Cedar Point Bridge Damaged--Man Crashes Into It

Recommended Posts

A man who’d reportedly been drinking veered off the side of the road along the Cedar Point Drive high bridge Saturday, smashing into steel posts and taking out a telephone pole.

David Bier, 40, refused a breath test and resisted treatment, but Sandusky police sent him to the hospital anyway because of his injuries and his apparent level of intoxication, Sgt. Rich Braun said.

While Bier exited the Cadillac almost immediately, his passenger, 40-year-old Gary Wechter, had to stay in the vehicle for almost two hours because the sheared power line put him at risk for electrocution.

“The pole was hanging over the car with live wires,” Officer Andrew Dunn said. ...

Cedar Point spokesman Robin Innes said the crash caused significant damage to the amusement park’s property, but he didn’t have an estimate Saturday.

This makes me wonder just how fast the guy was going...

Bier was driving north over the bridge when he lost control of the car at about 2 p.m., officials said.

He continued to skid at least 270 feet, striking 10 guideposts spaced about 15 feet apart.

The article also says that CP claims he caused "considerable damage" to their property.
