Charlotte, N.C. (January 31, 2005) – Kids and parents hit it big…REAL BIG, when Paramount's Carowinds opens the 2005 season on March 19 with the introduction of the largest Nickelodeon® area at any theme park in the world, featuring five new attractions and an extreme Nick makeover of the park's kids' areas.

Fly, twirl, swirl, swing, laugh, scream and experience the best that being a kid has to offer. Nickelodeonâ„¢ Central, based on popular characters and shows from the number one children's entertainment brand in the world, becomes five times bigger than before, loaded with more than 20 attractions including five new attractions that kids and their parents can enjoy together!

Five new attractions in Nickelodeon Central include:

Phantom Flyers – These interactive phantom vehicles allow free ‘spirits' of all ages to steer their course swooping up and down, weaving side to side, and gliding through the air with ghost-fighting superhero Danny Phantom™!

The Flying Dutchman's™ Revenge – Ahoy Mateys! Guests navigate rotating mini-pirate ships and help Patrick Star™ escape the evil pirate specter! Pivot, twist and turn a full 180 degrees while sloping up and down along the Bikini Bottom terrain.

Little Bill's™ Cruisers – Guests set sail with Little Bill on mini speed boats, each with its own anchor bell!

Dora the Explorer's™ Azul™ Adventure – Kids and parents are all aboard this four-minute ride on Azul, the train. Families join Dora™ and Boots™ the monkey on a storybook adventure. Riders encounter sights from Dora's world while listening and watching the story unfold along their trek.

Nick Live - An interactive family game show featuring friendly competition, loads of trivia and, in true Nickelodeon style, pies and slime!

"Thanks to the incredible partnership we enjoy with Nickelodeon, we've been able to create the best children's area you will find at any theme park," said Bob White, general manager of Paramount's Carowinds. "Nickelodeon is a brand parents know and trust to provide first-rate entertainment for the entire family. Kids can be kids in Nickelodeon Central and parents can be parents with attractions and experiences that they can share along with their children."

From Dora the Explorer, Diegoâ„¢ joins the cast of more than a dozen NickToons characters at the park. Bringing smiles, laughter and plenty of hugs, kids can get up close and personal with their favorite NickToons celebrities. Parental paparazzi are welcome for this red carpet spectacular!

Nickelodeon Central incorporates all three Nickelodeon networks, including Nick Jr.® and TV Land® and a dozen Nickelodeon shows throughout the 16 rides and other attractions. The area also includes the NickToons Café, four other eateries and an expanded Nickelodeon Store, filled with kids' favorite Nickelodeon games, gadgets and goodies.

Nickelodeon Central also features numerous creature comforts that help make a day at Paramount's Carowinds as relaxing as it is enjoyable including a smoke-free environment, plenty of seating & shade and a baby care facility for the park's youngest guests.

This one-of-a-kind Nickelodeon immersion brings kids' favorite Nickelodeon TV programs to life. The 15-acre playground highlights the network's newest shows in addition to other Nickelodeon favorites currently featured at the park such as SpongeBob SquarePants™, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius™, Blue's Clues™ and many more. Nickelodeon Central encompasses the area of the park formerly known as Animation Station and Zoom Zone. In addition to the five new attractions, Nickelodeon Central features the following rides – Backyardigans™ Swing-a-long, Tommy's™ Take Off, Nick Jr.™ Jets, The Fairly Odd Coaster™, Boots'™ Balloon Race, Nick-O-Round, LazyTown™ Sporticopters, Hey Arnold's™ Taxi Chase, TV Land™ Road Trip, The Wild Thornberrys™ River Adventure, Rugrats™ Runaway Reptar™ and Rocket Power™: Air Time.

Nickelodeon Central opens March 19, when the 105-acre theme park opens for its 32nd season.

I know at the IJST tour in Jan. the PKI staff mentioned that as the park has success it gets more $$$. It’s just a matter of time before PKI is the destination for thrill seekers.

I disagree with that -- I think that the park is right in thinking that thrill seekers are only a small fraction of the whole picture. I think that in the next 5-10 years you will see Paramount's version of Universal Studios... either that or they'll just forget about the whole thing and have a mixture of classic-style rides and movie-themed rides.

Now, as far as Paramount dishing out more $$$ due to the fact that the park is doing so well is a definite plus. I never really thought about the parking area as being "ugly" but in comparision to what they'll likely do, that may be the way it was remembered.

Really though who cares about a parking lot?

Any way I think that PKI is heading more towards a mix of Universal and Cedar Point. Here is why:

PKI is starting to spend alot of money on theming (TR:TR and IJST) however

PKI is also adding new thrill to the park such as Deliurim and Son of Beast.

They are just trying to appeal to all guest and not just like a certain type such as Cedar Point and SFMM are doing. Universal appeals to a family due to its location and its rides and PKI just wants to appeal to them all.
