Spam Posts

Recommended Posts

For whatever reason, we are again being hit by a multitude of spam posts. Some hints:

1. Never, ever click on any link in a spam post. It just may download a free gift...a virus. And yes, you may have anti-virus programming, but someone has to be the first victim. Don't let it be you.

2. Don't reply. It just makes the spam newer and subjects it to more users. And often, the user is a robot. Even if it isn't, the user couldn't care less about you or your opinions.

3. Report the post to the mods, using the report button in the nonmobile version.

Terp, not a spammer!

But the offer of cheap online meds was just so exciting! How could Viagra4U5695 be anything but reputable?

For those of you who hit the report button over the last several days, thank you!

I believe I have quelched all the spammers` posts, topics and suspended the offending accounts.

On the behalf of myself and the rest of the KIC staff, I do apologize for the large amount of spam over this past weekend. Again, if you see a post that is spam, simply hit the report button and do NOT reply to it, as it makes cleaning up the forums more challenging.

Why apologize? You guys always do an awesome job (and this community has some real dead-eyed deputies with their quickdraw on the report button, too (yipee ki yay...))!

(Some topics can look like spam, but be perfectly fine; like the time someone had a topic about the "Mirth Mobile" on here a few years back. I thought it was spam for a new wireless company (reading the accent on the o instead of the i in the word 'Mobile'). I had forgotten that this was the name of the car on "Wayne's World".)

I know they are very iritating but, it might be a good idea to introduce C.A.P.T.C.H.A. to KIC before you can become a member, this might be limited as are board software probably don't support it, but if we were to have a redirect on KIC that would have CAPTCHA before you can even access the forums it should cut down or even eliminate the problem.

For those who don't know what a CAPTCHA is:

It stands for: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.

All they are is simply randomly generated distorted text that is requried to be typed in before you can gain access to a page or website, humans can read this text but robots can not.

EDIT: After doing some research there is a downloadable Add-On to IP.Board forums on the IP. Board/Invision Power website you can actually find it at: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/2705-login-captcha/ Which would be a great idea to add to the forums as it should cut down on the spam.

Cut two pieces the size of a thick cut french fry, pan fry them, put on a hot dog bun, add mustard, Skyline chili (available in the canned chili section of your local Kroger store) top with shredded cheddar cheese, and danged if you don't have a chili dog good enough to smack the Monty Python cast with.
