You can't do a second run of a limited edition set, otherwise it wouldn't be limited edition anymore.

Plus, I don't think the park physically has enough track to make more. Maybe 10ish more if they have enough scrap, but that's if they're gonna sell more

Well it appears they're probably going to sell some more. So I guess a second run of a limited edition is possible. What I find confusing is the last time I was at the park about 10 days ago there was still a big piece of track---about 10-15 feet or so I'd guess---lying roundabout where the station used to be. This was after the first run of the limited edition items sold. Is that piece still there, and why?

  2. Based on 1) How fast it is anyway, and 2) How hard the brakes hit in certain spots. Yes, I totally believe it would be "out of control" up to 80mph if The Beast was entirely let loose. Likely we'll never know for sure, but the brakes slow the ride down A LOT.

Do you think the temperature screen will be here to stay?

Forever? No way. You mentioned a few posts back "now that covid is here to stay"...also something I highly doubt. The short-term will depend on the efficacy of the vaccines coming. Long-term life goes on. The masks will go away, the temperature checks will go away, the every-other-row seating will go away. The airlines are already getting rid of leaving seats open right now so I'm kinda surprised KI is still sticking to that. Things are already ebbing slowly towards prior normality even in the face of climbing infection rates. That's a pretty telling omen I think.

  4. I honestly (not kidding) thought this was going to be a post about how bad the parking lot needs paved. Not sure how I feel about the cemetery as it pertains to the park. Guessing way back in the day people just cried and buried their loved ones there. Nothing more nothing less. And still their loved ones lay.

  5. Hilarious to me they were actual 'dummies". It was very cold and a bit wet early today. I was at the top of Banshee line and saw WindSeeker running. It looked every-other-full, and I was thinking, "nope, not today". I never got close enough to realize they were just testing.

I think at this point both Kings Island & Cedar Point should probably limit their capacity even more. Considering how bad the midwest is getting hit right now it seems a little irresponsible to be letting such large crowds in. The measures they have in place are good however they don't seem as effective when you have so many people inside the park.

I would tend to agree with you if only I'd read or heard of one outbreak linked to an amusement park. I live close to Indiana Beach and I think people looked on in horror awhile back at some of the pictures posted to these forums at the crowds, the lack of masks, and so on. And yet...nothing covid happened. Probably because most reliable factors are being indoors close to an infected person for 15 minutes or more. Wear your mask, stay distanced, and enjoy the outdoors at Kings Island. I'm not saying it's impossible to get Covid at KI, but I think the past several months have taught us it is unlikely to happen.

  7. Smoking is not a constitutional right, and we should probably leave it there. Kings Island can make their own rules. That is fact. I smoke, and appreciate smoking areas in the park. I'm also aware that they are not required to provide them, but might...if it fits their bottom line. I also cannot smoke in movie theaters, McDonald's (used to, in the 90's), and many, many other establishments. Not really worth opening a KICentral account just to complain about it...lol.

A piece of the track was my number one choice for a souvenir...so I am happy, but the park missed the boat not saving (and selling) pieces of the iconic station...which would have doubled as a Bat souvenir too!

Hopefully they are paying attention. I don't know what they get for scrap (or trash), but I'm thinking there's a lot of us that would buy pieces of old KI rides. They don't even have to make it so pretty...lol. They could sell stuff at the park or create their own ebay page or just put it on the website store. All sorts of things I'm thinking people would buy.

  9. At $198.70 a pop it sounds like the park really under-estimated demand. Perhaps they will reconsider supply? I really don't think this collector's item will gain much in value over time, but the park should take note. If and when the day comes, they can make several million bucks selling off The Beast to fans. If they plan ahead for it.

No chance, they advertised the item as limited edition, and that these would be the only ones that were ever made. If they released another run, then they'd have some problems on their hands.

I saw the part that it was a limited edition, but I missed the language "that these would be the only ones that were ever made".

    Is that real?

I will now step off of my soapbox! :P

Yeah, I mean it's a piece of a roller-coaster. Not exactly necessary for life. And it's now a collectible, as they're sold out. Sometimes that's how it goes. If you REALLY want one you either bid for it on ebay or let it go. Or hope the park sells some more, and you get in line early enough. Is supply and demand really a moral issue when we're talking about a 1.5" piece of roller coaster? I guess it is if you want to make it one.

Although it’s been said, many times, many ways...anyone selling one of The Vortex kits on eBay should be ashamed of themselves. (I hope it is no one here on KIC.)

I picture this ruining it for anyone that actually needs more than one of a limited collectible item in the future.

Why should or would someone be ashamed if they bought something, and someone else is willing to pay them more for it than they bought it for? I guess you've never owned a house.

  12. I appreciate the park offering it up. It's not exactly what some of us were looking for, but they have provided a polished product for those who want and can afford it. Marketing dept kicked in, and here it is. At the end of the day it's better than nothing for many who were clamoring for a piece of Vortex. Take it or leave it. For $198.70.

    Could you describe that route?

My impression is typically Six buys/builds a ride and then slaps the theming on afterwards. In contrast to a ride like Mystic Timbers where I believe theming was at the forefront of the ride development. At least a little bit. Six has many different looking Batman rides, for instance all over the country. None of which that I'm aware of are themed around the Batmobile. Which just seems like obvious planning for a Batman ride. They build random coaster and then just paint it, put on the Batman logo's, and the name. Not really the inspiration for the ride.

  14. I'm not going to lie, Paramount built some cool-themed rides when they owned the park. I DO miss the theming. Really bad. However, I don't think Cedar Fair should go the Six-Flags route, either. That's not going to work as neither company really buys in and sells it. There's a market for dark rides in the midwest. Done right. Not expecting to see one anytime soon.

Included is a Togo promo video for the stand up model.

What are your memories of King Cobra?

I remember waiting hours to ride it. Not at opening day, but on a school trip when I was in 8th grade. It was short, but amazing. Nothing else like it. I wonder though if standups lost favor not because they were bad rides, but due to the capacity. All those restraints take time. I think a modern standup would potentially be amazing, but I doubt anyone wants to build it. It's expensive, not just up-front, but from a daily operation standpoint.

    Nobody is harassing anyone.

There can, and should, be a middle ground between hiding in your basement, and taking no precautions whatsoever. Kings Island has, on the whole, done a pretty decent job of achieving a good balance.

Until you can pinpoint an outbreak at Indiana Beach, or any amusement park for that matter, you're just blowing wind.

He's going to have an uphill battle for a while, particularly due to how remote it is.

The local city provided several million dollars in tax-breaks for anyone who would buy it. The real constraint is space. They need to buyout several homeowners on Lake Shafer and annex some lake space to really expand and build something amazing. Unlikely. Under proper management---which it appears is now the case, but time will tell---the place is great for an evening after work, or a close weekend getaway to ride some rides, and enjoy the lake setting. It'll never be Kings Island, and honestly it'll never be Holiday World. But with proper upkeep of the place anyone can go there and find several hours of fun to be had. But I agree it's a local park more or less. And I don't see that changing. But that's okay if they do it right.

  18. No, it's not over. What I'd like to see is some new ideas though. And don't take that as a complaint about what we've already got because I love what we've got. As much as I love roller coasters, there are many other rides I enjoy at the park, and many types of rides we don't have or could have better. I would have no issue with Cedar Fair giving Cedar Point all the new big coasters for awhile, and we get a better log ride, or a better mine train, or "some" (more than one) thrilling dark rides. There's a multitude of ways to break records, and excite the masses that do not require taller/faster/etc.

I should have said something to them. I’m way too polite...

Yeah, I won't be saying squat to anyone about masks or distancing. Everyone should do both of course, but not worth getting beat up at an amusement park about it. That's too bad. We went August 2nd, and some reports here said it was "too busy", and people weren't behaving appropriate, but we felt almost all were doing the right thing. It's disappointing if folks are getting lax on the rules. In general-life it feels like more and more people are "getting it". So it just surprises me to hear your report. Bummer.

The masks / social distancing situation is pretty abysmal at the park today.

How so? Just curious what "abysmal" is for you. I wasn't at the park today, just wondering. I gotta believe absolutely most folks were wearing masks, and most were trying to distance.

  21. Funpix is a pretty good deal though. For ~$45 a family can get a ton of pics all year. This year is a little different---we typically hit up the paparazzi when we enter the park but can't do that this year. But $45 at Kings Island doesn't go too far most years. Funpix with a Gold Pass is a gift that keeps on giving.
