Oh, really? You sure they won't require a hand-stamp or an unused ticket? And given how durable the current hand-stamps are....

Separately:

So, where is everyone getting the information about the park closing for an hour?

Is Howl-O-Fest the kid friendly halloween stuff? (i've been to haunts before.. just didn't know if it was the proper term or not)

For your first question, read post 1 of this very thread...

And Howl-O-Fest is the "kid friendly Halloween stuff."

I did read the first post. Thats what I was asking about.. where did they get that information from? Is there an official statement from KI that says that? I thought that since I said, "where is everyone getting the information" that it was implied that I meant post 1 as well.

Post 1 is from Ryan, who only posts information of that sort when he obtains it from the park. Is it official? No. Is it reliable? Yes. Is it subject to change? Always, and I certainly hope so. This closing for an hour is about the most dunderheaded thing I have seen the park devise in quite some time.

Ah, see I did not know that. I totally agree, it seems very convoluted.

Well, when I read this:

Your admission ticket (or season pass) will be valid for the day, night or both.

I assumed that meant that you could use your admission ticket to get back in.

Remember that it doesn't get crowded on Saturdays during the Haunt until roughly around 4 or 5 PM. Nick Universe and the Grove are the only crowded places in the park during the day; everyplace else is dead (no pun intended).

Here's how I see it:

5:00 - Howl-O-Fest ends. Nick rides close down. Families that don't want to attend Haunt either leave the park immediately or get their last rides on the coasters in before leaving. Announcement saying the park will temporarily close in one hour comes on, with more announcements within 15 minute intervals (like Boom. Bay).

5:30 - Third announcement of park's 6:00 closure. Some coasters (Firehawk, Flight of Fear, Beast, etc.) may begin shutting down lines early, perhaps 15 minutes before park closes to aid in getting guests out. Guests may begin trickling out of the park to perhaps rest at home or the hotel for a bit before coming back at 7 when Haunt starts.

6:00 - Park temporarily closes. Guests leave through main gate, going through the exit located to the left of the metal detectors (where the display for the Haunt sits now). Crowds for the Haunt begin to gather outside the Front Gate but stay behind the metal detectors.

6:30 - Two of the three metal gates comes down. Any guests left in the park are fed either through Season Pass Entrance or going through exit mentioned earlier (side exit more probable as there will be crowds getting their tickets for the Haunt). Monsters begin filtering out of Kings Island theater and to their specific mazes.

6:55 - Final metal gate (next to Guest Services) comes down. Monsters begin lining up for the now infamous Wall of Monsters.

7:00 - Self-explanatory. ;)

They do this at Knott's without a hitch, but they've been doing this for a LOOONG time. I had figured/hoped that Kings Island would eventually follow suit, and now is their chance. My guess is that they're going to try and get this to work, one way or another.

I recall a couple of seasons ago, it was announced that the park would close for an hour between reg ops and haunt and that you needed a wristband and ticket (or show your pass) to get inside once haunt began. I was at Haunt 2-3 times that year and I never saw the park follow through with that rule..in fact, all rides and attractions were open between 6-7. I guess the park quietly realized that such a system would never work. I would hope they don't try it again. On a side note, I assume Haunt is included with your gold/plat pass and will not be an upcharge this year?

ugh. this does not sound very cool i didnt even see the reentry thing. now we are going to have giant crowds of people waiting to get into the park right at 7. Giant crowds that will not be happy... i have a feeling crowd control will be an issue. and what about the metal detectors? talk about a line...

edit: i seriously think they should just have a system that when you enter the park if the kid is under 12 they get some sort of wristband that basically says only good till 6pm. have any and all staff informed that kids under the age of 13 must be escorted out of the park during the hours of 6 and 7 pm. It really should be done...

My kids are 9, 5, and 2 and they love HH. They know that its people in costume and that these people will try to scare them. Every year we give them the option to leave and they tell us they want to stay. They enjoy the atmostphere of the park. Last year we waited in line for urgent scare and inside the que lines there was a scareactor that bent down and growled at my youngest and he looked at him and laughed. They proceeded to give high fives to each other for the next 10 minutes. Its all on how the kids are raised. The parents that freak out because there kids are scared are just plain ignorant...if you know your kids are scared of monsters then leave. The park does do a good job in telling parents whats about to happen and there are signs explaining it. Everyone should be allowed to stay in the park if thats what they choose. Please do not make the parents who enjoy the atmosphere of HH feel like they don't belong. If we are paying to get in the park or are using our season passes then we have just as much of a right to be there as the next person. Based on your opinion you expect everyone with kids should be thrown out...yeah thats a great business move. Can you just see that?

Park employee: "Hi welcome to Kings Island. I see you have kids under 12 so I have to put a wristband on them"

Park guest: "Why..what is it for?"

Park employee: "Oh, starting at 6 we will find you and have one our staff escort you out of the park. You have to be out by 7"

Park guest: "Well, thats not right. I want to stay all day"

Park employee: "Well, Im sorry that is the way it has to be...Thank you for coming..Have a nice day"

I am assuming from your post you are probably in high school or are just young and are not around kids. Please think before you post. I bet there are quite a bit of parents on here that post and read these forums. By posting on here I was not trying to offend anyone. I just wanted my opinion known. Thank You

While I can understand your point, HH is no place for children. Last year children ruined our trips through 2 different haunts after waiting in line for close to an hour on each. The children could not handle it so the cast basically had to stop so they could just get through it. And this is not coming from a high schooler, it is from a 36 year old adult with a child.

@blueangel04 i realize that you and your kids can go to haunt, and have a fun experience and that for you it is ok. however, i believe that this is a case of the few not outweighing the many. There are parents who teach their kids well, do not pressure them into things, and allow them to chose. Unfortunately, from my experience that is the exception. Many parents i have seen that drag their kids into haunt whether they want to or not, and simply cause a ruckus whether it be in line or when a scareactor scares them or whatnot. It causes some serious problems, and even though the park is covered with all of its warnings and signage, it still doesnt go away. You couldnt devise some sort of test, as that would be useless and time consuming so i feel like it should be this way. It may exclude a few kids that are ready, but im pretty sure that depriving a kid of Halloween Haunt until they are 13 is not going to cause any serious harm... and i am a sophomore in college, and have 5 brothers and sisters, with all being younger than me by quite a few years...

@cedarpointer yes pretty much every coaster (except top gun) is open during the haunt. many other rides are open, but in my experience with the flats its hit and miss. if you want to go and ride, go for it. The Beast at around midnight with all the fake fog from the machines makes for an awesome ride!!!

Wow, that sounds awesome (the second part of your post) and ITA with the whole post.

LOL Blue angel!! that could have very well been me! i'll totally have fun with the little kids, but as a Haunt scareactor I can attest to both of those. Yes, quite a few kids LOVE haunt! (Such as Beatle's and Hamoperator's kids) and they are a joy to have come through! But on the other hand, there are those parents who (and pardon my wording) are just dumb! They drag their kicking and screaming kids barying their heads into their parents through. Both at Urgent Scare and at Club Blood, I have been there when we've had to actually turn on the overhead lights and quit scaring ppl (or go hide in the back emergency exit paths out of sight) so that some little kid would come out of hiding because they were THAT scared. it really is no fun for us, b/c we're stuck not scaring, and if you get other people in that group their upset cuz some kid is ruining their fun. I've seen it happen both ways.

but if your kids are good for it, major props to you and them! they're what make it enjoyable! :) and i hope you do this year! :) and when you drop by Urgent Scare make sure you say hi before you go into the hospital ;)
