im disappointed that they never went through with the separate admission for haunt. my pass says no admission to fearfest, although that is odd as fearfest isnt even the term for it, its Halloween Haunt. again, im also disappointed that its only open until midnight on thursdays and sundays, although i can see why they are doing that.

Its also a shame that people who want to stay the whole day lose an hour of riding time as well, I wonder if they will do a "soft" (if you line up at 5:59 for a ride you get to ride, thus if you are good at timing you should never have to leave the park) or "hard" (lines close early so the last ride is at 6) close.

Doesnt really effect me though, becuase for the first time I will not be doing my traditional Friday-Saturday haunt weekend but instead will do a Friday, Sunday haunt weekend with HW thrown in the middle.

Use your park speakers (you know the one you announce show times on) except turn up the volume and warn everyone KI will become "monster infested in two hours" repeat again at 90, 60, 45, 30, 15, 5 minutes, and keep the signs you had last year up too. Any parent who doesn't get the message at that point is a moron who will get ****ed at you for closing the park at 6 anyways.

To add on what Terpy said. Why would you want to kick out your customers when they could continue to buy food and merchandise, adding to your revenues. Kicking them out of the park for an hour seems like a great way to make the paying customers mad (and in turn, a customer that wants to spend even less money), and add an un-needed inconvenience. I just see the whole exiting and re-entering being a potential bottle neck that will anger more guests than it will appease. I remember exiting the park back in 2001 when Fear Fest was a separate gated attraction. It was not fun exiting, because we were "hoarded" through the old season pass entrance, and the crowds were comparable to the thick crowds after a sold out Reds game.

Granted, I realize this is their solution to try and keep parents from bringing their small kids into the haunts and ruining the experience for the people that really want a terrifying experience. But in years past, they had shut down Nick Universe at 5 or 6 anyway, which should have been enough to discourage most parents from keeping their kids in the park, let alone taking them through the haunts. I`m sure the park has had complaints from parents before (I know I`ve witnessed several upset parents in prior years). But that is the parents choice/fault. They had ample warning about when the scareacters begin to come out and the park transforms from family friendly fun to the darker haunts that come when darkness settles over the park.

Just a quick question about September 26. The KI website says the park is closed that day. Which one is right (I really hope it's open)?

Private event by day, Halloween Haunt by night.

I was amazed last year at how many parents just didn't get what was about to happen in the park and heed the warnings. It's kind of sad that the park feels the need to parent these adults with the re-enter approach.

I actually think the shut down Nick U approach has some validity, but this may also give a false impression to those parents with kids above Nick U age who still have no business being in the park when the Haunt starts.

ugh. this does not sound very cool i didnt even see the reentry thing. now we are going to have giant crowds of people waiting to get into the park right at 7. Giant crowds that will not be happy... i have a feeling crowd control will be an issue. and what about the metal detectors? talk about a line...

edit: i seriously think they should just have a system that when you enter the park if the kid is under 12 they get some sort of wristband that basically says only good till 6pm. have any and all staff informed that kids under the age of 13 must be escorted out of the park during the hours of 6 and 7 pm. It really should be done...

Any time a park pushes a guest out the gate, it takes a serious risk that guest will not come back, especially not an hour later. I really don't see the park doing this.

It worked years ago when Fearfest was a separate admission...

Oh, really? If it worked so well (and it did not), then why didn't it continue?

Actually Fear Fest was wildly successful from the start. Why it went to "free" admission with a season pass is beyond me. Many thought the first year was perhaps the best year. The clearing of the park did not work well. And with all due respect to our esteemed mods here, most of them were not old enough to even attend the first one. I have no idea why they would think it worked well. They were probably watching Yogi Bear while Fear Fest was going on.

The original Fearfest was a lot more cutting edge. Later they tamed it down and just joined it with the rest of the day. Now Haunt is more on the cutting edge side so they're going back to the old model.

I honestly think the reason haunt is lacking is because of the sheer amount of people that go. when i went on friday night, it was a completely different experience. we were sent through most with groups of 4-8 and it was way better. you would get freaked, no matter if you were in the front or the back. the saturday i went, it was so crowded the group sizes were doubled and sent in much quicker intervals. you could see what happened to the group in front of you half the time, and it really killed the fun.

But a main difference between that old model and this new model is that Halloween Haunt is included free with park admission and season passes. Unless that too has changed and Halloween Haunt is now an upcharge event, I see no reason why they would need to clear the park. Subject matter or not. I remember attending FearFest back in 2001 when it was an upcharge event, and exiting the park at closing time was a nightmare with all the Fear Fest crowds coming in. They even issued wristbands for those who paid for FearFest because they couldn`t effectively clear the park in an hour before they began letting in the Fear Fest crowd. It simply was a logistical nightmare. I fear that this could potentially happen again, regardless of the good intentions that the park has to ensure that young children are removed from the park by the time the monsters start to roam.

If something works dont fix it.Last year worked out and everyone seemed happy. If they make people leave for an hour,it will make things get ugly.mark my words.fights, fights and more fighting because people will already be ticked for having to leave then come back.now you have bigger lines coming back to the park.I hope they think this one out.

Kind guest, please leave our park and go eat in the parking lot or somewhere else and come back in an hour.

What genius came up with this incredibly stupid plan?

Here's betting it never happens.

I couldn't agree more. There will be some guests that will see that it is approaching closing time and leave just a little bit early so they can get out before the rush. Then, they will drive up the road a little and have a good meal for a reasonable price at a local restaurant instead of in the park. Then, they will be able to get back to the park in plenty of time to line up for haunt and beat the mad rush once again. I think they should think this over. It seems like they are just begging the guests to go "where else" for food, drinks, or whatever.

Really a bad idea. Why clear the park? Whats the benefit? The marketing cost it takes to get a guest through the gate and you are going to risk loosing that person not coming back through because you are affraid of scaring some little kids whos parents do not heed the warning. I do not understand the logic behind this or why the park would choose to clear the park.

I predict this happens one weekend and thats it.

Exactly!! Quick Mason-Montgomery Gold Star meal, followed by a power nap on a Lifetime Fitness leather couch...all without losing ride/Haunt time?! Yes!! :D

Wow, I'm really glad I don't work in Admissions anymore if they are truly clearing the park.

I really don't see this happening the way it was worded. It takes a long time to clear the entire park. And what do you give the guest who exited at 6:00 that will permit them back in at 7:00? Will their original ticket or season pass work again? I hope that Ryan (or whoever gave Ryan the information) worded the process incorrectly. If they push everyone out and have them re-enter, that's a logistical nightmare!

I worked Admissions the first year of FearFest (and yes, as Terpy said, it was wildly successful). Everyone who purchased admission to FF on Saturdays was given a wristband. This wristband is what allowed people through the haunted attractions. No wristband, no entry to a haunt. I don't remember how they handled the rides (whether people could still ride during FF hours if they didn't have the wristband). They didn't really clear the entire park for FF, but handled it much like WDW handles their late EMH for the Disney resort guests. We did open the old season pass gate as an exit to the park due to the large number of people coming in through the front gate for FF. Anyone wanting to exit the park was directed to the SP gate. Wristbands were not only sold outside the gate at the ticket booths, but also at the Return Visit Booth near Keyhole Photo, and we even had our associates selling wristbands out of aprons throughout the park, in Coney Maul, etc.

The original ticket or pass will work:

Your admission ticket (or season pass) will be valid for the day, night or both.

How it's worded makes sense to me. The park closes at 6. People leave. If they want to come back for Haunt, they re-enter at 7. It's not brain surgery.

Last year they had signs posted all over Nick Universe that the area was closing at 5pm on Haunt nights. Guess what? At 5:00, all them people left the area.

I don't see it being the problem that some of you think it's going to be. Some of you make a mountain out of a mole hill with everything.
