Recommended Posts

I have watched several videos and read many reviews and thought it would interesting to see what everyone thought were the most painful roller coasters by manufacturer.  I admit I have not rode all these rides.  So mostly by hearsay for me.  What do you think of this list?

  6. Gerstlauer              - TMNT Shellraiser @ Nickelodeon Universe - American Dream Meadowlands
  7. Intamin                  - Skyrush @ Hershey Park - due to the lapbar
  8. Mack                      - Coast Rider @ Kott's Berry Farm - due to shin guards
  9. Maurer                   - Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit @ Universal Studios
  10. Premier Rides        - Sky Rocket II models in Sea World chains - due to Neck comfort restraints
  11. PTC                        - Great American Scream Machine @ Six Flags Over Georgia
  12. RMC                      - Outlaw Run @ Silver Dollar City
  13. S&S                       - El Loco @ Adventuredome

Worst vekoma coaster I've ridden is Roller Skater. Roller Skater is a rough ride but its for families, what do you expect? That also tells you how measly my coaster count is . Worst Zamperla I've ridden is Southern Express at OWA, but that is also a kiddie coaster. No, I don't think Rollin' Thunder is bad, it is in my top 5.

If we are counting The Beast as a dinn, that would be my pick

I honesty think The Beast has gotten smoother over the years. It used to give me bruises but now, even when riding in the very back, it barely shakes at all. I still think it needs a re-track, but I'm also nervous about a retrack. A retrack might take away the rides rumble.

As for the most painful B&M I think we have it. Banshee's vest restraints plus its rattle has made it become far more painful than any of the head bangers.

Yeah I'm not on that train of the most painful being Banshee. I'm only 5 foot 7 inches and I'm skinny. I have never had any problems with really any roughness on any coaster besides Beast.

I'm trying to imagine a world where this is possible... Have you not ridden the Raptor at CP?  Those pull-down hard (slightly padded)restrains are down-right insufferable compared to the vest restraints.  For me, any ride with restraints near my head where it can bang into them is a no-go.

B&M for me is Mantis when it was still a stand up.  Rougarou mostly improved that from my experiences and is one of my favorite steel coasters now.

I always rode Vortex in the very front or back because anywhere in the middle that wasn't 5-1 or back was pretty rough.

Son of Beast for anything wooden (and ever) by a mile, particularly post 2007 'refurb'.  Even as bad as Mean Streak could be, it had some decent moments here and there.

The roughest steel coaster I've been on was Viper at SFGAdv.  A Togo sit down looping coaster which boasted the first ever inline roll and a wicked bad inclined dive loop to boot.   Restraints were awful and made worse and claustrophobic by the support ring design.

That's how I felt about Green Lantern at Magic Mountain. The over the shoulder restraints and the shield at the side made you feel like you were trapped in a ball and being tossed around. It was claustrophobic and definitely painful.
