Park Vandalism?

I have seen random vandalizm decrease recently in Carowinds, but what has always bothered me in the parks was trash. I don't know how PKI ranks in this department, but I can tell you another park that was the nastiest I have ever been in, and that's Six Flags over GA. My wife and I went there a few years ago and have not been back since.

Think about Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Ok, now imagine it was never cleaned for say....like a week...ok, now throw in some urine and vomit. Ok, your almost there. I'd say it pretty much ruined the trip for us. Needless to say the vandalism was pretty bad too.

From an older point of view, I'd say a great deal of the vandalism you see is due to pure bordom. Remember your school? Think about all the things that are destroyed, vandalized, or stolen in areas where you have to wait? The backs and edges of classrooms...places where you stand in line. The front or back hangouts.

There's a lot of that kind of destruction that can be avoided by simply adding a coupld of video cameras in the parks. Even fake ones. IMO

Chewing gum is another big thing, i personally love chewing my gum discretly while working, but i also dont feel the need to spit it out onto the floor at a ride or any other places while walking to Oscars on break.

I cant remember who it was on my '05 TRTR Crew, but somebody counted the pieces of gum on the left side of the PreShow Que. Where the Employees walk back to Rendez Vous after escorting the guests into Preshow area. It was something like 200+ pieces of gum just on the side Alone.

Not only is it nasty but its also dangerous, that should for sure be prosecuted. As for Prosecuting everyone. Yea i completely agree with that, but i dont think the park could afford to hire as many attorneys that would be needed to fight the onslaught of continous vandals. How about a $150 fine instead? Im sure that would deter some people.

There also isnt enough security, they need some sort of security at each ride. Also if anyone here has the information i would like to know what a Ride Op can and CaNOT do if encountering a vandal? (< Id like this to be official, from someone who KNOWS and not a guess from someone who heard it from someone else) Because we cannot keep them there against their will while we go to call security. Perhaps the usage of clever trickery and complicated wordage?

Yes ive spent many late nights cleaning gum off the floor in the TRTR Q-line.

I've seen the red benches behind Action FX Theater smashed in; toilets stuffed with toilet paper (and other gross stuff); signs that read "You will get wet on this ride" with the word "wet" scratched off, and every imaginable word in its place; and trash/food/traffic cones thrown into the bed of my pickup truck in the parking lot. You can have the nicest park with all the security and signs you want. There still will be those disrespectful few who just don't care! dry.gif

A couple years back, while riding The Beast, I had 2 a*holes trying to use a lighter on the side rails, while stopped on the back hill. Security was standing around at the exit, I turned them in. I was called every name in the book by them, but too bad.. I was also asked if I would testify if needed, no problem, but I was never called. I've also turned in a*holes for spitting on people coming into the station over Vortex, what happened to them after that, I have no idea. Under cover security in lines would help.

  • 2 weeks later...

I really hope with the new owner of King's Island that it will become more like Disney in terms of vandalism. I've been to Disneyland many times in the past couple of years and noticed that vandalism is almost non-existent. The only thing I've noticed at Disneyland is the bamboo around Indiana Jones has some names carved in it. They sure do a good job in cleaning up vandalism right after it happens because I never see much.
