  1. My first post here in ages. Been lurking on this thread every now and then. I'm excited for the announcement, but people commenting on names they hate...remember the reaction to the name Mystic Timbers? It wasn't great. We all kinda came to terms with it and we're fine...
  2. ^ My whole family agrees with you on spinning rides, but the oldest and I enjoy Delirium because the 'spin' is so minor.
  3. I think it comes off that way, but it was more about the wording not being precise enough to remove all doubt and confusion and some of the statements themselves falling prey to the same lack of clarity. edit: Your claiming it's common sense, while I don't disagree with you, hinges on the assumption that the general population of this planet possesses common sense. Any trip outside of one's own home should be proof enough that that is not the case. As an aside, is it really productive to chime in telling people they've "gone to a new low"? Why not just move on from the thread if you feel that way? Name calling doesn't help anybody.
  4. Winter 2017 is different than just Winter. I did not say Winter started in January. I said Winter 2017 starts in January. Putting them together makes them different. It's like saying the 2016 season starts in April. 2016 starts in January, but the 2016 season starts in April. Kings Island is saying Winter 2017, not just Winter. I see your point now, but most businesses and their managers (the ones you incorrectly imply nobody here knows anything about), when saying "Winter 2017" tend mean "the winter that starts in 2017". Could it have been worded more clearly? Sure. I do think if they meant this coming winter, they would have said "this coming Winter". Also, if people are going to drop $100-200 on a pass (or anything, for that matter) and not fully know and understand what they're buying by not calling and asking questions, I'm not able to muster a ton of sympathy.
  5. ^ I don't mean to sound crass or mean, but you stating Winter starts in January does not make it so. Please do some research and cite a source for Winter starting in January. Otherwise, I'll stick with NOAA, various almanacs, what I was taught in grade school and other sources who have a reputation for knowing such things.
  6. While it's disappointing we won't have Winterfest this coming winter, I think 'fraud' is overly strong assertion. Winter actually starts on December 21. It can be tricky in conversation since it's the only season that spans calendar years. People tend to get confused about 12am and 12pm for reasons not all that different. All along they have said the announcement(s) made this summer were for 2017.
  7. To boost sales of seasons passes that just went on sale. most likely
  8. Seems odd they'd announce it do far in advance if it's next year, but also seems like they wouldn't have said it's returning in 2017 and have it after the holidays (in this coming January) since part of the announcement is a Christmas tree display (why turn the Eiffel Tower into a giant Christmas tree *after* Christmas?).
  9. I think I missed that one...and that could go so many ways. Something in the lyrics for Mustang Sally by Wilson Picket...or the lyrics to Ride Sally Ride by Lou Reed...or the first American woman in space... ...or something completely different.
  10. ^"Claims that an employee told them it's Winterfest" Could be true, could be not true. Could be an ill informed employee. It's sad, kinda, that when people make those claims they often can't cite a source because they'd out a friend and get laughed at for not citing a source. They're better off just not saying anything.
  11. Maybe. I just don't see them being that clever with this. I'm betting it's going away entirely and we'll find out tomorrow why. If it's not mentioned in their announcement tomorrow, then only (more) time will tell, really.
  12. ^ Wouldn't Winterfest be for this year? Don's tweet just a bit ago specifically said the announcement was "pertaining to 2017" https://twitter.com/DonHelbig/status/765966562360758272
  13. I wouldn't think a ride being closed to be revamped in any way would get an announcement of it "getting the axe" and that they can't say why yet. Why wouldn't they just say it's closing early because it's the off season isn't long enough to address maintenance needs or something similar?

The link you can click on works, but it's ugly I know
  15. ^ We've visited less this year than in years past due to personal/family schedules. KI's food service doesn't seem to be drastically different from years past.
  16. There's also a lot of folks on this site who would tell someone how wrong they were if they expressed their true opinion about a ride. It actually happens a lot here. For example... My wife had visible bruising from a ride. I mentioned it here and said that we found that particular seat to give a rough ride (we still ride it every visit, just not in that seat). I was told more than once how wrong I was, that particular ride is not rough at all and if I thought that was rough I should ride (or should have ridden) MEGAROUGHCOASTER-X. All I can say is that I saw the bruises that were NOT there before the ride and then I was told on this site that I was mistaken about the roughness of a ride that physically harmed my wife. That is an example of the commentary that has me considering no longer visiting this site, not specific people who post things some consider to be nonsense.
  17. Made it to the point yesterday, posted our experience in the trip report section: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/32330-cedar-point-814/ Only mentioning it here because I'd ask for and gotten some info before the trip in this thread.
  18. My first trip since I was a kid, everyone else's first ever visit (my wife, youngest stepson, wife's best friend and her daughter). Wife's BFF isn't much on coasters and headed straight to the beech near Wicked Twister. She had water, sand and a Starbucks in the nearby the hotel and was set. She wanted sun, but didn't really mind the overcast skies. First ride was Gatekeeper. We enjoyed the ride. Nothing about it was amazing, but a fun ride (our first wing coaster experience). Wicked Twister was interesting. I'm kind of a big guy and had to have help getting the belt on the restraint fastened...and unfastened (it jammed, somehow, when I pulled on the latch). Worth riding again if minimal wait. Corkscrew. I rode this for nostalgia and so the kids could experience it. This ride needs major maintenance or removal, IMO. For an advertised 20-30min wait (which seemed reasonable looking at the line), it took the two kids and me well over an hour because they were only running the red train, then added the white train (bonus, I'd never gotten a chance to watch a train transfer). Then had problems with the white train, then problems with the red train. Shortly after our ride, the ride was down (I did see it running again before we left, though). The ride experience felt very much like the Arrow I know best (Vortex). I'm glad my wife decided to sit this one out. We headed to the car for our cooler-packed lunch. I was told by the person handing out stamps that I had to have my hand stamped even if I had a platinum pass because it would only work on the first scan of the day. Why is this different at KI? I can come and go 20 times per day at KI with my pass. I don't care which way they decide, but it would be nice if CF was consistent about this sort of thing across their parks. Raptor. We waited just over 1hr for this ride and I wasn't impressed. I'm not saying it was a bad coaster, just that the wait wasn't worth it. My wife and her friend's daughter sat on the outside of the row and both complained of their head banging the restraint. My stepson and me in the middle seats didn't seem to experience this. Again would ride again if wait were minimal. Would be nice if the restraints were the style of Valravn, Banshee etc. Top Thrill Dragster was up and down more times that day than I can remember. After waiting in line for 45min (and an estimated hour remaining) the ride went down and we decided to venture elsewhere in the park and come back later (which never happened). Millennium Force Magnum XL (sorry, I originally wrote this prior to coffee reaching my brain). We sat in the last car, which probably was a bad idea. If we ride this again it will likely be further forward. The 'air time' on this ride would have been great, except the force of our legs against the restraints was borderline painful (my wife was showing the beginnings of bruises). I think this was due to the acceleration while still going uphill the last car experiences more than anything else. Will give it a shot elsewhere in the train if the wait is minimal. Valravn was worth the almost 2hr wait, but not sure it's worth another 2hr wait. Other than the first drop/dive - there's nothing about this ride that makes it worth waiting that long. We ended our day here. We were all tired and frustrated with the long waits and rides going down. I know I mentioned minimal wait times above and many folks might roll their eyes at that. By minimal, I tend to mean 20-30min, not walk on. Some rides, I know, are longer wait due to popularity, capacity, or both. Diamondback and Banshee, for example, I consider 40min 'minimal'. We tend to visit parks on less crowded days. My time in the park is limited and I view it as such especially after (and before) a 2hr drive. If the crowds make wait time such that I will only be able to experience 1/3 of the coasters a park has to offer, I'd rather go another day. I know this past weekend was one of the more crowded days for the park, it's just how our personal schedules worked out. The maintenance on the rides was a frustrating factor, as well. We will return, but hopefully on one of those days where the midway webcam shows 3 people walking around and not 3000.
  19. Maybe they're ahead of schedule. Maybe they ran into an issue on one part and diverted resources to another part while the issue is getting resolved. or... Maybe they planned it all along and are just now telling us.
  20. ^ It's not as featured as photoshop, but for simple things like that, check out GIMP. Tends to get the job done for me when I need to do something quick.
  21. Wasn't there something last year about CF adding 5 (maybe a different number) dark rides to their parks?
  22. I agree ^ I don't really like the idea of putting on a headset after 100+ others have sweat in it that day. Not to mention non-sweat crud that could be left behind.
  23. It is interesting that the Delirium ride CF is installing at Kings Dominion is a Mondial and not Huss despite, maybe because of, have (at least) two of the Huss rides already.
  24. Seems like anything with "GIANT" and "HUSS" should be avoided by parks. Has Delerium been a problem? It's a Huss Giant Frisbee...
