Make Up Inaugural Class for Kings Island Walk of Fame

Walk of Fame induction ceremony to take place August 30 at Kings Island

Kings Island, Ohio – Former Kings Island employees Carmen Electra, Dennis Spiegel and Janeen Coyle make up the inaugural class of Kings Island Walk of Fame inductees. The induction ceremony will take place Saturday, August 30 at 3:00pm in the International Showplace Theatre.

The three-person class was elected by the Kings Island Walk of Fame Selection Committee. The first members of the Walk were selected from a list of 20 finalists that had been determined earlier by the committee.

Ms. Electra begin her career as an entertainer at Kings Island in 1990 as a dancer in one of the most popular shows in the park’s history, “It’s Magic.” The American glamour model and television personality gained fame for her appearances on the MTV game show Singled Out, on the television series Baywatch, and for her roles in the parody films Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans. She stars in Disaster Movie, a 2008 comedy film in theaters beginning Friday, August 29.

Internationally recognized as a leader and expert in the theme park/leisure industry with over 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Spiegel directs International Theme Park Services, Inc. (“ITPS”). He began his career in the amusement/theme park business in 1960 as a ticket taker at Coney Island in Cincinnati. Mr. Spiegel quickly worked his way up to assistant park manager of Coney Island and then Kings Island, where, as assistant general manager, he supervised general park operations, including personnel, rides, food/beverage, merchandise, games, and guest hospitality from 1972 until 1974, when he left the park to become vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion/Lion Country Safari in Richmond, Virginia.

Ms. Coyle worked at Kings Island in 1976 as a rides associate on the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad. She has gone on to have a long and successful career in radio, starting at WKRQ in 1979 while attending the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. She began with overnights, worked middays, and later moved to afternoon drive where she remained until 1988. From there Janeen did talk radio, hosting the very popular Chick Talk show. She co-hosted morning drive on WKRC until she was contacted about joining her husband, Chris O’Brien, in 1995 and forming the unique husband and wife team heard weekdays from 5:00am – 9:00am on 103.5 WGRR in Cincinnati.

Kings Island is open to the public August 30-31, September 1, September 19-20, and Fridays nights, Saturdays and Sundays beginning September 26 through November 2.

Discount tickets are still available online at www.visitkingsisland.com or at any Kroger or Meijer store for just $29.99!

An all-new level of fear takes over the park this fall with the return of Halloween Haunt. The biggest Halloween event in the Midwest features more than 400 blood-thirsty monsters, highly-intense attractions including chain-link mazes, frightening wooded trails, disturbing clowns in 3D and some of the most hair-raising rides on the planet! Halloween Haunt will be open from 7:00pm until 1:00am every Friday and Saturday night beginning September 26 through November 1.

So I have to ask, are the old Paramount movie plaques in the old Paramount story area going to be turned into the Walk of Fame? It would be a logical place for it.

EDIT: It looks like RailRider beat me to the question.

I wonder what other names were on that list of potential Walk of Fame choices.

Now if only that Walk of Fame area could also feature a little museum with pictures/memoribilia from past attractions at the park, the park could claim that area to be another attraction, instead of just a secluded, not often visited area of the park.

Why not do it. What better event to have than the all employee reunion and the first induction in to the walk of fame. I think it creates excitement in the park and with employees, plus it is something they go do with every employee reunion. I think its a great idea.

I fail to see the importance of placing someones name on a plaque or into stone, simply because they are popular.

In order to make a venture like Kings Island successful, it takes all the efforts of every employee.

Whether you work in the front office, or food, or rides, or the paint shop, or where ever - each are important.

As I've said before, I see no value in popularity contests.

So theres something wrong with honoring employees that either got their start at KI and went on to become sucessful in life or employees that worked at KI, helped shape it in to the park it is today and have helped shape the industry? I think its something for KI to boast about, just like colleges and the sucessful alumni they have had. You know it might also motivate current employees and show them that yes you can start from the bottom and work your way up.

I second Gordon, do you feel cheated because your not receiving this honor any time soon???

I agree RailRider, it is a good way for them to show off. Kings Island started as a model for other regional theme parks, everyone wanted to be like Kings Island. Now, while I like a lot of things Paramount did the park soon became a "Mctheme Park" of the 1990's, today I think KI is back on its way to having its own identity again and the amazing things they have done this year signify that.

Having never been a fan of popularity contests, I just have to ask why are they doing this?

What's wrong Woofer, being a former employee yourself, don't you think you have a chance to make it onto the walk of fame?

No, I have taken my name out of any competition or contest that I have ever been entered into.

I find this type of thing is far more destructive for moral than good.

As I've said, I do not think that I am any better than anyone else, nor do I think that Carmen Electra is any more worthy of praise than the person sitting in the parking lot taking money.

Work Your Way Up To Janeen Coyle or Carmen Electra?

Please explain to my why that is more to aspire to than anyone else?

And for a second time, no I would not participate and I do not consider a popularity contest to be an honor.

Personally, I think that one of the inductees should be the security officer who died trying to save the person who got electricuted in the Viking Fury pond.

I'm not sure why?

After all, there is Janeen Coyle and Carmen Electra to honor!

I actually was on the list of potential WoF additions. Yes, here's how my section would have went...

Mr. Uncle Henry got his start at Kings Island in 2003 as a ride operator. Through the years, he worked his way up to supervisor of the legendary Beast. In 2007 he left the ride department, and began working the fantastic Halloween Haunt event, as one of the many twisted monsters who prowled the park. He later went on to be the host of the very successful "KIC Survivor" series, as well as the creator of a video on YouTube with over 300,000 views. We owe everything to Mr. Uncle Henry.

Or at least that's how I envision it in the future.

Changing the subject back to the topic here, I would think Mr. Don Helbig would be a most appropriate selectee....his many Racer rides and his love for the park are evidence of why he would be such an appropriate choice. Too bad that his status as a current employee would almost certainly make him an unlikely choice.
