  1. I've ridden RFYLCB solo a few times (I'm 31), and you might feel a little awkward at first the first time but it goes away pretty quickly. I've learned to not care what other people might think, lol. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  2. Walls are still up today so no softs until at least tomorrow, but desperately hoping I'll be able to ride during my visit on 5/5! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  3. Man, that's almost what Disney paid for Star Wars. Seems high to me (granted I'm pretty ignorant about the subject, but still). I also heard yesterday that the deal includes theme park rights to the other Dreamworks company, but I haven't bothered to look up how accurate that is. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  4. That doesn't make a ton of sense to me. I don't really see the correlation between your first 2 sentences and people buying more tickets. And there seems to be way more complaining about how Disney drags its feet with construction than anything else. In fact most of the media coverage I've read is about how little there is to do at HS now that the 2 new lands are under construction. How is that going to get more people into the park until it opens? Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  5. CP's version of Rivertown (I'm too lazy to look up the proper name) plays great music that fits the theme perfectly. I recall hearing a bluegrass instrumental version of Rocketman the last time I was there -- it was awesome. Plus they had some generic music to match the theming as well. There's not a ton of theming elements in that area, but the music alone did a great job of immersing me in that theme. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  6. I'm a big proponent of themed music also. In my opinion it is the most underrated element of theming, yet one of the cheapest to pull off I would think. It very much helps immerse guests in the experience. Each themed area and/or attraction should have music that accompanies the experience. And it really doesn't have to be "music" per se; it can also be sounds that match the theme to create a little more ambiance. It's super easy for areas like IS, Rivertown and Octoberfest, and for rides like The Bat or Banshee. Now I haven't been to the park in a while so they might already do this, but last time I was there it felt like just about every ride and area was homogenized with pop music. 7. Yeah because KI has such terrible wooden coasters. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  8. That certainly seems believable. ROL isn't even listed as "new summer entertainment" on Disney's website anymore (it still was as of last week). So knows at this point when it'll actually debut. They've already been working on it for 3 years now! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  9. Only a 2 minute walk? So yes? Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  10. Couldn't you say the same thing about a woodie?Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  11. Any update for those who've been to the park this year? The 2016 thread has way too many posts for me to go through! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  12. This past Saturday was my first ever experience with an escape room. My wife and I and 3 other couples got together and it was the first time for everyone else as well. We did a little research and saw that there are 4 or 5 other companies that do escape rooms in greater Cincinnati, but Breakout Cincinnati in Hyde Park seemed to be the most highly regarded. We booked it about 5 weeks ago and this was the first Saturday they had any availability for (and it was a fairly early time at 4:20 PM), so I assume it is very popular, especially on the weekends. It was certainly busy that day as well. For those who have never done an escape room or aren't sure what it entails, basically you are locked in a room and have to piece together a series of clues and puzzles to eventually come up with the code to unlock the door and escape the room. I believe they have 4 different rooms, and the one we did was their Casino Royale room. Being a regular casino patron, I loved the theming of our room and our scenario. Like I said I've never tried an escape room before so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I will say that all 8 of us thought it was fantastic and an absolute blast. We escaped the room with only 26 seconds remaining! The host said that roughly 30% of groups make it out of their rooms in time. Our particular room was of "moderate" difficulty according to our host. It seemed pretty linear to me -- i.e. one clue led you to the next which led you to the next, etc. without much back- tracking, though I've heard other rooms are not nearly as linear. While some were tougher to decipher than others, I thought all of our clues and puzzles were fair with 1 exception. Just 1 of the elements (it was kind of a puzzle I guess; it's tough to describe without giving away any spoilers) was pretty obscure and made you really think outside the box, but outside of that I thought the difficulty was perfectly on point. Now you do have a "game master" that watches over you the entire time that you can ask for help 3 separate times, so that helped tremendously. If it weren't for that, I'm pretty sure we'd have never figured out the obscure element. Overall, like I said before, all 8 of us loved it and are already working on finding a day that works for all of us so we can try one of their other rooms. The one negative is the cost; if you bring a full group of 8, the cost is $28 per person; if you have fewer than 8 then they charge you $35 per person. That's an awful lot for 1 hour of entertainment, but it sure was fun. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking to try something "different" for a night out.
  13. Catching up a bit with some recent news, after being announced to debut on 4/22, Rivers of Light and all of the night time enhancements at AK have been pushed back indefinitely. No further announcements on the status of the show are expected until late May. This is a major bummer for me as I'm leaving for my trip in 2 weeks. I was really looking forward to ROL and the night time Safari. Also staffing cuts have caused capacity at certain attractions to be greatly reduced, causing wait times to skyrocket. This past spring break peak time saw average waits reach as high as they've ever been. To me it seems like all their efforts to reduce wait times with the FP+ system is pretty pointless if they're not going to run at full capacity. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  14. I think there's some kind of media event scheduled for June 22, so I imagine this ride will open sometime around then. Looking forward to it for sure! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  15. #thanksshanghai on Twitter cracks me up, lol. I've heard the rumor that perhaps Iger is wanting to stick around for longer than originally planned? Who knows. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  16. If you're already interested in the Be Our Guest breakfast, which will cost you about $30 per person or so I'm guessing for pretty average food, then this is really only an extra $40 per person to get you on 7DMT and Peter Pan (and Pooh) without a wait and without using a FP on 2 rides that almost require them with how bad their stand-by waits are. So essentially you're paying for 2 extra FPs. Is it worth it? Not in my opinion, but if you desperately want to do MK in just 1 day (for whatever reason), then I guess it might be. Or if you're going during peak times I guess you might consider it worthwhile. On a somewhat related note, the first $149 per person evening extended hours event at MK was this past Thursday. For those that don't know what it is, a limited number of people are allowed in the park for 3 additional hours after the regular closing time with soft drinks and ice cream novelties provided. You do not need to purchase admission to MK in addition to the event ticket; the event ticket by itself gets you into the park at 7 PM and lets you stay through 2 AM on nights where the park closes at 11. Reports are everything was a walk on and most rides you could re-ride as often as you like without exiting the ride vehicle. Pretty cool in theory, but I personally don't think the rides at MK are all that re-rideable. Splash Mountain is my favorite ride anywhere, but if I rode it 5 times in a row I'm pretty sure the "magic" would wear off rather quickly. It does make sense in some scenarios though. RE: sales of 1 day only tickets, I've read that roughly 10% of ticket sales are 1 day tickets. I didn't see any details explaining that, so I don't know if that means that 10% of people in the parks on average are using a 1 day ticket, or if it means that for every 9 multi-day ticket packages that are sold, one 1-day ticket is sold, but either way that percentage is higher than I would have guessed. I'm guessing a lot of that 10% are people on property that are there for conventions and whatnot? I really don't know. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  17. The DIS boards are similar. Sooo much complaining. Complaint threads seem to get the most activity over there, too. There are complainers everywhere -- including here -- but it at least seems to me like the passion for KI on this forum far outweighs the complaints. On the DIS boards it seems more 50/50.Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  18. I'm notorious for sitting on the fence with regards to social issues, and this is no exception. I've heard both sides of the argument -- the "Sea World has done a great service for marine biologists by allowing us to study orcas more closely in a manner that is safe for the animals" side and the "what Sea World does is torture" side -- and I honestly don't know what to believe. Bottom line though is the numbers don't lie, and double digit losses for that many consecutive quarters means change needs to be made. The court of public opinion is what matters and they have spoken with their wallets. And yes, fried okra is awesome. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  19. I would be upset if the WDW was changed just since it is such a unique attraction and fits into the theme of that area of the park so well. But I suppose if they redid that entire section of the park and did a fantastic overlay it wouldn't be as bad, but feels unneeded. However having ridden the one at DCA I don't feel it would be that huge of a loss really. I enjoyed the ride and it was fun but it's really just a standard Drop Tower experience and it is at the very end of the street so could easily be annexed into a new Marvel land. And as has been suggested for a theme it wouldn't even need to change much, just be similar story to Tokyo Disney Sea with the Collector's place/collection versus Lord Henry Mystic's.I disagree about it being a standard Drop Tower experience. I haven't been to nearly as many parks as you veterans on this site, but to me it seems pretty unique. Doesn't it have a random drop sequence? I've personally never been on a Drop Tower ride like it. 20. All the "jump scares" have been removed from Haunted Mansion as well, as far as I can tell. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  21. I love ToT, but I can't say I'd be all that outraged if it were converted to a GotG theme. I have no doubt it'd still be a great ride. Now the changes they made to Alien Encounter (now Stitch) and Journey to Imagination are unforgivable. Maelstrom to Frozen remains to be seen; I guarantee I personally won't like it as much as Maelstrom but I can understand why they're converting it. The lines for that ride are going to be ridiculous lol. As for shark's comments about Epcot, I agree while disagreeing at the same time. It could certainly use some TLC, especially the Future World side, but for my family of 4 adults, it might be our most looked forward to park for our upcoming trip. I've never been during Flower and Garden, but I've heard nothing but good things. Plus I love the older, more relaxed rides that bring the nostalgia factor, like Spaceship Earth and Living With the Land. If you have younger children though, I can see how it'd only be like a half day park. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  22. I loved Days of Thunder and I'm not a NASCAR fan at all. 7th Portal was very fun also. The rest were meh to me. As fun as DoT was, I'm pretty sure it'd seem really dated if it were still around. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  23. I'm sure Storm Chaser will be a fun ride, but I'm sorry, that thing is an eyesore to look at. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  24. That would make sense if true. The ride seems a little dated at this point. When it opened I had never been on an invert before so I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But even then lines were short, so I was able to ride it about 6-7 times in an hour, maybe more. Now that I've been on some amazing inverts plus the fact that they don't duel any more, that coaster seems about as ordinary as it gets. And since Hogsmeade opened, that is pretty prime real estate these days. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  25. This is where modern times allow me to possibly get myself in trouble. I'll get so excited when Kong opens that I'll watch a bunch of videos and POVs online and forget that I might actually ride it someday, and I won't be as surprised. I need to remind myself not to do that! Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
