PKICentral Exclusive: Nick Universe Construction!

Recommended Posts

Today Maureen, along with her new partner in crime Jennifer, were so kind as to give the staff of PKIC the opportunity to see some of the latest progress on the New for 2006 Nickelodeon Universe!

Some things include:

  • A nearly complete Danny Phantom's Flyers
  • A nearly-complete Plankton's Plunge
  • The MUCH BIGGER THAN EXPECTED Avatar!
  • Building and concession construction.
  • Several offseason rehab photos from around the park.
As stated above, the Flyers and Plunge look like they are nearly complete. Avatar is vertical but has yet to see its skater car. Overall, the area is looking beautiful.

Click here to see the new NU construction photos!

A very special thank you goes out to Maureen and Jennifer for spending the afternoon with us. You guys will always have a place at our table.

Regards,

Ryan

UncleHenry, there are several images in there of the Phantom Flyers. One I took is currently on the last page, and then there are several that Ryan took on pages two and three.

Yes, a big thanks to Maureen and Jennifer! Another wonderful construction tour!

As far as the ACE walkback goes. The gates to the park will open at 10am with the parking lot opening around 9:30. ACE members should meet between 9:30 and 9:45 over by the Season Pass processing building. The ACErs will then be escorted in through the side entrance. The park will have signs for the ACE walkback. Bring your ACE cards, they will be checking them!

A few extra notes since they're on my mind:

First of all, the ACE walkback will in fact be conducted at the old season pass entrance to the left of the main gate. There will be a sign there for its meeting place, so if you're a member, make sure you bring your card.

Also, the spotlights will remain on the tower but will only be used for special occasions.

That may work fine for ACE members in the early season, but if the parking lot normally doesn't open til 9:30 and the walkback leaves at 9:45, on many times members will still be trying to get in the toll plazas at the time the walkback leaves.

Hopefully, on busy summer weekends, the parking lot will open earlier than 9:30. If not, PKI may be responsible for traffic jams on I-71 backing up to downtown Cinci in one direction and 1/3 of the way to Columbus in the other!

This'll stop the nay sayers of NU. That avatar is huge, A carnival ride it is not.

No it won't. You people are making Avatar out to be some EXTRAORDINARY new type of ride. Its a Disko....with a bunny hop. Really, not that special. Also, for those on that tour, can you confirm what my friend from food service told me yesteryday? Is it true that they removed the tunnel from Beastie....er.....Fairly Odd Coaster?

TombRaiderTy, if you are referring to this building over by Reptar and Plankton Plunge, it doesn`t look like a restroom to me but some sort of food stand. Now, there is a restroom close to this building, seen here.

No, we really didn`t get close to The Beastie, er Fairly Odd Coaster. The closest we got was when we were over by Avatar, and saw that the trains had been covered up with covers, to protect their new paint job. The only change that was visible in fact was the new coat of paint on the cars (from Winter Soar). The ride and queue houe remain the same color. As of Winter Soar, the tunnel was still standing.

I think that Avatar will prove to be a popular ride among the public. Just like SDGC was popular (if you ever rode that ride, you know that it was not a very fun or smooth ride, not to mention the terrible capacity). Avatar will have a better capacity, and has a visual appeal to it due to its size, and the large Avatar character that will be mounted to the ride vehicle. It will kind of be like Delirium, with lots of people just watching it. I am looking forward to trying out Avatar. You don`t need to have a little kid accompany you on Avatar.

I can not confirm nor deny that. Simply because I didn't notice. However, it seems as though construction on FOC was minimal with the exception of painting the trains, so I doubt it's true.

Also, for those of you who STILL want to rag on Avatar, don't forget that PGA is getting basically the SAME ride with the SAME dimensions... and that's their new attraction. We're getting the Avatar, plus two more new attractions and a totally renovated kids area. Once again, this one's for the kids, so just let it go. (Although I must say that Avatar seems a lot more tempting than I had imagined it. What's a "kiddy" ride to us is a major attraction out in California.)

NU is looking great. It's looking very colorful and Avatar and the Phantom Flyers things looks really fun. All the peoplethat complain about the rides being carnival rides should think back to when we found out the park was getting rid of the Flying Eagles, that type of ride can be found at a carnival. And like BoddaH said, it's for the kids.

But once again the whole area is looking great. I can't wait for the 14th and nice job on the pictures.
