To those with kids under 8

So, I've seen a lot of adults on here saying how awesome the Peanuts will be, but to those with kids under the age of 8, do any of your kids like the Peanuts? I turn on the specials every holiday and even Netflix them and my kids are totally not interested. They're 4 year old twins. Truly, after watching as an adult, a little kid probably can't even really "get" them til about age 6. On the other hand, my kids of course knew who Dora, Diego, Little Bill and Backyardigans were.

I can't even see making the trip this year, and that's sad, because they enjoyed it so much before. Think I'll hit one of the indoor water parks instead.

My son is 8. He really enjoys the Nick stuff (especially SpongeBob), and I don't think he even knows what the Peanuts are. Granted, I myself have never had any interest in the Peanuts whatsoever, so he is not exposed to Peanuts at home. I firmly believe that any kid in this day and age who knows about Peanuts, knows about it almost exclusively by parental influence and nothing else.

However I don't think the brand of ride theming would be a deal breaker so-to-speak from a kid's point of view.

There have been several threads discussing this...including this one:

lawchick, I am also in agreement with you...but it's kinda Catch 22 around here. Our opinions don't count as much as the "general public" because we are considered "enthusiasts"...had you not joined this forum and posted your opinion it would have meant more. rolleyes.gif

My daughter who is 21/2 could care less about most nick characters. Spongebob is truly the only one she watches on occassion. On the other hand she absolutely loved the Peanuts holiday shows this year and we have those saved on the DVR for her. I actually just watched the Christmas one with her about a week ago per her request. My daughter is more in to Disney than anything else, see the trip report linked at the bottom. I think she will be more excited with Snoopy and the gang than when Nick was in the park.

I have a 5 year old daughter who loves Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang. She's been watching the specials every time they're on since she was two, and she gets excited whenever they come on. She also likes the Nick characters and Scooby. Now I'm sure there are kids out there who can't stand the Peanuts gang, that's understandable as all people's (even kids') tastes are different.

But as I've said many times on here, I don't think it really matters to kids what characters are at a park, or even if there are characters at a park; it matters more to the parents. We've been to parks that have characters that are seen on TV (KI, Disney, Sesame Place), parks that have their own characters (Holiday World, Hersheypark), and parks that don't have any characters at all (Dollywood, Coney Island). And at each, my daughter has had the time of her life. Kids will go up and hug any large, plushy character with an oversized head, whether it be Mickey Mouse, Holidog, or giant pieces of Hershey candy... or Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus and Lucy.

I say take your kids this year. See how they react. Most likely, they won't care who is painted on the ride signs. They might even enjoy the two Peanuts themed shows (Snoopy Rocks On Ice & Charlie Brown's Hoedown). Will there be kids who miss the Nick characters? Of course there will, just as I'll miss Scooby. But I've seen planty of cases, not just my own kid, who will like any character at a park.

On a related note, just last night, out of the blue, GatorGirl said "I think the Scooby ride will be called Charlie Brown's Fun House this year". I think that sounds better than Boo Blasters on Boo Hill! And then she asked me when Kings Island will be open again. I've created a monster... but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! laugh.gif
