  1. Things were kinda rough but I had a great time! As a pass holder who goes biweekly, I expected the park to be off its game a bit. I would never recommend someone who only goes to Kings Island once or twice a year to go on opening day. However, if you go regularly and have that itch after a long winter, it’s worth it to just see the park alive again and get a couple laps on your favorite ride. I’ve been to way worse opening days in the past and I’m sure the park will be humming like a well oiled machine soon enough!

  2. Yeah, but in their defense, it’s an unavoidable storm on the horizon. On Friday they ran out of the double stack chicken sandwich, but in their defense, it was tens of thousands of season pass people, with a high percentage having the meal plan, all of which have tried every other item on the menu. I don’t know if there’s a great way to plan for that. I do agree that the Icee thing was a bit of poor planning and poor communication, but from the looks of it, a lot of the issues were corrected throughout the day on Friday or Saturday. Rides went down, lines were long, food portions were inconsistent… but name an opening day where this wasn’t the case. As somebody who was admittingly pessimistic over the past year or so, I was pleasantly surprised.

  3. This is actually the first season in awhile that I've missed Preview/Opening day and I, for once, am actually ok with that. It sounds like it was a stark contrast from last season. I totally understand that preview and opening days can and will have their fair share of hiccups and crowds, but I am more than ok with letting things iron out a bit before I go. I hope everyone who did go this weekend had fun!

  5. Not food related, but we ran into the same issue with the single use Fast Lane with our Prestige Pass. There was ZERO communication from the park to passholders, or even the VIP Lounge workers. We were all scanning at the lounge Friday and were being told to go to Guest Services to get our single use Fast Lane. A simple, "Now all you have to do is scan your pass at the ride to redeem!!" would have been more than sufficient from the park. But, I guess the PR team was too busy taking selfies. My wife and I have decided that this season will be our make or break season as far as if we renew for 2025. We have been passholders since 2016. Things are not off to a good start. But, to get back to food, the park better step up their supply of ICEE, or Guest Services is going to be very busy this season.

  7. That it is. I was completely fine with the strawless ICEE, but what was irritating was trying to find where to redeem for coffee (yes, they actually hade it) because it was so cold in the morning. I asked the park on X but received radio silence, which was nice of the KI Team to not let consumers know information on where to redeem items that have been bought. ICEE was fairly straight forward for me, aside from the straw lol.

  8. I’d for sure be good for a few “magic” KI bands. That could be really cool if done right.

  9. Looks like NFC to me. Could be compatible with a watch or phone. Just make sure that your phone is secure when riding the coaster. They could include them in the season pass (like with your bank card). I think when prices get low enough they will just do NFC tags. They are cheap enough now to put in a type of "magic band" and would operate much quicker than the QR Code.

  10. This is the product being used, which according to the website, does indeed support NFC tickets/wristbands. https://www.alvaradomfg.com/products/ultraq-pedestal/

  11. QR Code on the wristband. My son was having issues with getting the QR code just right under the scanner. I am OK with the scanners, but it seems it is slowing the traffic down for queueing waiting on someone to get their wristband to scan.

  12. https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog/2024/top-thrill-2-rider-safety-guidelines LOCKERS Working with the manufacturer’s recommendations, Top Thrill 2’s rider safety guidelines were revised after initial testing, resulting in our strict policy of loose articles not being permitted past the ride’s entrance. Due to the later revision, the integration of lockers into the queue, similar to those at Steel Vengeance, was not possible. We encourage riders to leave any loose articles with a non-rider. If you wish to rent a locker, they will be near the entrance for a nominal fee. These policies are in place for the safety of our Guests and Associates – and safety is our first priority. Thank you for adhering to these rider safety guidelines to ensure a safe and FUN ride. We look forward to seeing you on Top Thrill 2 this summer!

  13. Keep in mind that KI no longer has a contractual business relationship with Camp Cedar.

  14. Yes! That will give it that “rustic kids camp” look in no time. There’s truly no substitute for authenticity!

  16. Anymore, one should expect the circus to be in town when CF attempts to deliver on a new season pass or add on. Adorable as it is predictable.

  17. I went to get an ICEE at Ice Scream Zone in AZ.....they said, "we don't have straws." I told them that was okay and just grabbed a spoon.

  18. Had a couple of line jumpers in the Banshee line. Texted security and they showed up shortly after. However the 2nd party that needed to vouch for them were their friends so they didn't get kicked out of line. I have seen Line jumping too many times and not putting up with it anymore and will text security every time I see it this year

  19. I thought it was a little funny seeing these Planet Snoopy signs still up along the new path. Not exactly a big deal, and may still be addressed, but I do hope these get rethemed and painted as well. No reason to not repurpose them somehow.

  20. New this year in the FastLane scanners and the Fastlane KIOSK's around the park. I know it was touched on in the general discussions over the weekend, but wanted to give it its own thread for discussion. What do you think, like it, don't like it, and tell us why.

  21. Metal detectors don’t prevent loose articles from making it onto the ride. https://www.mlive.com/travel/2018/07/hot_sauce_injures_steel_vengea.html Maybe CF should look into foregoing metal detectors and instead issue safety glasses with strap to riders, and after the ride take them back. Like what most 3D attractions do.

  23. Something like Disney’s Magic bands would sell like hot cakes at KI. During Winterfest the park sold out on the Wonder Wands which used NFC to interact with objects within the park.

  24. Hershey's still sounds harder. Its this Hershey Kiss shaped symbol on the wristband that you have to line up with the subsequent Kiss on the scanner, and its facing on the wristband makes you twist your arm around awkwardly.

  25. It’s nice to see the park embracing technology. I haven’t used the kiosks yet, but they look great! The scanners in its current iteration is a bit unintuitive. Having to wear and adjust my Fast Lane bracelet to get it lined up with a scanner is very dated. I say that because of the experience I’ve had with Disney’s lightning lane which uses NFC and can be scanned from a card, phone, Watch, or their version of a Magic Band. I’m assuming this is an NFC reader emblem? It appears so and that I find exciting because there is so many things that they could do with such a system. Imagine scanning into the ride and being able to see your ride count for the year/day/all-time. They could keep your ride count that you can compare with other guests ride counts.

  26. Looks easier than Hershey's scanner where you have to line up the band with the scanner a certain way.

  27. Did I mention anything about me personally getting angry? No, I did not. I know there are a lot of kids stepping into their first jobs, but I was speaking in theory of the people who do not care if said associate is taking on their first day at their first job who may not have the forethought to think about that before copping an attitude. What I should have highlighted is that team leads/supervisors should be on their game and be able to properly back up their lower tiered associates with the proper info. If my Lieutenant was not able to fill in the blanks for me in areas that I am not equipped to handle, that would be a very bad look on my department. I realize a lot of things come into play as things move along, but I also realize that it is up to the leadership to ensure everyone is as well informed as possible and to train as necessary to get everyone on the same page. That's all I was getting at.

  32. So correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen fundraising shifts like this at KI. Could this be their response to the lack of workers in the spring/early summer?

  33. Maybe he meant that it'll be stained from the soda, ice cream, etc. spilled on the concrete since they won't run the water truck.
    1 point
  34. I really hope he is not just talking about the new stained concrete at the entrance to the area and that the park actually stains all of the concrete throughout the area to make it more cohesive. There IS new stained concrete at the entrance to the area, but then the rest of the area is currently a mess of old concrete, new concrete, and orange concrete.

  35. If I had to guess, the new scanners will also allow them to collect data. For example, when are people using their Fastlane and on what attractions. How soon after purchasing a single use FastLane are they being redeemed? I am sure they can collect a lot more data than the old system, which relied on the operators to put check marks on a sheet of paper. This new system also allows for real time data.

  36. Anyone notice that Viking Fury ride cycle is shorter? I can tell because it used to clear the station area in height, but now it doesn't and seems a little less in duration. Some of the other rides like Space Buggies seemed to be less as well.

  37. The "excuse" we got from the ICEE place next to French Corner on Friday was that they didn't have the correct size cups for the drink plan. Didn't try on Saturday. I am really hoping that was the only hold back, cause I'd like some different flavors throughout the season.

  38. We were turned away, along with about 3 groups ahead of us. Then Saturday I ran into someone with an orange slushee and asked where they got it. They said the place next to French Corner. Seems like there was a quick policy change.

  39. I think the single use fast lane kiosks are enough.

  40. I think they should have honestly just bulldozed all the concrete and started from scratch with pavers or at least fresh concrete for the whole area. The pavement doesn’t seem very cohesive as it is currently.
    1 point
  41. Hopefully they can clean up some of the paving "confusion". There's old concrete, new concrete, orange concrete, white concrete, stamped concrete, you name it all going on and thats just in the area of log ride/ Linus ride. This will hopefully bring an area of the park all together into a themed whole, or it will create a mess of conflicting themes and ideas all living next to each other. I know its not done yet, but its heading into the "mish mash of themes" direction. I wish they took the chance to really make this new area feel more like an extension of RiverTown, and hopefully that's the plan. I'm still not sure why the also didn't take the opportunity to retheme Space Buggies to off-road 4 wheeler or relocate them in Planet Snoopy and bring in another small new flat to that pad so that entire area with Franklins Fliers and Kite Tree could all be a "gateway" to the camp area. Its just a lot of ideas all running together right now

  45. Used our drink passes at Tower drinks today as virtually no line. It was interesting that a group of kids in front of us asked for “water cups”. The associate said water cups were not available at this location and to check with any of the eating places. Could KI finally have solved the kids hack of asking for a water cup at the drink refill stations and then proceeding to fill it with soda? Just thought it was interesting and will see if that policy holds all season or Tower drinks has just not yet stocked their water cups.

  46. Sadly I street is the same jazz music as the past couple years. When I walked in and heard it, I was pretty mad. I don't understand why they are still keeping the same jazz music. The 50th anniversary was 2 years ago. It's past time to go back to actual classical orchestral pieces. They might as well rename I street to New Orleans Square at this point lol.
