  1. Greetings everyone, haven't posted on this site in quite a while, but I'm back now because I'm planning a trip to Kings Island and Cedar Point trip this year during the first full week of June. I visited these two parks for the first time in 2015 and I'm thrilled to be heading back, especially since the two parks will have added three new coasters by the time I get there. Just wanted to ask a few questions to make trip planning easier, and also wanted to share my trip schedule to make sure the plans sound feasible.

Monday: Fly from Minneapolis to Toledo (with a stop at O'Hare) in the morning, drive to Kings Island, spend rest of day there. (I'm flying into Toledo because I found a nice airfare on American Airlines that was a lot cheaper than flying into Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Columbus.)

Tuesday: Kings Island until 8 or 9pm, drive an hour or so northeast and spend the night somewhere.

Wednesday: Finish drive to Cedar Point in the morning and spend the rest of the day there.

    Thursday: Cedar Point all-day.

Friday: Cedar Point until mid-afternoon, then drive to Toledo and fly home.

    1) For lodging near Kings Island, I reserved a room at the Super 8 Mason near the park, but from what I've read after booking it, people have given it some very negative reviews. I already paid a non-refundable fee for the room, so is it really that bad? Personally, I'm not very high-maintenance when it comes to where I sleep. As long as I have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in, I'm good.

    2) Since I'm a Cedar Fair employee (I'm a ride operator at Valleyfair), I'll be getting free admission and free parking at both parks. To any KI or CP employees on here, I'm assuming no on this, but would my VF associate ID allow me in the park for early entry/early ride time? Any other CF employee perks I should be aware of?

    3) Since my visit three years ago was around the same time, I know what crowd levels to expect for the rides I've been on. How long should I expect to wait for the new rides like Mystic Timbers and Valravn, and what do you recommend as the best places to sit on those coasters?

    4) Any good restaurants near KI or CP that'll be open after the park closes?

    5) Anything else I should know that'll make the trip better?

    Any input is appreciated. :)

  2. I voted for a giga coaster because Kings Island already has a awesome wooden coaster in The Beast, and considering that the other Cedar Fair parks with B&M hypers have received gigas in the past few years, it seems likely that Kings Island will go the same route. I don't see them getting a new coaster until at least 2019 though.

  3. I'll be posting a full trip report after the trip is over, but here's my day so far:

-Banshee: Awesome ride! Rode it in the front row and it was plenty forceful. Definitely in my top 5.

-Bat: My first Arrow suspended coaster and it was pretty fun. Nice drop and smooth for the most part.

-Vortex: I thought I would hate this ride, but it was actually semi-decent. My favorite part was the double loop.

-WindSeeker: Slightly freaky even for a coaster enthusiast ;) . Provides some nice views though.

Currently in line for The Beast.

  4. Does anyone know if you're allowed to use a Platinum Pass at multiple parks in one day? On one of the days of my trip next week, I'd like to spend to a few hours at Kings Island in the morning, drive up to Sandusky in the afternoon, then spend a few hours at Cedar Point in the evening. Is this possible, or would I have to choose park one or the other?

  5. Sorry that I didn't post this earlier, but I do have a platinum pass, although I may be a little late to rope drop based on my trip itinerary.

Also, I don't plan on riding the kiddie coasters because it's a waste of time in my opinion.

  6. If it helps, I will be spending a full day at the park. I plan on getting all of the credits as soon as possible, then rerides on the coasters I like the most (which I predict will be Beast, Diamondback, and Banshee).

  7. Thanks for all of the advice so far. I plan on posting a trip report after my to the park. Looking forward to it!

Also, I know this is a KI-based forum, but do any of you have any tips for Cedar Point (I'm also going there for the first time)?

  8. Greetings everyone, first time poster here. I live in Minnesota, and I will be visiting Kings Island for the first time on Tuesday, June 9th. I'm very excited to experience Kings Island, but I need some help in planning my day, so I have a few questions.

    1) How long should I expect the lines for the major rides to be? Would it be worth purchasing Fast Lane/Fast Lane Plus for my day, or should I save that money for Cedar Point (going there after Kings Island)?

    2) In what order should I ride everything?

    3) Any specific seating recommendations on the coasters for the best/smoothest rides.

    4) How many hours will I need to conquer the park if I don't get FL/FL+?

    5) Anything else I should know about Kings Island?

    Any input is appreciated.
