White Water Canyon Evacuated. Train Stuck at Soak City (7-30-13)

Ment to post this last night. But we took an evening Train ride (7:30 ish) and i noticed WWC had only a tiny stream of water running through it. When stopping at Soak City, we were told that everyone would have to evacuate the train because they werent going to be running another one for at least an hour. Upon walking by a couple of disgruntled guests, I heard the WWC had to be evacuated and that the only way the workers can safely evacuate the ride is by crossing over the Train Tracks. Is this true? Has anyone heard an reason as to why WWC had to be evacuated yesterday? im curious...

Oh wow...the one thing that scary when it happens happened...

Intamin Flumes are the one ride I refused to ever work. In the event of a shutdown and full e-stop..that ride gets dangerous, very very quickly...

To put it simply, rafts at the turntable and transfer can and have gone airborne...

I have to wonder.. How can those rafts go airborn at the transfer table? seems like a pretty simple and easy transition..

When the water drains out of the trough, it speeds up the water flow, and if you don't get the raft in front out of the way ready for the next one, two rafts hit, flip, bounce, ect...The sides of the raft are like giant over inflated tires...so if they smack, stuff can happen...Thats why the ride will routinely do shut down drills/e-stop drills

Also think, e-stops happen mainly if someone falls into the water...so combine all the above with a body somewhere flying through the water, it's not a good day

More often than not, White Water was likely being evacuated because of a boat jam. That's a situation where 2 boats become jammed between the rotating drums. Not as big of an issue usually as stopping and restarting the drums usually remedies the issue. In the event of an evacuation the Train shuts down because guests have to walk across the tracks if they are being escorted back from the trough right out by Diamond back.

Having spent 2 summers at that ride as the Head Supervisor, I can say with confidence that those boats are way to heavy to ever go air born. And E Stops can happen for a variety of reasons. Someone falling in the water is a given, but there are other mechanical issues that training constitutes an E Stop. The way WWC is designed, an E Stop results in the water level in the station immediately lowering as the pumps would have completely cut off. That being said, when the water level rises, the flow of water generally isn't that strong in the area the boats are designed to collect.

Thunder canyon is a different design than WWC. You hit the E Stop at Thunder canyon and the station can flood, possibly resulting in the boats rising above the drums. But when you E Stop at KI, all the water drains from a majority of the ride down to the lake.

From what I knew, when e-stop is hit it automatically shuts off mainwater and starts to purge the trough. Sups don't have to be present to start pumps anymore. Again all from knowledge I acquired while working there. I never would unless I was forced to. Lol, evac a coaster, easy business, just go up, undo the restraint, ease them out of it, walk down some stairs. Boats flipping and all that jazz, count me out lol.

Kinda the same with skyride, run full cabins, get squished haha. Fun ride though and great daily workout

A boat flipping was extremely rare (never happened while I worked at WWC) but it was always a concern in the back of your mind. I thankfully never had to deal with an evac from a situation other than boat jams and losing a pump. WWC normally runs 3 pumps with the 4th always on reserve to be rotated generally daily. With the pumps right next to the station it amazed me how relatively quiet it got when just 2 pumps were operating. Lol.
