the park’s communication are those who have a communication background of some kind whether they’ve studied it in college, worked in a communication related field, or are in charge of large groups. People aren’t complaining just for the sake of complaining or because they have a personal vendetta against the park’s communication department….. they saw how the PR was run in the past and how that quality has gone down recently.

Even people who aren’t super familiar with the PR aspect are noticing the questionable communication practices as of late.

Just because one person answers park related questions on their personal account doesn’t mean another person has to.

No but it’s become somewhat of a standard. Don also used his personal account for park related stuff.
