Isn't Richard Zimmerman the park president who, under one of the paramount ideations, basically tried to destroy old ki with many ride removals?

He was VP of Finance at Kings Island 1995-1998 and Assistant General Manager in 1998 before he was promoted to the GM position at KD later that year.

  2. Nice to see all the paintwork going in, and nice to finally get details about Pigpen’s Mess Hall. A little odd to me that they just talked about it and didn’t show off any renders, but maybe they are holding that off until later.

  3. I attended Dorney Park's Winter Chill Out yesterday and got to see Iron Menace in person.

I am very excited for this ride! As has been noted many times before, this is something very unique compared to Dorney's competition and will definitely allow them to stand out. It looks a lot taller in person, and the colors really pop. It is shocking that they were able to fit such a huge ride into a piece of property formerly occupied by a Vekoma Boomerang!

I am very excited to see the final thematic package for Iron Menace as well as for the surrounding Steel Yard land. The level of detail of what they have done so far is very impressive, especially for a park like Dorney. Kingdom Productions is doing the scenic fabrication; they did the fabrication/paintwork for Adventure Port last year. Everyone there seems very committed to the McTavish Steel backstory, and it's so awesome that the corporate XDS team developed this authentic, regional story to reflect in the park. I also have to note their Ghost in the Machine haunted maze, which we walked through with the lights on. I was absolutely blown away by it!

Everyone at Dorney is so excited for this ride. I got the chance to speak to both their Communications Director and their General Manager, and they were so enthusiastic about Iron Menace, Dorney Park, and hosting this event for the first time. It really seems like this project has injected so much new life into the park.

I attended Dorney twice in 2022, while I was completing an internship at Hersheypark, and thought it was very "meh." After yesterday, I walked away very impressed and excited for Dorney's future. I can't wait for Iron Menace to open and see where they go from here!

While I understand there was a certain budget for the 50th anniversary celebration knowing the world we live in, I will say I really wish the 50th anniversary parade was bigger like CP's 150 parade. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the floats' colors. I think just blue and gold with maybe some white in there would've been better. Also instead of stacks of presents, I would've probably done a big golden Eiffel Tower on one of the floats.

I honestly would've liked the 50th celebration better if it was more like Grand Carnivale. Like the King and Queen of Carnivale could be the "Golden King and Queen of KI" or something along those lines.

Also I think the bandstand show could've been better. While I liked the creativity of "Club KI", I think something more along the lines of the "Celebrate 150 Spectacular" show at CP would've been better. Also I wish they would've used the LED ribbon boards on the stage truss and maybe an LED lit up 50th anniversary logo (like CP 150 had on the celebration plaza stage).

Finally while Fun, Fireworks, and 50 was nearly perfect and is the best fireworks show KI has ever done imo, I think what would've made it perfect is if they had a Nickelodeon segment during the part where they did the Brady Bunch, Hanna Barbera, and Peanuts references. Like with the drones they could've made the Nick logo and played "Kickin it all over town" from the old Nick parade back in the day during the segment. Now I understand that it would've been expensive to do given licensing and all that, but honestly I feel like when they jumped from Hanna Barbera straight to Peanuts it really felt like something was missing and I would've loved to have seen a Nickelodeon segment thrown in there. Other than that FF&50 was a perfect show.

Lastly outside of the 50th anniversary year, I think it was a huge missed opportunity this past season to not do a Brady Bunch 50th anniversary reunion for the 50th anniversary of the Cincinnati Kids special being aired.

The logo that was used for the 50th was probably the biggest missed opportunity of all. It would have cost them nothing extra to use the vintage logo, and it would have gone a long ways towards restoring Kings Island's unique identity.

My daughter and I just stopped by today to visit.

Lawn area is nice but lots of head stones need help and fence is a mess.

Didn't there used to be a sign on the fence showing its name?

Looks like a prime Eagle Scout project to help make it look much nicer.

So is the property owned by Kings Island?

    Who maintains it?

Sad to hear of its recent neglect. To answer your question, it is maintained by the Deerfield Township Trustees.

At KI you get a VIP lounge. Busch Gardens Tampa quietly removed theirs:

Apparently, this used to be a nice sit-down restaurant. It's such a beautiful building with a great overlook over the safari area. What a waste to use it as just a (former) passholder lounge and a (terrible) counter-service pizza place.

With the transition to X, the post view counter has been very helpful for the public to see that analytic. Unfortunately, any post (or tweet) made before analytics were made visible do not have it to be seen publicly.

It seems like the PR winners of CF this year were KD and DP. I've seen many of their posts in my feed, Dorney seems to be the best park when it comes to engaging with the most accounts, they seem to have the right people managing the account.

Dorney Park’s social media has been awesome this year. I’ve really been enjoying their Menacing Minute construction updates—always relevant and insightful!

  8. I recently found out that when Marriott's Great America (the Gurnee one) had Holiday in the Park, they ran Raging Bull, Batman, and X-Flight. The average December temperature in Gurnee (high of 34 and low of 19) is colder than in Mason (high of 42 and low of 25). Very interesting!
