  1. Wow, I'm really surprised by that. In a positive way, I mean. Is that all rides at the park, or just coasters? If it's just coasters, much less surprising/impressive. It's purely anecdotal and not mathematically/statistically accurate data, I know, but I've not waited more than a few (<5) minutes to ride it in recent years. Almost never see a full train. Just seems like it's hardly ridden from observation on days I'm there.
  2. Rode slingshot with the youngest on a (sorta) dare Memorial Day weekend of this year. We got it when it was $10ea. The time it takes to get strapped in and the ride ready to launch combined with the time it takes from the ride ending to being lowered to the ground and let out are both pretty dull, except there's some decent views of the park up there. The ride itself? Was ok. I'd never experienced anything quite like it, not sorry I did it at all (not sure I'd do it again, but that's because of the cost). The launch was similar to a Drop Tower ride, except you're looking up and have little/no reference point for your brain to register the motion with. Then there's the up/down bouncy part after the launch that isn't overly dull, especially if you like feelings G's and lack thereof. It looks much more intense/intimidating from the ground than it actually is.
  3. I keep forgetting about Invertigo... I'm not considering the cost to keep Vortex running as very high, just the cost vs value it adds may be leaning against keeping it vs adding something with more appeal/draw.
  4. I should have said that I don't want Vortex to go, it just seems as far as coasters go it's the most likely candidate to me. I didn't get to ride Boo when it was fully functional, was 2yrs ago I rode it. Boo is probably the next ride to go, . I'd like to see something go in there to better tie it in with Planet Snoopy, I think. For a more general (non-kid-focused) dark ride, I think the TRTR building needs to have a use...maybe one of the dark rides CF mentioned putting in a slew of?
  5. By some, sure. Some of the hints/clues may imply that, sure. Perhaps I've missed it in this thread somewhere (gotta work, eat and sleep, after all), but have we seen anything that is clear-cut evidence that it's RMC? Footings and their design are indicators, but they're not hard evidence. If companies didn't evolve their designs over time...well, I like the Model T for what it is/was, but I'm glad designs have evolved.
  6. I love Vortex, but mainly for nostalgia purposes. I remember my first visit after it opened, I was just so happy to see something done with the space where the original Bat was, then to have that ride? For it's time, it was amazing. As much as I enjoy other rides more, I still make a point to ride it at least once on every visit. I'll be sad when it goes, but I think that's sooner rather than later. For the team gig folks...that would be a good spot, assuming there's enough real estate toward/beyond WindSeeker (or whatever that gigantic thing is called).
  7. Today I learned I've not been nice and I've been a grumpy sour puss. Oh well, been called worse by people who actually call me a friend. Yes, they most assuredly can get them. Share them, freely? I am no lawyer, but I believe they could with no legal repercussion. Key word: legal. There's a lot more in play than legality when it comes to how one company (don't be fooled, the press/media are companies) treats another company. Also, it's not just the relationship between the local new company and the park. The news company realizes this is not worth their time. It's not a ratings boost in any way. Only a small portion of their viewers would give more than 2 craps about it.
  8. Really don't know. Not sure what the historical trend has been. I know a few tech/games companies that used to file for marks months in advance, but recently have been waiting until weeks (sometimes a few days) before the announcement to file.
  9. It's possible. Not sure how that name fits in Rivertown in any way, though.
  10. I find it rather awkward to ask someone who is a stranger to me outside of this forum to do something on my behalf. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way. If someone here were to offer to go if someone were to provide the funds, I'm sure they'd have people take them up on it. They may, potentially, run into an ethical decision on whether it's ok to profit from doing so (they'd potentially get multiple requests, but only have to visit the office once). I feel it necessary to state that I am not soliciting for offers to go to city hall on my behalf. I'd like a copy of the plans, sure. I don't know how to read them, really, but think it could potentially be a cool thing to frame and hang on my office wall. However, I am a few weeks away from getting married and live 90+ minutes away from the KI area. There's no way I'd even be able to meet someone to get them for a month or more. Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. I'm thinking I want a copy of blue prints for my office to frame as well. I just think they look cool. If I go next week I'll send you a pm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks! ...and Thanks!
  11. I think a lot of people do understand that. However, The Beast DOES have some of the elements mentioned, just not in some areas. There are some dips before the turn to the covered section, which is ~200ft long (according to measure distance in google earth) of straight/flat track of, basically, nothing. The roof takes away (for me, anyway) the feeling of being out in the terrain. It feels more like I'm inside. That section actually detracts from the ride for me. It takes me out of the moment riding a roller coaster puts me in and leaves me just waiting to get to the next good bit. Frankly, that bit of "ride experience" is one I'd love to see changed. What I don't understand is how taking that <3% of the total ride and making it slightly different would change the soul of the entire ride. (Before someone tries, I'm not saying you could change any arbitrary 3% of the ride, or any ride, and not change the 'soul' of the ride). As I've said before, I don't think it needs updated. I love the ride. It's probably my favorite coaster ever (at least wooden). However, I'm in no way convinced it's perfect - nothing is perfect. Everything can be improved.
  12. Wouldn't that reference need to be public, as well? I mean, plans filed with a governmental body are usually in order to get permits to build. That body would need to be able to interpret the plans (including all of the references) in order to issue the permit. I reserve the right to be 1000000000% wrong on that. edit: sorry for the crappy edit job on the quote, was just trying to save space
  13. I'm seriously beginning to think I might forfeit the money I'd make in 1/2 a day to make the drive to get the plans just to share them with anybody who wants so the bickering will cease and we can get back to debating if a Rocky reference is to mountains or the fictional boxer and the city he's from.

  15. They're in the public record. On file at Mason City Hall.
  16. Not everybody lives in the area. The $15 is trivial, the lost pay for having to take time off to drive there isn't.
  17. I'm a fan of back row on DB, but REALLY like front row at night. Will have check back row next time I get a chance.
  18. I've wondered the same thing. I don't doubt the validity of the plans we've seen, though. My guess is that, on this site especially, people are more sensitive to the park's desires and want to respect the park's supposed wishes. I say supposed because nobody from the park has (at least publicly, that I've seen) requested that the information that is public record not be disseminated. That mindset seems to be prominent on KIC. There's nothing wrong with that mindset. Unless Mason prohibits publishing plans obtained through their office, I see nothing 'wrong' with doing so outside of personal views on respect for the park and its management. Except I believe the person who runs Kings Island Expo is also a member here as I have seen pictures taken by said person appear here and on the KIE Facebook page simultaneously. I see no exception, really. What is posted on KIE (and not here) does not have to comply with KIC's terms or the 'culture' of these forums. If I ran a site (or podcast etc) focused on amusement parks (or even just one park) and I had access to the entirety of the plans, and it wasn't illegal to share them, I probably would. Would I do that here? No, because it's counter to the culture here.

  20. I have worked in the corporate offices of multiple companies in the Fortune 50...that is about the best buzzword mumbjo jumbo I think I have ever heard/read.
  21. This...seems a plausible connection , not too much of a leap. Yeah didn't think of that, either.
  22. While I love Rocky and references to Rocky, I'm not sure this is a clue for Project2017 as much as clever commentary on the photo itself. Please let me be wrong, though.
  23. It does, but that would be no reason to make a business decision to keep a ride that 'needs' to go (I'm not saying The Racer does, just that if it did nostalgia and personal connection from higher up people is a horrible way to make said decision)
  24. Looking at the plans, it looks like there's maybe two station houses in Zone 1A (I don't know exactly what I'm looking at). Would it be possible that one is load and another is unload (like Flight of Fear). Would that increase capacity at all? It seems like it might, but I really don't know. People COULD load a train faster if they didn't have to wait for someone to get out, I just don't know if the extra stop to unload actually increases capacity.
  25. I don't remember the exact figure but over 90% of the ride is the original wood. I'll see if its on KI site when I have time but probably won't be for a few days. And there are far older things out there still kicking. (Trying not to look at Terp...) I agree with both of those statements, honestly. Eventually, something will happen to the ride. Maybe it becomes a maintenance nightmare (doubtful after all these years) or its popularity declines to a point where the business decision based on its value to the park needs to be made. Why would its value diminish? Every new coaster in the park, especially wooden, competes for ridership with The Beast. The only way to not have this happen is to install subpar rides. Why would a park spend the money on a new coaster and intentionally not make it the best it could possibly be? I love the ride as it is, I just think a few changes to it could make it better. I'm not saying the changes I mentioned need to happen, really, or that I want them to happen just for the sake of happening, but if the ride eventually does need some sort of renovation (like a retrack), why not add a little more thrill? Disagreeing is fine, it would be a boring world if we all thought the same things.
