Kings Island Puts Out A Challenge to the KICentral Universe

Recommended Posts

The thrill of a roller coaster ride will have a whole lot more meaning Sunday, July 24, when Kings Island hosts "Coasting for Kids 2011" to raise money for Give Kids the World (GKTW), a Central Florida non-profit resort that provides cost-free, weeklong vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

The fun-filled event is in its second year at Kings Island and a company-wide effort at all eleven Cedar Fair Entertainment Company amusement parks. Kings Island fans and roller coaster enthusiasts alike will enjoy a day filled with riding The Racer over and over again from 8:00am until 5:00pm. All participants are encouraged to raise at least $75 for Give Kids the World to take part. Prizes will be given to the top three fundraisers.

All participants receive complimentary admission to Kings Island, a "Coasting for Kids" t-shirt, lunch and unlimited rides on The Racer.

Now for the challenge - Kings Island has challenge the KICentral Universe to have 50 participants in Coasting for Kids. If KIC is able to accomplish this, then they have offered to cater a very special event for KICentral.

Remember - the intention is not to put up the money yourself, but rather to ask your friends and family to sponsor you for this great cause. Follow the link below for more information:

We did this last year and it was a ton of fun.

This year we are participating, just not at Kings Island. We will be at Worlds of Fun for 2011 Coasting for Kids. I hope that KI will still count my family and I in the 50 person total.

If you haven't checked out who this charity is for, head over to http://www.gktw.com

The story of Give Kids The World begins with a little girl with a wish and the desire of one man to make that wish come true.

The little girl's name was Amy. Amy had leukemia and one wish - to visit the theme parks in Orlando. To facilitate Amy's wish, the request of a complimentary stay was made to a respected hotelier. As he had done many times before, the hotelier gladly obliged and Amy's wish was that much closer to being realized. Sadly, the remainder of Amy's travel plans took too long to arrange and her wish was never granted; Amy had passed away. Time simply ran out.

This unfulfilled wish inspired a man, the hotelier, to make a vow that no child in need would ever be failed again. That man was Henri Landwirth and his desire to ensure that Amy's story would never repeat itself is where the story of Give Kids The World begins.

Landwirth enlisted the support of colleagues in the hospitality industry, including our world-famous theme parks, to assist him in bringing these special families to Central Florida within 24 hours if need be. He called the project "Give Kids The World," because that is just what he intended to do - provide memorable, magical, cost-free experiences to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

As the program expanded and the number of families continued to grow, it was apparent that Give Kids The World would need to create a place that could better serve the special needs of our families. The gates of Give Kids The World Village opened in 1989.

Today the Village is a 70-acre resort complete with over 140 Villa accommodations, entertainment attractions, whimsical venues, and fun specifically designed for children with special needs.

With the help of many generous individuals, corporations and partnering wish-granting organizations, Give Kids The World has welcomed more than 100,000 families from all 50 states and over 70 countries.

If you can't participate, please please help out those that are. This is a great cause that helps families make memories that may just have to last a lifetime.

Mine has donations in it, but the girls are still empty. Any amount helps to put a smile on a child's face and memories in the hearts of their parents.

Back when this was first announced I signed up immediately because I thought it would fill up fast. It is only a week and I am surprised that there are still so many openings.

As I have stated before...everyone who went last year said it was a blast! I have always wanted to marathon a coaster so this seems like the best of both worlds...it will be not only fun but it will help others out. :)

I am very picky on the charities that I donate to...so I usually do my homework. "Give Kids The World" gets a very high rating from Charity Navigator:

Charity Navigator/Give Kids The World

And in case you don't know what the charity is about:

Give Kids The World Village (GKTW) is a 70-acre, non-profit resort in Central Florida that creates magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. GKTW provides accommodations at its whimsical resort, donated attractions tickets, meals and more for a week-long, cost-free fantasy vacation. With the help of many generous individuals, corporations and partnering wish-granting organizations, Give Kids The World has welcomed more than 100,000 families from all 50 states and over 70 countries.

So come on and sign up! :)

I want to do this so bad, but I really don't have the money for the registration. :( I might do it as a virtual person though!

I'm in the same boat. With my financial situation I can't afford to drop $40 on something that isn't absolutely necessary even if it does go to an excellent cause. However I would love to sit and marathon Racer all day even if I'm not helping anybody by doing it

I want to donate to a couple people, but the only problem is that I won't be able to do it with a credit card. Is their any other way to donate?

If you know someone registered and are close, they can bring a check or cash with them the day of the event.
