  1. I’d like to see Flight of Fear with Zamperla Lightning trains which look comfortable. I’m not sure if Backlot could receive the same trains or if they could do something different like a Thunderbolt train, which seats 4 across which would more than likely require a station modification but could help with capacity.

The former I’m hopeful for, the latter I’m just hopelessly optimistic.

I find it interesting that they are keeping a racing theme.  I would have thought they would have tried to distance the ride from that.

I thought so too. It’s similar to how Top Gun became Flight Deck. I think they’re assuming that people will still call it Dragster and they’re just trying to keep a familiar theme.

Personally I would have went total rebrand and left out anything tying into high speed cars- but then again, maybe this won’t be themed to cars.

train cars were bursting at the seams because only one train with three cars was operating (instead of the usual six cars) to take people to and from Soak City.

That’s rare. Typically one train/ 3 car operations happens when they only want to staff one conductor per train. Since the train ride goes through tighter curves, you need a conductor on each end to oversee the whole train- the first 3 cars are supervised by the front conductor and the last 3 are supervised by the back conductor.

I rode last year with 3 car ops once but I believe it had rained earlier that day. Typically you will see 3 car ops when the park has lower attendance like weekdays before Memorial Day weekend. They only used to run 3 car ops in the fall because the old Haunt platform could only accommodate 3 cars.

Sounds to me like they were operating at the bare minimum. I’m not sure how hard it is to find one more person to supervise the back half of the train to allow 6 car ops but I’m not a scheduler.

Considering the big debt that CF currently has, the serious inflation of the past two years and the way many other parks are ran (ie. way worse than this), these changes seem pretty reasonable to me.

I thought so too at first but I think people are more worried about what happens down the road of attendance drops further. You close rides early to save money, less people show up/stay at the park later in response to having less options, you close more rides and food stand early because there’s not enough guests to justify keeping them staffed, and the cycle continues.

Park guests when they show up to see the sight of an empty section of field.

And they probably still pay $5 for a milkshake

  6. Imagine, for a moment, that malls are thriving.

There’s a food court that has multiple different options- all owned by the mall. After a while the mall starts to close down a few food stands early. So what happens? Less people show up to the mall and less people stay in the mall after a certain time which in turn prompts the mall to shut down even more stands.

  7. I understand the logic behind some rides but at the end of the day, people are paying admission to be in the park- rides should be open.

I’m sure someone will make the excuse, “you’re not paying to ride the rides, your paying to get admission into the park.”

  8. I’ve worked for two different parks in the chain and I was always told that attention to detail was everything. How can management stress attention to detail when the chain allows posts like this?

I wouldn’t say that new trains from Premier would be much of an upgrade. It’s the same restraint system for the most part except they added over the shoulder straps as well. The carts are just as cramped as well, at least from my experience on Tigris and Tempesto.

I think FoF is at age were it would need just entirely rebuilt like the what Universal did with the Incredible Hulk coaster. If possible I would probably invite an entirely different manufacturer to do it tho.

Theming wise I think it would be cool if they added stars in planets inside were the bulk of the coaster is. Also add more theming to the interior of the alien space ship itself. Kings Dominion’s FoF is an odd ball tho being in the Jungle X perdition area technically while also sitting next to a racing themed Giga coaster. They could theme it as an emergency landed space craft in the jungle or remove everything aliens and theme it to an indoor test track facility.

    Premier train:

    I meant a Zamperla train

I think such a conversion only happens if each ride gets a major overhaul/rebrand as a “new” attraction, but at that point with the cost of installing LSM’s (not that I have any idea what such a cost is), are you better off just buying a new coaster from the ground-up? It’s a great question, though, @SonofBaconator.

Like @BeeastFarmer said, for FoF it would make sense because of its popularity to keep it running smooth for the next decade or so. BLSC is also a popular ride with the families so if you completely retheme it, I could see the benefit of LSMs, unless they replace it with a modern LSM family.

TL;DR, both coasters are popular and it wouldn’t hurt if Zamperla could “RMC” our launched coasters.

Firehawk was an abysmal coaster - sorry, but it was.  It was beneath KI to install a second hand coaster that wasn't even good to start with.

Would you have thought differently if we received, say, Dominator? It seems we were destined for a GL relocation in some form or another.

  12. I’m going to play devil’s advocate for a second. With regards to Planet Snoopy, the dry rides that would be closing early are all in the back corner:

I personally don’t see this change as a huge loss for parents. By 9pm, I think the little ones who ride Beetle Bugs, Peanuts 500, Snoopy’s Junction, and the off-road rally will already be tired.

Kings Island would do a Reds or Bengals themed ride before a soccer theme.

Not a soccer theme. What I’m saying is Cedar Fair planning to give their parks a new attraction at the same time a huge event is happening in the metropolitan area.

To give you another example. Let’s say it’s announced that the World’s Fair is coming to Toronto in 2027. Do you think Cedar Fair would take advantage of this and chose 2027 to be the year they give Wonderland a new coaster since they know that region is going to see a lot of people already?

Basically planning your asset installations based off of local events in attempt to get the most attendance possible for that season. You’re already planning on giving your parks rides, you’re just planning them a little bit more strategically.

You mean how B&M consider them hypers, yet parks market them as "giga" coasters, that really is a name from Intamin  LOL

    image.png

I think B&M truly classifies their coasters based off of their trains. If you go by the trains on Orion, Fury, and Leviathan, then they technically would be hypers. When Cedar Point put different trains on the now defunct Mantis, it went from a standup coaster to a floorless coaster. In theory, if you put surf trains on Diamondback, it will technically be a surf coaster, and so on.

  15. In 2026, the United States will be hosting the FIFA World Cup, which hasn’t happened since the 90s. At one point Cincinnati was on the ballot to be a host city but ultimately we were scratched. With that being said, if Cincinnati were to have gotten the go-ahead to be a host city, would KI have gotten a coaster to take a vantage of the event to boost attendance for that season?

It’s possible that we might already be getting a coaster in 2026, but my question is, do you think outside events like the World Cup could influence a chain’s decision on which parks to invest in for a particular season?

  16. I think people have the right to be frustrated over these things. Don did a lot to help make our park great and promoted the heck out of hit. What @Orion-XL200 and @BoddaH1994 said aren’t inaccurate and aren’t a slight in him personally, but rather are comments about his communication skills or the possible lack there of. I remember when we weren’t getting a ton of information about Adventure Port for a while and Chad was tweeting about how there were Panda Expresses in Germany.

Almost every time I’d be at the park I would see Don, either engaging with employees, talking with guests, or simply walking around. I know just seeing someone in passing isn’t a good judge of character, and I’m not at the park everyday to really see who’s where but when you see more of one person and less of another, you get a good sense of who’s more involved and who isn’t.

If you want people to continue to come to your park and spend money, you have to be engaging and communicate with your audience effectively. Chad might not be a bad communicator for the park, but we haven’t seen anything that proves that yet. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, he seems friendly- but from a professional standpoint, things could be executed better than they have been. To be clear, it’s not just people on here that are frustrated, there are tons of people on social media like Facebook and Twitter that feel the same way.

With Don gone, I think there’s a huge hole that’s going to be hard to fill.
