Kings Island 7/2/14: The stolen phone

Yes, yes, I am aware that it is well past July the 2nd of 2014, but I have decided to share this now.

I start out at the main gate, excited to get started. I have a somewhat normal day for a while, until I sit down on The Racer, pick something up from under me, and give it to the ride associate. It was a wallet. He takes it, asks me if I stole anything from it, and I replied "God no". He then puts the wallet by the ride operator. (This occurred on the blue side).

I ride some coasters, until my friend begs me to ride White Water Canyon. I eventually do it, but I didn't want to buy a locker, and I didn't want to keep my phone in my pocket. So I figured, what are the odds of my bag getting stolen? (The bag contained my glasses, two CF platinum passes, and my iPhone 5C). I put it in the storage thingy and started riding.

I get off the ride, and to my surprise, my bag is gone. I told the attendant, and they called security. A Warren County sheriff along with a KI Security officer came. They escorted me to the security office. On the door, there was a sign that read "Paramount's Kings Island Police. Respect and Courtesy." (Something like that, I don't remember all of it). Anyways, I go in to the office, file a report, turn "Lost Mode" on with iCloud and talk to some very nice KIPD officers. (Black uniformed, sworn officers). We talk about the how common stolen phones are at the park.

I didn't let the phone thing ruin my day, so I rode Diamondback one last time before it was time to go home. When I got home, I received a call on my landline. It was my phone number. I answered it, and "Officer Daniels" from Kings Island Police Department was calling with a badge number of **** (don't remember it). He gave us a number to call security after I asked, (Since I was suspicious) and I called it. It didn't go through. I looked up security's number and called it. They told me there was no "Officer Daniels" and it was fake.

It was the people who stole my phone calling. I looked on Find My iPhone and it said the phone was by the big Kings Island sign. Security went to the location attempted to call the phone but didn't hear anything.

The next morning, at 5:00 AM, I got another call from the phone. This time it was a girl. She said she was another officer and wanted the passcode to get in. I hung up. The phones last known location was in a horrible area on the west side of downtown Cincinnati in some field. We attempted to look for it. We had no luck. Since then, there is no sign of the phone.

Thanks for reading!!!

How much did your cellular device cost? Have you checked the area's jurisdiction for stolen property? Better yet, Ohio state law for stolen property? If your cellular device costed how much it is illegal to steal in the state of Ohio, you may have some sort of deal to go to po-po with.

EDIT: Isn't the impersonation of any kind of law enforcement automatically a jail time offense?

But hey, that's the reason why I bought a water tight case that I put my phone in. :/

Theft and impersonating police officers... it's really a shame that the culprits weren't arrested. After remotely erasing data, I probably would have given them the code - so that they could keep producing evidence against themselves.

For the future, plastic bags work well to protect valuables in your pockets on water rides.

They're good if you like to use your phone in the tub, too. You can even use the touchscreen through it. I've been bagging mine in the tub for a couple years now. I've only fully dropped it in the water once, but it is definitely worth the trouble.

I always take a plastic zipper bag in my cargo pockets when I'm at the park. The risk of water damage is way less than the risk of theft.

It was $169 from Verizon. Maybe I'll invest in one of those cases if I'm going to be there so much this summer. Especially if the phone is $169. Stupid me.

I lost my iPhone last year at Kings Island, used my friends iPhone and tracked it, it was on the move. It went from the festhaus to Banshee. ( I rode Banshee earlier that day). I walked into the Banshee exit while having it play sound. asked the ride op about the phone and they ended up having it. I have no idea how it ended up out of my pocket. Or ended up at the festhaus at one point. I'm happy I got it back tho.

I lost my then iPhone 5 at the park this past summer on FAAC while with my kids. KI was more than diligent in finding it (thanks to my being able to pinpoint the locale w find my iPhone) and since I lived 2 hours away, was able to pay for their 3rd party contractor to ship it back to me. To make matters worse, I needed the phone that day as I was expected to receive a job offer. Panicked, I went to Guest Services, who were very gracious in letting me use one of their interview areas w a phone so I was able to touch base with my (now) employer and, after explaining the situation, was able to get things straightened out. I saw Don once inside and I think he recognized me from past KIC events, so he sort of nodded to the customer service rep that I was honest and it would be ok to take me back. I wanted to thank him after I was done, but was told he had left for the day. I will be sure and thank him when I see him this summer!

Has anyone ever taken a like a fanny pack or a hip back to KI??? Do they make you take them off for the rides or let you wear them?????? I have a small runners pouch that fits under my tshirts like a belt almost and I was just wondering if I could keep it on or if them would make me take it off
