Best Seats on Coasters

I would interpret 5-1 exactly that way.

It depends, really, on what kind of ride you want to determine the "best" ride.

For example, I learned Sunday that mid-train on Diamond Back gave my stepson and me much less airtime feeling than closer to the front of the train. This could also be a difference in the front of the car vs the back of the car. (I don't recall which car/seat, specifically in these examples).

On Sunday, Vortex 3-2 was a pretty rough ride compared to what I'm used to getting from that coaster. I also found that I have very limited leg/knee room in *-2 on Vortex and will only go for *-1 in the future.

I find 6-1 and 7-1 to have a bit more intensity than 5-1 while keeping a smooth ride.  I also like the front seat on Vortex a lot.

Beast and Racer I try to ride in the 2nd row of each 3 row train to avoid sitting over a wheel housing- makes it less jarring though Beast is somewhat better over the wheels.  Front seats are the only good exception for both.  Adventure Express is sort of similar, but its smoother so choosing a wheel seat isn't as bad a choice.  I actually like the very back on AE.   It fits the runaway mine train act better.

I find Invertigo a little more tolerable towards the area of the train that starts closest to the cobra roll.  I've even had some non-banging rides in that area.

Banshee is good about anywhere, but the back makes it a bit more unpredictable.  Diamondback is good pretty much anywhere as well.  I find that the front has the strongest air, and as you go back, the air becomes more floaty, but better sustained.  My go-to row is 12, 6th car outer seats.

Flight of Fear is the one coaster I avoid the front as it comes to a near complete stop on the MCBR and the front car hangs awkwardly to the side.

Bat definitely has more swinging action towards the front.

Backlot and Firehawk are good anywhere.

Here's my two cents...

The Beast and The Racer: the middle row of each car is the smoothest as you are not in a wheel seat. I prefer front row on night rides.

Diamondback: Row 2, either seat

Banshee: 8-4 is my go-to seat on Banshee, honorable mention for 1-4.

Vortex: 5-1 is a good ride. The first drop in 7-1 still takes me by surprise each time I ride it.

The Bat: 7-1 is my go-to seat.

Flight of Fear: Front row, every time

Backlot Stunt Coaster, Invertigo, Firehawk: The red Ford Focus in the parking lot.

On Mean Streak, the very best seat is on the bench out in front.

On Maverick, it's Row 1 or that same bench. For me.

And Maverick is now and remains my most favoritest rolley coaster on the planet. Honorary mention, because it makes me, Volcano: The Blast Coaster. No matter how deep my funk, that thing ALWAYS makes me happy. Regardless. Row 1, please.

And dishonorable mentions:

* Any seat anywhere on The Roller Coaster at New York, New York Casino.

* Same, any Zamperla Flying Coaster. If I never ride another, it will be too soon.

* Same, Comet, The Great Escape, a member of the Six Flags Theme Park Family. Once my favorite coaster, what the heck happened to this thing? Sigh.

My choices:

Banshee: 8-4 anytime, or front row at night. But there's really no bad seat, so if they're assigning, I'll usually just take what they give me.

The Bat: Front row or go home.

Invertigo: Either end.

Adventure Express: Prefer toward the back, but will ride anywhere.

The Racer: Any *-2 seat. On rare occasions, I may wait for the front row.

Flight of Fear: Front row.

Firehawk: Couldn't care less; it's the same experience no matter where you sit. And they usually assign seats anyway.

Backlot Stunt Coaster: Front or back row.

The Beast: Extreme front row or extreme back row. I find that wheel seats on The Beast are several times smoother than *-2 seats on The Racer.

Diamondback: Back row.

Woodstock Express: Back row.

Flying Ace Aerial Chase: Back row.

Surf Dog: Not a coaster, but I prefer the left corner of either back row.

Vortex: Nearest park bench. :P (Seriously, that thing shakes my head around so much, even in 5-1, that it gives me a headache for the next couple of hours.)

Flight of Fear is the one coaster I avoid the front as it comes to a near complete stop on the MCBR and the front car hangs awkwardly to the side.

Ah, but that is precisely why I love the front row on Flight of Fear! :)

For me, the best seat in the park is the very back seat(s) on Diamondback.  Being pulled over the top by the rest of the train on that first hill is amazing!  Then push your hands back on the splash-down to get cooled down.

I second that last part. If only the park was open today; I'm in the mood to hang out on the water rides.

Front of any car on The Racer. I rode in the very front a few times; it's smoother, but the wind deforms my face throughout the course.

And why do you care about that? ;)

Vortex (KI), Mean Streak, Flight of Fear (KI, at least): I'd be like everyone else and say a park bench nearby, but that's such a waste of time.  My preferred seat on those is the nearest other ride.   ;)

Top Thrill Dragster (and by extension Kingda Ka) are rides you might wish to skip front row night rides on.  The bugs, oh, the bugs..  Gatekeeper is presumably the same but to a much lesser extent, what with the lift on the beach and all.  Wait, on the beach?  So it's sinking?  Thought only Magnum did that!

Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka do it even more.

Front row on either or Maverick at nightfall or later means you get bug smattered.

I rode Dragster at night a few years back and ended up with a nice long cut across my forehead via mayfly at 120 mph.

And yet, I've seen people come back in pouring rain, having loved the ride.  Apparently, rain doesn't hurt that much at 120mph, or you're just not at that speed long enough for it to hurt.  Hmm...  After launching in the rain, only then did the ride go down due to "weather".  *shrug*

Vortex: 7-1. All day every day. I really don't get the 5-1 hype. 7-1 is every bit as smooth if not moreso, and is infinitely more thrilling because of the airtime on the first drop.

Beast: Second to last row in the train, or either of the first two rows.

Racer: 1-3. It comes with some... turbulence... but the airtime is incredible. Same is true of Maggie at Cedar Point (Though the worst seat on Maggie is better than the best seat on any other coaster except Vortex)

Flight of Fear: The very back seat. OH WAIT

Invertigo: If I must ride it, I'll stay near the middle.

Diamondback: It's almost thrilling if I sit in 8-2. Almost.

Banshee: Front row for the view, back row for the thrills

Adventure Express: Second row of the train

Backlot: Near the back. Or better yet, the driver's seat of my real car, which has more comfortable seats and restraints, accelerates from 0-35 faster, and has working on-board audio and LFE...

The Bat: Front seat. All day, every day. By FAR the best seat on this one.

Firehawk: doesn't matter, but I far prefer it at night when there is rarely a line.

Banshee - front row

DBack - Backish, like the pull

Beast - Backish again. I love being in the back watching the train and people in front me all screaming in reckless abandon, especially in between the helix tunnels. The train is out of control. Also love how loud the train is exiting the 2nd tunnel. I like how KI has The Beast "tuned" right now. It feels fast despite some trims.

Just outta curiosity.

I've rode Mean Streak, front and back. I never had the privilege of riding the big wooded monstosity that got tore down at KI a few years back.

Which one was/ is rougher?

Son of Beast most years when they co-existed.

And Texas Giant got worse than either.

Now, Comet at The Great Escape, a member of the Six Flags Theme Park Family, puts them all to shame. And that's a shame. Predator at Darien Lake has occasionally been just as bad, as was Mega Zeph at Six Flags New Orleans near the end.

I always preferred Diamondback front seat at night with the lapbar a little loose. Towards the back end it is dark enough you can't see anything, coaster or train, and the hills with a loose bar give a nice bit of airtime where you actually come fully off the seat. One hell of a ride

Beast during the day - back

Beast during the night - front

Flight of Fear - front, I enjoy the hang time right after the MCBR.

Banshee - back for the thrill, front for the view. I tend to go for the back of the train.

Invertigo - either end is fine.

Diamondback - front.

Drop Zone and Delirium - front

All of the other rides, I typically don't care where I sit lol.

Diamondback - row 2 or back car

Vortex - never rode anything but front so I will be trying the 5-1 and 7-1 theory. Anybody like 6-1?

Invertigo - I never get too banged up

Flight of Fear - I can't find a smooth seat that doesn't jerk you like crazy. Some rides are smooth some are worse than SOB.

Firehawk - any seat

Racer - non wheel seat

Banshee - I got Fast Lane and got put in row 8 and the seat closest to the queue (I don't know seat numbers) 5 times in a row and kept on graying out. I then asked for the front and it was amazing.

The Bat - doesn't matter

The Beast - front on night rides but never during the day, non wheel seat

Dragster - whenever they call single rider

Millennium force - row 5 lake side for airtime, back row for "intensity", and front when the line for it isn't half way filled.

Mean Streak - Front, I'm going to try the back for laughs.

Maverick - it was the front but now there is no headbanging so the back

Magnum - non wheel seat, ive heard the back doesn't beat your legs on the airtime but never felt like risking it.

Gatekeeper- back either side or the front

Raptor - front 2 rows

Gemini - NOT BACK, I threw out my back

Rougarou - ill find out on sunday

Wicked Twister - Back row

Blue streak - non wheel seat

Valravn - front row ......

EDIT:Wow, its my 100th post!
