Six Flags' 'Fright Fest' Halloween Celebration Offers Guests Both Tricks AND Treats

Wednesday September 13, 9:00 am ET

Spooktacular Fun Awaits Guests at Six Flags Fright Fest This Fall - and a ****roach Is Your Ticket to the Front of the Line!

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Six Flags (NYSE: SIX - News) is preparing to scare up some fun this fall with its famous "Fright Fest" Halloween celebration! Every weekend beginning September 29th, Six Flags parks are transformed into haunted scream parks that harbor ghosts and goblins of every shape and size. This year, to complement Six Flags' family entertainment focus, the celebration will adopt a "Family By Day, Fright By Night" theme -- when family-friendly entertainment offerings will be available earlier in the day, and scarier, more daring alternatives will take the stage at night.

During the day, costumed characters, hayrides, trick-or-treating and not- so-scary creep shows will delight the little ones and scaredy-cats, while at night haunted houses, mind-altering illusions, ghouls and zombies are ready to frighten those brave enough to visit after dusk. Every park will also host a variety of special events -- screaming contests, zombie parties, Halloween weddings, karaoke, costume contests and more.

And to put the "bite" in Fright Fest this year, on nights during opening weekend a live ****roach will be guests' Ticket to Terror -- and the front of the line! Courageous volunteers who opt to chow down on one of these creepy critters will be granted an instant place at the front of the line for some of Six Flags' most popular rides and attractions. Daring guests willing to eat their way to the front of the line will have to be quick! ****roaches can run at a speed of three miles per hour. The nutritional benefit? ****roaches are extremely low in fat and high in protein.

In addition to creepy Fright Fest chills, Six Flags guests will have the most dramatic thrills! When they come for Fright Fest's tricks and treats, guests can experience one last spin on some of Six Flags' unparalleled thrill rides, from Six Flags New England's SUPERMAN - Ride of Steel, voted best steel coaster in the nation by Amusement Today magazine, to Six Flags Great Adventure's El Toro; Six Flags Magic Mountain's Tatsu; Six Flags Over Georgia's Goliath; and dozens more. And don't forget those pint-sized goblins, who will certainly want to squeeze in one last squeal on the ROAD RUNNER Express, TWEETY Tweehouse and Goliath Jr. to name just a few.

Sounds like a FearFactor episode. Maybe Kings Island should set up a FearFactor event and put it in the Paramount Theater and have guests be subject to all kinds of FearFactor antics. Then change the antics year after year, I could see how that would be entertaining to watch for some guest and some would like to partake in the creepy crawling and the drinking of gross concoctions.

I see that they are copying Kings Island`s FearFest motto of Fright by Night and Fun by Day. Only for Six Flags, it is "Family by Day and Fright by Night."

Personally, I think the whole ****roach eating thing is utterly disgusting. Not to mention sure to make those waiting in line angry with those skipping the line.

I'm with CoastersRZ on this one. I wouldn't dare eat a crockroach. Disgusting little vermin. dry.gif I also wouldn't appreciate people cutting in front of me because they ate a roach. If they paid, then that's another matter. If you're dumb enough to eat a crockroach, I don't think it entitles you to anything. Fear Factor is the dumbest show ever...next to Survivor.

Wow i must say that this is one of the oddest things i have ever heard. I am not saying that i wouldn't do it to maybe to get to the front of a line to a ride like say uhhh.. Goliath, Kingda, X, the usual long line rides. I dont know though it is still a nasty thing to do.

I'd eat almost any bug in a heartbeat.. but I'm deathly afraid of c0ckroaches. It's the only physical thing that can make me scream(if one is on me) or freak out. But if its to cut the line.. me being a teenager.. I'd close my eyes and eat it biggrin.gif I honestly believe alot more teens wil do that then buy a cut the line pass.. but thats just MHO

LARGO, Md. (AP) - Most Six Flags theme parks are offering visitors the chance to skip to the front of the line for rides this month if they'll eat a three-inch-long Madagascar hissing cockroach, but the gimmick isn't being offered in Largo.

The theme park in Six Flags chairman Daniel Snyder's backyard won't be serving up the cockroaches because of concerns it would detract from its goals for family-focused attendance.

The Washington Redskins (website - news) owner took control of the amusement park chain last fall and vowed to attract more families and fewer packs of teenagers to the parks. But the company reported in August that attendance was down 14 percent.

A spokeswoman for Six Flags America in Largo says they're working to attract families from greater distances, including northern Virginia and the Baltimore suburbs. She says they don't expect many moms and dads would love seeing their kids eat cockroaches.

Can't remember where I read it. Maybe over at Coasterbuzz. Anyway, I heard that PETA is mad at Six Flags for allowing corkroaches to be eaten for a skip to the front of the line. Guess you can't be choosy when you are defending all animals, insects, etc.
