Flight Deck Celebrates 20 Years

As a child of the late 80's & 90's, Top Gun (Flight Deck) will always have a special place in my heart as well.

Like some of us, growing up I was terrified of coasters, and it wasn't until Top Gun opened my eyes that I truly believed I could conquer them. I'll always remember the theming underneath the loading platform that we waited in on especially at night, and the ride ops in flight jumpsuits, the Top Gun Soundtrack playing on the platform some days, and trying to learn forward just a bit, in order to hold my overhead bar just a little off for more air time & be able to raise my arms out the side.

It's had a great run, and I for one am grateful; For without it I never would've conquered The Beast, or Vortex, or MF, or I305, or TTD.

So Happy 20th Flight Deck! You may not be dangerous, but can be my wingman any time. B)

I remember standing in line for Top Gun during it's first year of operation. Much like traffic on I-71 at the KI exit back then, it was backed up for a long ways. I'm pretty sure the line ended by the front gate if I remember correctly. It was the year after my sister quit working for the park. The ride has become a favorite of mine over the years, and I always make sure to ride it on every trip that I make to Kings Island.

Wow 20 years, so in the summer of 1993 when i was 18 my family and I stood out by Extreme Flyer waiting in line to ride the then named TOP GUN! It is such a great ride that we always make it a point to ride it at least once. Yes the walk back is long and sometimes seems like too much for the length of the ride, but man when I think how much my father loves this ride I can't help but think about him each and every time I take a lap on the now named Flight Deck. Like was said in Field of Dreams. "The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces." That is the way I feel about it every time I climb aboard Flight Deck.
