  1. Kings Island honestly probably has the one of the best collection of Vekoma coasters that aren't in Disney, and that isn't saying much. I like Firehawk but it's inferior in many ways to B&Ms and really don't like Invertigo or Flying Ace.

I just think everything until a few years ago has been consistently bad. Hated the SLC at KK, their loopers and regular boomerangs are ride once and regret it. Their family coasters are ok, and anything Disney is pretty good except apparently Space Mountain Mission 2.  I can stand rough or uncomfortable, but it isn't worth it for most Vekoma rides besides the credit.

However I'm very happy with the direction they are currently heading, looking very impressive and smooth with their new products and designs.

  2. Unless they can do something completely different from KD's Hurler, it would be better to just keep it as is because I've heard this one is actually bearable.

Honestly, I'd push for Carowinds to get a GCI or maybe a Premier Launch Coaster. I don't think they'd get anything ridiculous like Fury anytime soon or a B&M but a GCI around the size of MT or a Skyrocket 2 or custom Premier would be a good fit as they don't have a launch coaster.

  3. I think Holiday World has KI beat, Voyage being the coaster with the most airtime in the world, Raven has a lot, and Legend having a few moments.

And then you add the water coasters, Wildebeest literally floats you out of your seat many times and Mammoth has some good moments as well.

I would also think that CP also competes with Kings Island, Millennium has a few good ones, Maverick is Maverick, Valravn has 3 solid places with airtime with the drops and surprisingly good airtime hill, Blue Streak provides solid hills (unlike Racer tbh), Magnum literally invented the steel airtime machine, and with RMC Meanstreak, it's a whole other game.

  4. I hate to post a thread like this and I thank all of you who take their time to respond.

My family is currently planning to hit up Carowinds for the first time for a day over spring break, and this is my first year with CF Platinum Passes. We ordered our passes from Kings Island during the off season so we don't have them yet. Do I just have to wait till KI opens and get it from there similar to Six Flags before visiting any other park? Or is there another option?

I really want to ride Fury so hopefully there is another way.

    Thanks!

  5. Ugh... Now that my Platinum Pass is confirmed I'm super excited for opening day for KI and CP. Mystic Timbers is looking absolutely incredible...

Also super excited because my family will be going to Toronto over the summer and a certain park owned by CF resides there with a giga.

  6.

How about Invertigo for Hydra at Dorney?

Hey, Cedar Fair has screwed them over worse before  :P

You're going to leave them with two identical boomerangs? It would be worth trading Invertigo for Stinger just to get a cooler logo.

That's the point, it's Dorney Park

  7. One thing that really messes with me is how controlling was Paramount and RCCA to keep Werner Stengel, arguably the greatest roller coaster designer of all time, from making an absolutely incredible ride. Even if SoB was glossy smooth, it wouldn't be a truly great ride. It's got stats in aces, but it didn't do much at all.

Stengel designed both Superzaro: The Ride (Of Steel) and Millennium Force which both opened the same year as SoB, both of which are still absolutely loved today. So I believe he could've done a great job on designing a proper wooden hyper coaster.

He even did Colossos the next year at Heide Park which is 197 feet tall and is still considered a great coaster. Seriously, if only Intamin was the manufacturer we'd probably still have a great, airtime packed, wooden hyper coaster.

  8. I really really want to like Backlot but due to me being rather skinny, I just can't completely enjoy it. I love the launch and helix, but with very little padding in the seats, the rest of the ride is really uncomfortable since my spine is being nailed against a fiberglass seat. But I would never replace it in the near future, its a objectively really good coaster for families.

  9. I completely forgot this coaster was going to be over 100 feet, had to check RCDB. It looks like it will be a top tier GCI and top tier wooden coaster in general. I'm not disappointed at all its not some massive "beast" of a ride but it's still formidable and will be a great step-up coaster

  10. I can not express to you how underrated that I think Sea World is as a park.  I'm in a little disagreement about your rating of Journey to Atlantis, as I think it really is a hidden gem in their lineup.  Also, did you have the opportunity to see One Ocean or Blue Horizons?  Truly remarkable experiences!

    Keep us posted!

I liked it a lot, but the dark ride section was lackluster and missing a decent amount of effects when I rode it.

I did not see Blue Horizons but I saw One Ocean and loved it to bits. Amazing show and such a cool way of showing off some amazing and gorgeous animals! SeaWorld's Orcas are such beautiful creatures.

  11. I'm going to go for the Platinum Pass as well. Mystic Timbers looks great and I am excited for my son's first visit to Cedar Point.

That's great! My first visit to Cedar Point was just me and my father as well. He hadn't been since Magnum opened so lots of nostalgia for him while tons being new.

  12. This sold me on purchasing both a Platinum Pass as well as a Six Flags Gold Pass come Christmas time. Having two new, albeit smaller coasters in the midwest is great and Mystic Timbers looks to be an amazing ride. Now if only RMC Mean Streak is opening next year... (I-Box Track on site, maybe...)

  13. Had an absolutely incredible time at SeaWorld today. Overall, an amazing park with great shows, a great atmosphere, and amazing rides. I loved this park way more than I thought I would and completely entertained the entire day. Lemme just give a quick grade to each ride.

    Manta: A
    Times Ridden: 4
Easily best flying coaster I've been on, tons of fun. Pretzel loop is super forceful and crazy in the back row, rest of the ride is tons of fun with the second half of the ride my favorite part. Coasting over the water with the fountains going off is awesome and flying so close through the rock work beats any near miss on a wing coaster.

    Journey To Atlantis: B/B-
Very fun water coaster, my first by Mack Rides. Was missing the hologram in the opening scene and a few other effects were down. Drop was fun and the final coaster section was surprisingly good.

    Kraken: B
    Times Ridden: 2
Easily my favorite floorless (only have ridden Rougarou). "Rattly", but to be honest, I don’t really care. Had zero head-banging, and the entire ride is tons of fun. Drop was underwhelming but the rest of the ride made up for it. Zero-G roll was great. Especially love the second half when it dives into the trenches and tunnels and that final corkscrew was awesome.

    Mako: A+
    Times Ridden: 7
What? This thing blew away my expectations, easily destroys my now second favorite B&M Hyper, Diamondback. It's extremely well paced and has very strong floater, even on the hill that has the trim. Second half is great with the overbanks, although it is a little slow. Best seat was definitely front, followed closely by the back for the insane airtime on the drop. The other seats are good but I would not rate it as high as I currently am if I only rode middle seats. Bottom line, probably top 5 coaster.

Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin: C-
    Times Ridden: 1
I was very disappointed in this ride. I didn't know exactly what to think except for a trackless dark ride with some real penguins in it. Was the longest wait of the day around 40 minutes when Mako was a walk-on and honestly I regret it. The trackless functionality is completely wasted and even the "wild" setting was extremely tame. It felt like I was in a warehouse with fake ice, and I know that is technically the case, I shouldn't feel like that. HPATFJ and Spiderman are some of my favorite rides of all time and honestly I would take them over many coasters, why couldn't this be like that? I got off this thinking, "Wait, that's it? That's the best they could do with this incredible technology?"

Overall amazing park where all my expectations minus Antarctica were blown away. Totally worth the visit, especially if you pair it with BGT. Manta and Mako jumped into my top 10 coasters currently, but I will have to see if that remains true after my trip to Busch Gardens on Tuesday.

  14. I'd say no, a B&M flyer is not complete without a pretzel loop, absolutely the main reason I enjoy Superman as much as I do. The back row is absolute insanity, it goes from ridiculous airtime to crushing forces at the bottom. I'm heading down to Sea World and BGT so I'll be experiencing a much more complete flying coaster.
