Cedar Point 2016 Talk

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

Wanted to point out, that several coaster clubs got an email today from Tony Clark at CP to share with their members...

I’m writing to you today to address a concern regarding visitors to the park in the winter, and I’m also asking for your help. We are fully aware of the increase in curiosity. However, it must be noted that the park is still private property, currently closed to the public. Any attempt to explore the park, unescorted, is considered trespassing.
Although access is granted to Bay Harbor Restaurant during select hours, we’ve encountered several “fans” attempting to drive further into the property. Our Cedar Point Police Department has already contacted several of these individuals, and we will continue to take this very seriously.
We will invite guests to see the park at the appropriate time. Our team would greatly appreciate your assistance in discouraging these visits, especially when it comes to content posted online.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Tony Clark
Director of Communications
Cedar Point Amusement Park

I hope that none of us here at KIC are silly enough to visit CP while it's closed. But a friendly reminder, please don't do anything to harm the reputation of KIC, GOCC, ACE, Coaster Crew, etc.

We'll all know and see it soon enough!

^ I agree it is silly and I am sure they have their reasons for handling communications about MS they way they are but being so secretive is just setting up the potential for problems. Some people have to much time on their hands and are just to fanatical about coasters. Attempts will be made either on shore or off shore. It just seems like it would be better to put a web cam on it or release some construction photos periodically to feed The Beasts. In the end they would likely be able to control the communication better that way.

99.9% of the community will obey the rules and be responsible, a few will not and then if CF then blames the community for the actions of those few, that is what I would find silly. Hopefully that won't happen.

Regarding SFSTL, if everyone is healthy we will be visiting family over the holiday break so I will likely go to check it out BUT given the short hours (2-9) and limited rides available I am not going in expecting to ride anything. The lines potentially could be huge and standing in line in freezing temps for an hour or two would be very unpleasant. Winter in St. Louis tends to be overcast and moist. Fine for being outside and active, but not standing still.

Oddly I had a dream about the Mean Streak RMC conversion last night. It had a runaway train theme (my mind probably based that on Tony's tweet calling the track "railroad track" when he was asked a few weeks ago- did he just hint at the theme?), and for some reason, a "shed"-like dark ride section for the MCBR (not at the end of the ride like Mystic Timbers will have- also I doubt the real ride will have that feature) and there were more airtime hills/banked turns/inversions afterwards. It looked very fun and I woke up excited, then realized it was a dream. :P

There is also a railroad track separating Mean Streak from the main midway.

Does anyone think that the RMC conversion will be done this offseason?  I would think they would announce that.

I'm sure they probably said that...I mean they almost would have to with non disclosures especially when speaking with someone of the "media" (I put quotes there for a purpose). I'm also sure they would have to say that since the park has not announced anything at this point either.

There could be validity in that statement but unless it is coming from CP and RMC their-selves publicly and not at a trade show to a member of the "media"/coaster page I will wait for an official word.

Except if RMC had a project which would open in 2017 which could not be discussed the normal response is that, "We have nothing to annouce at this time". I have also heard "I cannot discuss possible future projects."

To just flat out state that RMC has no 2017 projects is very telling to me.

Have to agree here, its essentially a lie if Cedar Point announces their new RMC opening in 2017. If they said that then it looks like 2018 is much more likely.

They may be able to discuss future projects but they may not be able to discuss for 2017 specifically for CP until the park announces.

That's what a NDA does. It prohibits anyone who has signed on to talk about project in any form until it's allowed through the agreement. I believe they said what they were able to say.

I also find it very telling that the Facebook page said "RMC says "there's no RMC projects opening in 2017"."  Note, they didn't say who they talked to from RMC. They didn't disclose a source other than "RMC says."

That reminded me of a page on Facebook that supports Indiana Beach creating a podcast that stated what you could see happening at IB next year because his "source" said so and you'll see once the press releases are out. When looking at the Facebook page you can see it's all about self validation, not valid information.

I disagree here. They said "there's no RMC projects opening in 2017". They may be completing construction of a ride in 2017 commission it and accept payment for it but RMC does not decide when a ride is "opened" the owner does. If Cedar Fair does not provide RMC with an "opening" date, RMC therefore has nothing on their calendar that says they have a project opening in 2017. There is no lie because RMC has absolutely no control when a "project opens".

They might not know MS's opening yet. Just because they may have have engineered a project plan and have an expected completion date, that does not mean they can keep it once they get rebuilding. MS is a big coaster, who know what unknown variables they might come across. That is not even considering MS is at the end of the peninsula and any possible weather delays that other locations might be a little more protected from in the winter.  Just a few thoughts..

I have to stand by my original statement. I would wager RMC has a good bit of knowledge on when their projects are likely to open and that delays are much more likely than early openings. If the source is reputable then 2018 is still much more likely. There perhaps may be an early opening of sorts in 2017 with the official opening for 2018 or an event to try the ride with an early 2018 pass purchase but I wouldn't think its very likely.

Or the person who runs the page may have looked for "info" and was told that statement whether or not it's true...posted the info in hopes of being the first to "announce" it, which would create the post being shared, allowing for the posts to be seen, the would then have people checking the page out, liking it, etc. with having a "click-bait" type post.

You know, Ive said it before, and I will say it again and again regardless of whether or not they get their thick heads out of their......  this industry makes me laugh sometimes.  They rag about the thoosies being curious and wanting to get some "exclusive" news, and yet they do things like this.  I understand them not wanting people trespassing... I really do... but at this point Stevie Wonder can see that there is an RMC rework of MS going on so why not let people watch the webcams for entertainment like the powers that be at KI are being gracious enough to do?  I enjoy things like this from an engineering/architectural/construction standpoint and would actually enjoy watching the progress of the revision.  Whatever, just had to get that off my chest.

Well, today's Point Blog states that CP bought something at the IAAPA convention, but labeled it vague.  Also, the camera can't turn to something in Frontier Town because "the motor is broken".  (if that ain't the biggest pile of happy horse sh*t I've ever heard!)
