The savings is not as significant as you might think, Canadas Wonderland charges 13% tax.  Kings Island would not charge tax on the purchase.  You still save some money but its like 10-15% depending on current exchange rate.

The difference ended up being a $244 savings. I'll take it!

  2. Hello,

I just want to make sure this is still a thing. I have a Platinum Pass that I've had for years, home park of KI. I can add a Platnium Fast Lane to it through Canada's Wonderland's website, still use it at all parks, and save a significant amount due to the exchange rate - correct?

Your guess is as good as mine, seeing as the traditional nomenclature is sticking around for 2023, at least at select parks.  See MI Adventure with standard (Silver) Season Pass and Platinum Pass.

Passholders should know by now that Gold is a certain feature set for the home park, and Platinum is for the entire chain.

But then this is the same company that puts out merchandise that doesn't use the park's IP (e.g. some random font on a shirt instead of a ride or park logo)...  Sometimes I wonder.

Yeah, looks like all the parks actually - or at least Cedar Point, KI and Carowinds so far. All three have Terms & Conditions page that link to 2023 T&C for Gold, Platinum, Prestige and Prestige+ passes.

Oh! I misunderstood. You're absolutely right. Perhaps that's the thing I'm not taking into account here when expecting how many of these things will sell.

Yeah, I personally don't think it's worth it. If you're a Gold member, it's 2x the price to upgrade to the Gold version of Prestige. Same for Platinum. I think if you're the type that goes 3-4 times a week I could see the benefit, with the greater discounts, bring a friend passes and the front of the line (not Fast Lane, but front of the line - is there going to be a THIRD queue at every ride?) pass. But for the average passholder who goes maybe 3-5 times a season? I don't think it's worth paying double the price.

As someone who has bought a Platinum pass almost every year since 2008... the base Prestige pass is catching my attention. Having Preferred parking included with the pass, especially if that's at every CF park, would absolutely make the upcharge from Platinum pay for itself if I visit as often as I have this year.

What wouldn't work for me, and I suspicion that this will be a problem, is that the price point for it is low at $23/month. I don't think that's too distant from the price of a Gold or Platinum pass with other extras (e.g. dining) added in, and I feel like the park currently sells more dining plans currently than its infrastructure and staffing can manage. I expect to see the Preferred lot full regularly and the Fast Lane queues only busier next year. Add in that I haven't made a CP trip this year, and this might actually convince me to just get a Gold pass and visit less. In the worst case scenario, these things selling like hotcakes is going to make me not want to visit as often or even have a pass in 2024.

I don't say this to have a meltdown; I'm just sharing some fears that I don't fully trust the park to assuage. Kinda hoping for a limit on the number of these things available for sale...

You actually would lose benefits going from Platinum to the base Prestige. The base Prestige doesn't let you into the other parks - that's Prestige+ which is $400 (2x the price of Platinum).

Nope, still for sale on several of their sites (including CW).  It's under 2021 Season Passes in the ticket window pop up.

I see Carowinds has their season Fast Lane pass for sale, but the All Park Fast Lane pass I'm not seeing on any CF website.

All Park Season Fast Lane on sale now if know you anyone that wants it.  For example: It's on Canada's Wonderland page and app right now if you want to save a few bucks.

Looks like I missed it! :(

Could be. We were there 11:40am - 2:55pm. I mentioned your comment to my wife. She mentioned she saw 2 people walking around without wearing their mask right. She said one woman was doing the, "I have my mask down while I walk around while I sip on my bottle of soda" thing. But she also mentioned an employee saw her and started following her. I dunno. We were not trying to count vigilante actions, that's true.

Yeah, we didn't get there until around 4:30, and were only there an hour. It definitely could be a thing where compliance waned later in the day, in that case.

That's interesting. We went today, and were very impressed. In the lines most folks were certainly trying to social distance. And yeah that included Diamondback. The Orion line in particular was crazy stretched out when we were in line. I don't recall seeing a single person "walking around" without a mask, but it sounds like you were spending quite a bit of your time counting them. I saw people sitting eating/drinking/chilling without them, but not walking around. We felt extremely safe in the environment. I think it just varies on each guest's paranoia level. And I'm not saying paranoia right now is a bad thing, but it is still a thing. We had a great day, and thought guest "protocol-following" was "high"!

I didn't think it was very busy today either. A modest crowd.

Maybe we were there at different times. Definitely had different experiences, from the sound of it, and it wasn't paranoia, for sure.

Just got back from hershey and dorney.  Masks were decent at hershey bust there was a lack of social distancing at both.  You had to be vocal.  no one seems to care

We thought about doing Dorney this weekend. Glad we didn't now.

  11. Went to the park earlier. Figured even with escalating numbers, based on my last visit in early July I'd still feel great about it.

    Nope.

Park was actually fairly busy, based on this new environment, which is good for the park. But enforcement of the covid protocols was non-existent. Diamondback queue looked exactly as if everything were normal - ZERO social distancing, everyone piled in right next to one another. I counted at least 25 people walking around with no mask on at all, and numerous employees that walked right by them without saying a word. If I had to count the number of people with masks below their nose, that number would've multiplied by 5.

Going back tomorrow because we're in town anyway and because hopefully Monday + bad weather = better compliance/less people...but this was a really bad look. We ended up just eating dinner with the meal plan (yay Pub Burger) and just leaving shortly after. Zero rides.

  12. I think the fact that there's virtually zero known outbreaks at amusement parks - not just in Kings Island, but Cedar Point, Disney, etc - is a real testament to the safety precautions put in place. I think we're going back to the park on Sunday/Monday - one last hurrah before my wife has to go back to work (school) in 10 days.

So, just got back yesterday. It was a good trip. Got two rides on Orion -- one of them front row, which was fantastic. Wish the park had been open later, as we felt we were cramming everything in that we could and it still wasn't enough time. But this was obviously a weird year, and I'm thankful they were open at all. Crowds were very light on Monday (we got cleared out by a rainstorm right around 6:30), but pretty busy on Tuesday, at least compared to the first day. Still, I think my longest wait was FoF at about 45 minutes, although the app was showing an hour for Diamondback (the one ride I didn't get to).

I was extremely impressed by how seriously Kings Island was taking masks and social distancing, but also how it didn't really detract from having a good time. We were moved so quickly through the temperature check. Hand-sanitizer was available everywhere. The staff would politely but firmly ask people to pull their masks up if they were being worn incorrectly, and I thought the social distancing in queues and on rides was appropriate. What amazed me is that I know the staff likely had to train on this really quickly, but they had it down pat. The Beast was the one that impressed me the most -- they were able to dismiss rows, wipe down the train, and then let a new group on so quickly. I never felt like we waited too long for anything because of the cleaning procedures; in fact, if the lines looked long at all, it was mostly due to people spreading out in line.

The one exception was FoF. We felt pretty crowded in that queue, although there were periodic announcements to remember to social distance and properly wear masks.

As others have said, the park guests' adherence to it was the biggest concern. But for the most part, especially on the first day, I'd say 85-90% of the people had masks on and were spreading out. If masks were off, it was usually when people were on a bench far from anyone else and seemed to be taking a break in the heat. If you shot someone a look because their mask was down, they often caught the look and pulled it up. I think most people were also observing the social distancing in the lines. If people were breaking the rule, it was often younger people who probably think they're immune to it, but I think park officials caught the majority of them. I rode White Water Canyon with my 8-year-old son and we were told we were allowed to take our masks off on the ride; I was really grateful for the ride operator who reminded my son to pull his mask back on as soon as we got off the ride.

Really, Kings Island did a fantastic job in the midst of an awful situation. I imagine they might be losing money just by being open, so I really wanted to take the time to acknowledge how good they did. I felt safer there than I did going into most stores or restaurants by my home.

What were your wait times like on Tuesday?

Yeah I’m no longer going Anywhere due to stupid face mask and distancing policies on a fabricated number death virus.

Good. Stay home. You can use the extra time to research covid-19 since you appear to know absolutely nothing about it whatsoever.

We just left, and I was extremely disappointed in the mask usage and social distancing. I would say at least 30% of the visitors walking around had their mask completely off or around their chin/neck, and even more not over their nose. Social distancing in lines was next to nonexistent. When you got closer to the ride itself, employees would remind people about masks, but I never saw corrections in social distancing, nor did I see anyone correct incorrect mask usage in the park itself. In fact, I witnessed numerous times when people had their masks completely off (not even eating or drinking) and an employee walked by without saying anything. I was thankful we had fastpasses (we were kind of forced to use them from the Presidents’ Day sale or lose $160-I emailed: no refunds, no extensions which I understand but sucked) and that we could get through rides quickly and get out of there. I hope none of this relaxing of the rules comes at a price, but something needs to change. I did not feel safe.

Thanks for posting this. We were there twice this year (July 2-3) and I've been considering squeezing out one more trip. This made the decision for me - I won't be returning to the park during the pandemic knowing that they've relaxed the enforcement of their guidelines.

Unfortunately this really divides us into corners. Be they political or otherwise. I work at an Elementary School, which is part of a larger amazing school corporation. Many here at KI Central and elsewhere want to quote the health experts and "science". Yet when the American Association of Pediatrics and Dr. Fauci himself says schools should be open with exception for super hotspots...people don't want to hear that science. They don't want to hear that health expert advice. Turn it off! Suddenly they talk about how America is failing schools. They hear what they want to hear. I admit I do too. We all do. We're all guilty of it.

My wife works with special education students at a local elementary school. My father - 62 years old - is in the school's IT department. They want to work. I think they should be working. Kids need school, etc.

the problem is, despite what Fauci, the CDC, the AAP and every other expert says, there are ZERO mandates on a federal - or in many instances, even a state level - for reopening schools. The result is a hodge-podge mess of schools making their own policies, many of which fall woefully short of even the minimum CDC recommendations. As of now, our school system isn't even requiring masks...which is borderline negligence.

Yes, we should reopen schools...by doing every single thing possible to keep our students and staff as safe as possible. Problem is the latter part of that statement simply isn't happening.
