  1. If you don’t want your Christmas presents to be spoiled before Christmas morning, don’t peak.
  2. I don't understand the talk of Fury fizzling out at the end. Yes, the helix is boring, but it leads into two awesome ejector airtime hills before the brake run. I think it ends with a bang, personally.
  3. Can somebody provide an example of what a dive loop is? I’ve seen it mentioned several times as a possibility here.
  4. I second this. I've not ridden nearly as many coasters as most enthusiasts but was fortunate enough to make a trip to the Carolinas last summer for the sole purpose of riding Fury. Every time I rode it I grew to appreciate it even more for the several instances you're talking about where you feel like you're going to be throw off the side of the train on those quick twists and turns. It's what separated it from MF for me.
  5. Regarding height, taller doesn't always equal better. My giga experience is limited to Fury and MF, but I would say without a doubt (in my opinion, of course) that MF has the better first drop despite being the shorter coaster. From the back you just get whipped over that hill, whereas on Fury, you slow down just before cresting the hill and it doesn't have that same feel. The rest of Fury's layout is superior to MF, and I realize that Fury's height and slightly steeper drop give it more speed to navigate said layout, but the drop itself is inferior to MF's. All this is to say that, even if KI's giga doesn't break the height (or drop height) record, don't count it out so quickly.
  6. I disagree with this, and this is coming from somebody who would rather go to CP than KI. I'd probably put DB and MT just outside my top five if they were at CP. I'm not a big invert guy so I could take or leave Banshee and Raptor. I have to disagree with this as well. Maybe based on legacy, but the actual ride experience is underwhelming to me. A night ride is really cool, but the last time I rode it during the day, I was kinda bored to be honest. I'm not trying to slam The Beast, just sharing my personal opinion. How much would The Beast experience be diminished if it was at CP rather than running through the woods at KI?
  7. To be fair, Diamondback and Mystic Timbers are just behind Banshee, giving KI 3 coasters in the top 25.
  8. If they're going for a theme that indicates reaching for the stars, it would be a bit of a letdown if that didn't include the height record for a giga. Put me on record, however, as saying I'll be thrilled with any sort of giga even if it doesn't break all the records. Give me a massive drop and some airtime, and I'm all set. I live in Indy, so a giga only being two hours away would be phenomenal. Also, on the topic of color scheme, I can't believe on this Ohio-based website that I haven't seen any Maize and Blue color suggestions. Allow me to be the first
  9. Yeah I checked the app for that very thing. It would be really helpful. We didn't want to venture too far just looking for an open restaurant when we wanted to get a few last rides in.
  10. That's good to know. I didn't see any info like that posted anywhere.
  11. I should add, Chick Fil A was the only place we could find after 7 that hadn't closed (with 8 PM closing). We weren't really hungry but wanted to get one more meal in since it was paid for. Thank you CFA for staying open!
  12. On Wednesday my wife and I made the trip from Indy for a day at Kings Island. I took advantage of the first responders week free admission and we got a ticket for her that included parking and a drink wristband all for $40. We hoped that going on a weekday in May would pay off with low crowds, and it certainly did. We didn't wait any longer than 10 minutes for any ride, and even then it was usually because we waited for a specific row when there were several empty rows in the middle. Rather than go chronologically I'll just do some bullet point highlights/lowlights from the day. - This was my third visit to KI overall, and first since opening day last year. I only went then because I won tickets. We didn't get to ride much then but we did get to ride The Beast at night for the first time. Unfortunately there would be no night rides this time because of the 8 PM closing time. - We were there at opening and went to Diamondback first. Unfortunately for the early entry folks, it was only just testing as we approached. We were on the third train of the day and went right back around for a second ride. We ended up getting double digit rides here throughout the day, including 3 in a row in the last ten minutes before closing. This is my favorite coaster in the park, especially from back row. - On opening day last year we waited a combined 4.5 hours for two rides on Mystic Timbers. Combine that with the shed thing being waaaay overhyped, and it was hard to fairly judge this ride. This year, we got double digit rides on it, and it was fantastic. We rode several times in both back and front and loved both. I was pleasantly surprised at all the airtime you get in front. The first drop is better from back though. This ride never lets up and feels so fast. This is easily my #2 in the park now. - I was a bit let down by some of the other coasters I've enjoyed before. Banshee and The Beast were somewhat underwhelming to me. The Beast has a great setting in the woods but after the first drop and hill after that it was kinda boring until the double helix. I wish I could've ridden at night again. Banshee has a lot of force but that's not what I really enjoy in a coaster. The roll towards the end was much better from toward the back than from the front. - I had a first ever coaster experience--I rode Vortex by myself, and I mean literally. I remembered it being pretty rough from a few years ago. I asked the ride op which seat was best and he said front. He didn't seem confident at all but I still went up there. It was so quiet that it felt like I was in a POV video. It wasn't terribly rough in front but was also kinda boring. - I skipped Firehawk and FoF because I didn't really enjoy either one when I rode them previously. - Racer would be a great coaster if it wasn't so rough. I love all the airtime hills but after just a couple of them I felt like I needed cervical and lumbar decompression. It was really unpleasant. - I rode Backlot Stunt Coaster for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't realize it launched at the start. It had one really good airtime moment and I did not expect the dark area to last so long. I would definitely ride this again. - I went up the Eiffel Tower for the first time because we had so much time. I wish it had been a clearer day but it was still a great view all around. Overall this was my best amusement park experience when considering the value we got for admission, parking, drinks and the all-day meal plan, and how much we were able to ride. I was bummed that I didn't enjoy some rides as much as I had on previous visits and that we wouldn't get a night ride, but at the same time I was glad it enabled us to just ride DB and MT over and over again, especially since they're right next to each other.
  13. I believe it was around 4, so you do have a valid point about it being a slow period.
  14. Wednesday was fantastic. Got in double digit rides on Diamondback and Mystic Timbers. We had the all-day meal plan so we were able to eat a bunch while also getting in as much riding as we wanted and more.
  15. I had the pulled pork sandwich at Coney and was disappointed. It was really crumbly and dry. I do like Sweet Baby Ray's though. I've seen many here who apparently don't so I had that going for me. The mac and cheese was pretty good.
  16. I was there Wednesday with the all-day dining plan and sampled many of the park's offerings. My wife and I shared the one plan and split every meal, which was more than enough food for the two of us. The first place we ate was Juke Box. We had the bacon double cheeseburger with fries. This was one of the best meals we had all day. It was early and so everything was very fresh. The burger was substantial and the fries were very good. We had La Rosa's, and that was ok. The pizza is better at Sam's Club but it wasn't too bad. We'd never had it before, in or out of the park. Skyline was delicious. At least the 3-way was. The fries were too salty and had been sitting out for awhile. Unfortunately they did not let us sub a cheese coney for the fries. Panda Express was ok. It was very fresh but still had decent flavor. They were the only place that insisted we could only get a small cup on the drink plan (wristband) instead of the 20 oz cups everybody else was giving us at restaurants and drink stands. It was definitely noteable the amount of restaurants, food stands and drink stands that were closed. I understand it due to low attendance, but it is frustrating when you want a drink and either have to stand in food lines or walk a longer distance to find something that's open. Reds and Hank's were both closed all day. I wasn't planning on eating at either anyway, but I found that interesting. Overall, over 6 total meals split between my wife on the all-day plan, we calculated a cost of $2.50 per person per meal. For that value, it was great!
  17. I completely agree on the Freestyles, and not just for an amusement park, but even at normal restaurants. If a restaurant is busy and there's only one (which is typical), it can make for a pretty long line. Plus there's usually not that much room for a long line at the machine.
  18. I was extremely excited for the Indy combo deal! My wife and I were initially talking about going and had a couple possible days picked out. Then I found out one of those days would be free for me as a paramedic. Then we discovered the Indy deal but they were all sold out at Kroger. Then I saw that it was available online! I wasn't thrilled about the extra 5.99 in processing fee, but it's still an incredible deal with parking and drinks included! We threw on an all-day meal plan that we'll share and can't wait to go Wednesday. Now if the weather would cooperate...
  19. Several weeks ago I won two tickets on Twitter for Opening Day. I never would have chosen opening day if I was buying tickets but was of course excited for the chance to go for free. We are not season passholders but we showed up plenty early to make sure we were in the best position to hop in line right behind all the early entry folks. This was only my second trip to KI and it's been two years since my first. We decided it was probably best to head straight to Mystic Timbers first because the the line would just keep growing throughout the day. That didn't turn out the be the case, but we're still glad we went here first. More on that later. The app said the wait was 3 hours, and that turned out to be pretty accurate. From the time they dropped the ropes for us non-early entry folks at 10 to the time we were exiting the ride was almost exactly 3 hours. The ride itself was fantastic. It reminded me of Maverick a little bit in that it's got a great, intense first drop followed by nonstop action. I loved all the airtime and the tunnel was fun. We sat somewhat towards the back but weren't picky with where we sat due to the waits. I won't spoil anything about The Shed here but let's just say we were quite underwhelmed. By the time we were leaving MT it was already 1 PM. We were hungry but saw that Diamondback's queue wasn't too bad so we jumped in (not literally as that's prohibited). The wait wasn't bad at all, maybe 30 minutes from queue to exit. I was pleasantly surprised because I figured the waits on every big ride would be awful. We rode DB very back row and it was fantastic as always. The first drop is unreal. After DB we walked back to our car for lunch and some much needed time off our feet. Upon re-entry we headed to Banshee. We didn't mind having a longer wait because we wanted our food to settle a bit. The wait for Banshee was probably 45 minutes or so. It is a really fun ride. I don't remember the g-force being as intense as it was yesterday when I rode it two years ago. We rode back row there as well. We wanted to ride Invertigo but it had been in and out of operation all day and the wait was usually around 45 minutes when we looked so we decided to pass. We saw The Racer only had a 15 minute wait so we headed there. Both trains were running so it was going quickly. We went on Blue towards the back. I really enjoyed this one as it's got some good drops. My wife wasn't a fan because it's pretty rough and she probably won't ever ride it again. Next it was back to Diamondback. We rode the back car but the inside seats this time, and it was an even better ride than our first. The wait took probably an hour because it shut down for 15 minutes or so while we were in line. Diamondback is still my favorite ride in the park. We headed back out for a dinner break next and debated whether we wanted to go back to DB or given MT another try if the wait wasn't horrible. While I really enjoyed the ride itself my wife was having a hard time separating the ride from how underwhelmed she was by The Shed so she was intrigued to ride it again. We decided 90 minutes was the most we'd want to wait for MT. When we got back in MT showed a 2 hour wait time so we went toward DB. After a pit stop we saw MT was down to 90 minutes so we went for it. The line at that time only backed up to the Whitewater Canyon entrance. It ended up taking 2 hours because they shut down for a short time but it was so worth it. It allowed enough time for it to get completely dark by the time we got to ride. We had been planning all along to ride The Beast at the end of the night because we didn't time it right two years ago to get a true dark night ride last time, but we lucked out and ended up being able to ride MT and The Beast back to back in the dark. Both were fantastic! As far as a night ride The Beast probably wins just because there's more time spent out in the woods and more tunnel where it's pitch black, but MT was great as well. It felt so fast. Overall the day exceeded my expectations. When we were there two years ago it was a weekday and crowds were really light, so I was dreading the opening day crowd and long waits. I was really pleased though that we were able to ride DB and MT twice, and Banshee and Beast once. I didn't leave feeling like I'd missed something I wanted to do. MT is a great addition to the park and will only add to my excitement the next time I get to visit Kings Island.
  20. I loved this ride. The theme is fun, but I'm not one to really care much about that if the ride itself is worth it. The first part that really surprised me about MT was the first drop. I was really taken aback at how intense it was, and then the next drop after was also really fun. It truly is a nonstop ride from start to finish. It actually reminded me of Maverick (aside from the nonstop part) because of all the quick turns and changes in direction. That could be because I don't really have much wooden coaster experience to compare it to. Our night ride was even better. The atmosphere on a ride like that in the dark in the woods is so fun and eerie, like The Beast has been known for. It felt so much faster than 53 MPH, too. After waiting 3 hours for our first ride (we went right there at opening Saturday) we figured we would be done, but we were so glad we gave it another shot. We were extremely underwhelmed by The Shed the first go 'round, but realized that we could ride it again without thinking The Shed would add anything to the ride and that really helped make the second ride better. The Shed is fine for what it is but was definitely over-hyped in the marketing for the coaster. I'm sure it will help attract people to the ride and that's great, because the ride is fantastic with or without it.
  21. Personally, if the shed burned down tomorrow and the rest of the ride was in tact it wouldn't make MT any less appealing. It added nothing to the ride for me.
  22. Does anybody know what the app is that you can download to get a free Coke in the Diamondback queue? It's on the Coke machines in the queue but I can't read the name.
  23. Diamondback is a great night ride. It's just really dark throughout because there aren't any lights around the right through most of it. WindSeeker was great at night at Cedar Point because of the views (and also kind of creepy with the void that is usually the lake at night). I can only imagine it's great here too. Banshee was somewhat disappointing at night. I feel like more could be done throughout the ride itself, and not just in the queue/station, to make it more creepy at night considering the theme.
  24. 1. Diamondback (back row) 2. Beast 3. Banshee 4. Invertigo 5. Vortex (rough but a fun layout) 6. Racer 7. Firehawk 8. Flight of Fear 9. The Bat I went back and forth between Beast and Banshee, they're extremely close. I haven't ridden Backlot Stunt Coaster or Adventure Express.
