  1. I would like green but usually prefer a darker green. It might be neat for the track to change color based on its height if it's a Giga.
  2. I'm curious to see what the KICentral community would like to see in a revamped Action Theater given the Mass Effect and Plants vs. Zombies rides. First if given the choice between Mass Effect or Plants vs. Zombies which would you rather have? Second, if Cedar Fair and EA are making each ride unique which EA property would you like to see? Would you put this choice over Mass Effect and/or Plants vs. Zombies? Third, given a choice of any feasible game franchise which would be your dream ride? Keep in mind Nintendo has a deal with Universal and Warner Brothers properties would likely be in Six Flags domain. Some popular EA franchises to jog the memory (in no particular order) - Crysis Mirrors Edge Wing Commander Command and Conquer (most notably the Tiberium and Red Alert entries) Dragon Age Spore Titanfall Dead Space
  3. I hope they bring the Action Theater back soon like Carrowinds and California's Great America.
  4. I would say it's biggest loss of scenery is the trees that use to surround it. Doesn't feel so isolated anymore with Banshee and Flight of Fear by it. I mostly remember the tunnels being the theme to it with the last lift as the exception having the drums and all. Having been on it Friday the final lift is in really bad shape, a lot of the material that makes the rock look is falling down. I don't recall the new lights, will have to pay more attention next time.
  5. I would say the Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal. Would have been awesome if they simply could have moved it, perhaps by White Water Canyon, not that it would help it much this year. On the note of Boo Blasters I hope that it is what gets removed when/if we get a Triotech. I'd rather save the old Crypt space for another flat ride, log flume or terrain coaster.
  6. Cedar Fair is to blame for that. Phantom Theater was removed by Paramount and replaced with a Scooby Doo theme. Paramount changed the ride every ten years since it first opened*. And while the Scooby Doo theme wasn't nearly as cheap as Boo Blasters it was cheap in comparison to Phantom Theater. As far as the degradation of Phantom Theater goes stuff broke on it all the time. *Edit to clarify I mean it was changed every ten years up until the end of the Paramount era. I'm not sure if Boo Blasters lines up with that timeline or not but I don't really consider it a new ride from the old Scooby Doo one.
  7. Good to know, I always get them confused so I usually just call it the Chicago Six Flags. I suppose for those who aren't familiar with Cedar Fair parks Kings Island and Kings Dominion might be confused.
  8. Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Great Adventure would have the same acronym I guess. Although its technically Six Flags Great Adventure and Safari, so SFGAS might be more accurate.
  9. When I renewed my pass last year I was upgraded to a gold pass that started working immediately. My brother renewed his (which was pretty old) but had to get a new one as well. He could only use the old one last year and is supposed to use the new one this year. I hope this doesn't cause him any issues tomorrow. Ill tell him to bring both just in case. Also I put mine in the app and it says it's a 2015 pass with dining. I didn't have dining last year, is this an error or does it usually list the year it was activated? It does say gold pass which I didn't have last year either so I hope my pass doesn't have any issues.
  10. electricsun - Haven't been to a KOA in ages but I always remember most of them being very nice. Since I'm not doing the usual week long camping trip this year I may have to get it in on these trips. I always worry about the cheaper hotels too as they always have some horrible reviews. I plan on packing very light so I'll only need the tent for actual sleeping. I don't know how I missed the perks when checking out Hersheypark camping, the extra cost is probably worth it for them alone. jtro223 - That sounds good and around what I would expect for a Best Western. The one across from Universal was in the $80 range in the middle of summer last year so hopefully they don't go up too much. I think the day of the week had a lot of it too. And Stormchaser is the main reason I'm considering Kentucky Kingdom. I don't mind water parks but my brother doesn't like them, he'll have to suck that up for Holiday World though. Steph88 - That's the kind of planning I like and would probably prefer those months as well but King Kong and Hulk won't be done till summer. The sun and heat never really bothered me before. My family on the other hand, well that's why they changed their minds on Florida and decided to go to Norris Lake instead. Thanks for the info everyone.
  11. Hey everyone! I've been planning on doing a series of road trips this year and would appreciate any advice. All the trips will be during the week (generally Monday through Thursday, mainly on Tuesday and Wednesday though) since that is when my "weekends" are. I usually work a night shift (starting around 4pm) which allows me time to drive home on a work day for some of the closer parks. Only my brother will be with me on most of the trips so a single hotel room or tent camping (if there are decent savings) are fine. I'm hoping to limit the days needed off, most of these trips will need a day or two at most. We will both have Platinum Passes for Cedar Fair parks with dining and all year drink cups. The first planned trip is to Holiday World on May 18th. I may try to do it all in one day since their hours are 10:30 till 6 and the drive is only 3 hours or stay one night the day before and drive home after they close. As one of the few parks open weekdays in May I want to try and keep it that month. The second trip is to Six Flags Great America (Chicago) on May 24th and/or 25th. I bought a pass for here (wasn't able to get it processed last year though) although my brother won't have one. Like Holiday World I may go ahead and head home on the 25th (5 hour drive) since they are also 10:30 to 6 on these days. If that is the case I will only need a hotel one night. This is the only other park I'm planning on going to that is also open in May (save KI and CP.) If I get an early enough start I may have a partial day on top of the full one. Trip 3 is already planned out as a mini vacation that will have my Dad and Uncle along as well. We will head up to Cedar Point on May 31st and leave on June 2nd. This will give us one and a half days at the park. My Dad has already made the reservations for the Breakers Express so this one is set in stone. We did the same thing last year (right after Memorial day weekend) and it worked out very well, longest line (without a breakdown) was about 15 min for Millennium Force. Rode just about every coaster multiple times even with the bad weather. All the remaining trips don't have any specific dates and will be during June, July (avoiding the 4th) and the first couple weeks in August. My Dads main vacation is the 3rd week in August to Norris Lake which will include a trip to Gatlinburg and a stop at Dollywood. I will want to try and keep the trips to every other week so I don't miss too much work in too short a time period. Trip A - Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg (4 days, 2 off) An 8 hour drive to Kings Dominion with the remaining day at the park. The next full day at Kings Dominion and then Busch Gardens the next. 4th day the drive home. Trip B - Dorney Park and Hershey Park (3 days, 1 off) Another 8 hour ish trip with only a half day at Dorney then a full day at Hershey Park. Would like to spend more time at Dorney Park but I need to limit my days off. Hershey's hotels and campground are rather pricey. Trip C - Universal Studios and Busch Gardens Tampa This is the only trip I'm planning as an actual vacation with two or three days for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure and another for Busch Gardens. I'll fly down and depending on the times of the flight go to the park the same day. I was thinking of using public transport to go to a Best Western that is directly across the street from Universal Resorts but I will look into vacation packages as well (Costco, possibly AAA) and may stay at the resort. I'll probably rent a car for the trip to Tampa and come back to Orlando the same day. Trip D - Carrowinds (3 Days, 1 off) Another 8 hour ish drive for one and a half days at Carrowinds with a day off for the trip home. If it's possible I may try to make trips out to Kennywood (4 hour drive) and Kentucky Kingdom. If time runs short I may have to cut off the trip to Carrowinds. It's the only trip with an 8+ hour drive and only one park so it would be the first to go. I've been to Universal, Kings Dominion (when they were teasing Volcano - The Blast Coaster!) and Cedar Point before but all the others are completely new to me. Any advice on dates, lodging, food etc. is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  12. I wish they would have given more notice, would have liked to experience both removals one more time. Was looking forward to them next year, just got back from a Caribbean vacation and its very unlikely I'll be able to go this year much less in the next week. Still excited for the new King Kong ride though.
  13. https://blog.universalorlando.com/whats-new/fast-furious-ride/ Fast & Furious being added for 2017 with Disaster and Beetlejuice being removed. Disaster will close Sept. 8 and Beetlejuice will close later this year.
  14. I'd guess Wilderness Survival, you have to sleep one night in your own shelter. Could be Order of the Arrow as well though.
  15. Gatekeeper was added in 2013, Rougarou refurb in 2015 and a new major coaster investment in 2016 (assuming leaks/rumors are somewhat accurate), seems like a crown jewel to me. The Hotel renovations, and sheer number they have, still positions it as a destination for travelers. Carrowinds is going to see a lot of investment over the next decade for sure, but I doubt they will start putting in a few hotels/campgrounds and making it a major tourist destination. I'm thinking it will be more on the Kings Island level catering mostly to the surrounding areas with a hotel/campground perhaps.
  16. There's plenty of fine flat space they could put some slides, they just have those pesky electrical lines in the way . I'm sure they could still fit in some though.
  17. I don't think actually being in the park adds much either, once stuff is closed what does it matter? The biggest problem with camping in the park is water access. I don't know if being in the picnic area helps with that or not. I camped there once as part of a BSA function and they had us by Adventure Express/Racer/Flight of Fear and it pretty much added up the same way you're saying, no usual camping activities and not very comfortable.
  18. That's a hilly area too and probably wouldn't be very good for expansion. Oktoberfest as it stands now doesn't have a lot of good areas to expand and its not very clearly defined either. I've always taken it as the area around the pond Viking Fury sits on, let me know if I'm wrong. Perhaps the garden/smoking area could be considered Oktoberfest and fit in a ride or two, moving the smoking area behind the Eiffel Tower. Something small (Scrambler small) might fit in the area by Viking Fury's entrance. The dining area behind Hank's Burrito Shack may be able to fit a ride while still maintaining enough tables. If they would move/remove some things a few more areas could open up. The Adventure Express exit area (former Enterprise area) could house a flat ride if they removed the Coke building and the rope climb. If Sling Shot was moved/removed that could fit a good sized flat. And there is a building next to Viking Fury that could fit a ride if removed. I don't remember what it is and nothing pops up on Google Maps. I doubt the park would want to remove stuff like that though. I've always thought one of those vine tunnels would fit in well with the Oktoberfest theme but I'm not sure where they could fit one, maybe next to the Festhouse? I've always thought opening the path under Diamondback and using the vine tunnel to hide any necessary catch nets under the ride would be neat. I think Oktoberfest would be a great fit for some classic flats (as would Coney Mall of course) and would love to see some put in there to bulk up that area of the park. Many of those pay attractions could easily fit elsewhere.
  19. I think its doing fine, it's a high capacity ride which leads to shorter wait times. Even with a full queue it only takes an hour to get on. And I've walked on every ride in the park at one point or another including Diamondback. Although Diamondback does seem to be the most popular ride in the park to me.
  20. Depends on the ride and when it was updated. Vortex has been a 10 min wait with 50 reported for me before. It's usually within 10 minutes thought. What times are you getting? Coming up in a little while.
  21. Are these working or static ones? I would be interested in working models. Pics would be great
  22. I would be interested so long as I'm open that weekend. But I'm new here too and don't know if that would matter.
