Rollercoaster(s) rumor

As it stands, we've got 14. Add 3 to that, we'd have 17, and be knocking the door that CP has had the key to (most coasters) for years. Granted, its still the same purse regardless where the cash comes from. I just don't see CP handing KI that particular key. If they weren't skittish about Ohio competition, Geauga Lake would still have coasters.

Then what kind of contract could involve more than one company? That just doesn't make sense. If you're going to contract for three rides or coasters, they would be from the same company. Otherwise, if other companies are involved, it would be done on a contract by contract basis. I highly doubt you would have more than one company on the same contract.

Could it be three different contracts?

Edit: I used bad grammar.

Yeah but you need to look at the bigger picture......IF CP has 17 and Kings Island has 17 that make Ohio a very nice tourist spot and would bring more people to both parks with them being a short 4 hour car trip! It is really a win win!

I'm sure by the time KI got 3 new coasters CP would have either added the same amount or more. I highly doubt that CF would give KI 3 new coasters over the next couple of years and give CP nothing. So either way CP would still hold the "key".

Look at the economy. Look at attendance trends. Then tell me, why on earth would Cedar Fair think of putting three COASTERS in at Kings Island in five years? There are so many more pressing needs, from refurbishment of buildings that Paramount had apparently neglected, to installing more flat rides to funding entertainment, staffing and distributions to unit holders, not to mention payments to creditors.

Coasters are no longer guaranteed to bump up revenues and profits as they once did.

Actually, lately there is not evidence they have helped to the same extent that the same amount of money invested elsewhere would. Shows, entertainment and flat rides all seem to attract more of the money spending families than do new thrill coasters. This may not be the case with Behemoth, but it was with Top Thrill Dragster and even Maverick.

Keeping a balance of family vs. thrill attractions in a park is important, and an argument could easily be made that Attraction 2009 helps fill a void at Kings Island caused in part by the recent focus almost solely on family attractions. But it is difficult to see how three new coasters in the next five years would help the park achieve the balance it needs to attract the demographics it wants.

For evidence of how poorly the "Build the coasters and they will come" theory works when it is the sole focus, look no further than Six Flags Worlds of Adventure nee and lka Geauga Lake.

I personally wouldn't mind coaster installations being spread out more. After TTD, I haven't seen that many new innovations that really warrant building every other year. I think if we didn't see a new coaster for 3 years at any given CF park, attendance wouldn't drop as long as they are committed to making a better experience. And installing other family friendly attractions and flat rides coupled with improvements in entertainment and food.

Firehawk and 2009 coaster, thats 2, maybe we will see another in a few more years. But the coaster wars are over. Look at the state of SixFlags as a whole. Their idea was build coaster after coaster ,which are huge capital investments, ignor everything else until its too late and look at their shape currently. The industry is trending towards family attractions, food, entertainment, and rides the whole family will enjoy. The best strategy is to fill a glaring gap with a coaster like KI is doing for 09. Look for a park like CP to add more and more family attractions and look for KI over the next few seassons to get some major infastructure rehab. Wings and Festhaus are top of mind along with the euro bungee and laser tag dead zone in the park...

And with the heavy debt load that CF has, how good is their credit these days? I know one answer...Proabably better than Six Flags.

I would be fine with 3 coasters in 5 years but I don't see it happening. But we effectively will be gettin 2 coasters in 3 years, which is awesome. And they are actually large, world class coasters, not tiny little things like Invertigo, FoF, or BLST, which btw I love all 3 of them, but other than Son of Beast, Paramount put in all pretty small piddly coasters. And somehow paramount seemed to miss the whole B&M invert trend. If we get another one I hope its a B&M Invert, but unlikely as those are seeming to be a dying trend. I gotta admit coming to the park in 1999 and seeing face off with my own eyes, I was mad. my exact words were "I've been waiting years for Kings Island to give us an inverted coaster like Batman the Ride or Raptor, and they give us this tiny piece of sh**?" nevertheless my opinion changed of Invertigo after I rode it, but still would of rather had an awesome B&M invert than Vekoma Inverted Boomerang.

Flight of Fear was a groundbreaking, major investment. Same with Son of Beast. Or Volcano over at Kings Dominion, Top Gun at Carowinds...the list goes on and on. I really don't understand why people want to minimize what Paramount did....

Nah don't get me wrong. Really I guess I shouldn't even attack that coaster. I think Fof Is an awesome coaster and a very unique one. Other than its clone at KD there's nothing else out there like it. Its amazing how they fit an awesome coaster in a relatively small building, and its definitly the best In-door roller coaster in the world. And everyone knows I love Son of Beast. IN fact I'm one of the few people who don't consider it a bust, and think it delivered everything it promised. I just don't quite get why KI didn't get a B&M invert... in fact other Paramont parks did, we didn't!

Yeah I was looking at Kings Dominion information the other day. Kings Island and Cedar Point are the only Cedar Fair parks I've been to. Volcano looks awesome! And now that they have dominator, It gives me another reason to want to go. Isn't KD the true "sister park" to Kings Island? Correct me if I'm wrong but prior to paramounts purchase, they were the only 2 parks in the chain right?

Nope. Kings Entertainment Company also had an interest in Great America in California, had purchased Carowinds and most of Canada's Wonderland. Carl Lindner, through Great American Financial, owned Kings Island and had KECO managing it under a contract, which was purportedly not going to be renewed. It was Paramount's insistence that Kings Island be a part of its purchase from KECO that reunited the parks.

I will also add Drop Zone at KI and KD as well as Delirium at KI. Even Stealth was a major investment. They may not have been groundbreaking rides but took those rides to new heights. Literally. I cannot believe that people are saying FoF is a small investment. Also, there is a third clone.

Trust me, for the type of ride FoF is I can believe it was a major investment.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with any of the rides Paramount put in. And the rides they took out, aren't a big deal either. Who really cares about Antique cars these days? Honestly with Gas prices the way they are, those things would probably be shut down this year anyway due to gas prices.

But a B&M invert, is almost just as much of a standard as an Arrow custom looper these days so I wonder why KI never gone one.

Not sure if you'll see this, Terpy, and this really isn't on-topic at all either, BUT....so why does SFA's inverted boomerang Two Face: Flip-Side run so poorly compared to KI's?? Oh...I guess I should say "ran" so poorly seeing how it's been SBNO since last season and rumored to be removed at the end of this season!! It (Invertigo) is definitely one of my fav rides at KI!! (well, until next year! ;) )

My guess is a lack of money. Six Flags is going to turn around...or it's going to be in bankruptcy VERY soon...or it is going to be taken over by a hostile acquirer. Stay tuned. What's so odd about Two Face: The Flip Side is that at one time it was far, far smoother than was what was then Face/Off.

I doubt the Antique cars would be removed if Paramount hadn't closed them! Just look at how many "car" rides Cedar Point has! You don't see them closing their antique cars (not sure what the name is). That area where BLSC used to be amazingly landscaped with ponds, and a covered bridge, and now it's a pile of crap on top of gravel! I would be so happy if BLSC was a) removed, or b)relocated to a better position such as Action Zone where it should have gone in the first place! So much of the space around BLSC is wasted, and they didn't even have to remove the Eagles! I really hope that sometime in the future we get another set of Flying Eagles. Coney Mall could really use some more classic Flat Rides. Such as the eagles, that "Casino" ride, an enterpise, a gravitron, and even a Matterhorn ride.

I got to ride Talon last week and that is a great ride. It would be great if KI could get an invert similar to this.

I agree. Talon is my second favorite invert after Alpengeist. The ride is intense and relentless. I agree with many who said that B&M invert is missing at KI although they are still building these inverts. Just look at Patriot and Silver Bullet. They were recently installed at CF parks.
