Umm, hasn`t Cedar Fair been doing some major upgrades to their waterpark? Most of Cedar Fair`s parks have added a major roller coaster in the last couple of years. Dorney Park, Worlds of Fun, Knott`s Berry Farm have all added a B&M coaster in the last several years. It sure would be nice if PKI were to get one of their creations sometime in the near future.

I think that Coney Island would be the perfect park to add the Whip. A classic ride at a classic park. -
Is Cedar Fair is the new owner of Paramount Parks?
CoastersRZ replied to CoasterXtreme's topic in Kings Island
Yeah. While it seems that Cedar Fair has an interest in the parks, it doesn`t mean they will be buying them. I mean, I have an interest in buying a BMW. But that doesn`t mean I will be buying one anytime soon. I simply don`t have the money for one. I think Cedar Fair might be in a similar situation with Paramount Parks. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the coming weeks and months. -
I don`t know, Busch could also be a good fit for Kings Island. It will be interesting to see what happens. I certainly do not think that Cedar Fair would be buying all five Paramount Parks. They simply won`t have the funds to do so.

In an article that appeared in the Toledo Blade there was some interesting news about Cedar Fairs interest in at least Kings Island. Read the full article here. At least we now have confirmation that they have an interest in buying Kings Island, even with them owning the other two major Ohio amusement parks.

Well, they have to get it ready for its state inspection before any of us can have the priveledge of riding it this year.

And don`t forget, the park that spawned Kings Island is still in operation! Coney is coming off the heels of one of its best seasons (at least in the rides department) since all the major rides were moved to KI in 1972. Coney is home to many classic rides, that used to reside at KI and have long since been removed. (Trabant, Round Up, Super Slide). -
Very goo question on whether or not the train will be ope this weekend, or whether it will open on the official kick opening of Boomerang Bay next weekend.

First of all, who is to say that Son of Beast is draining the park of money? Secondly, how do you know that PKI is going to be a "bad" park soon? IMO, PKI has been adding just the right attractions the last few years. Yes, things here and there could be improved upon. But overall, the park is improving itself, not worsening itself.

Yep. In fact, Jack Rouse who was a Professor at UC`s CCM quit his job at UC to become director of the entertainment department and designing the new shows for the KECO parks. He was one of the executives from KECO that bought the parks from Taft before selling his interest to Carl Lindner in 1987. Ironically, he, like many other executives from Taft, has his own theme park design/consulting firm in Cincinnati. Others are Dennis Spiegal, in the news lately for the Purple People Bridge Climb, as well as Bruce D. Robinson Architectural Design. Ironically, while Jack Rouse no longer is an employee of Paramount Parks, he still is doing work for them. Bubba Gump`s Shrimp Shack was designed by Jack Rouse & Associates. Also, Jack Rouse & Associates provided many of the thematic elements and designs for several of the attractions at this past year`s WinterFest including Holiday Illuminations and the White Christmas Express.

Yep, forgot about the Saltwater Circus site. That site is now used for one month they are open for a FearFest haunt. IMO, that location would be the perfect location for a wild mouse sized ride or a flat ride. That midway back there is dead and only used by people to get back to The Beast and TR:TR.

Hopefully, the ride will give its namesake a run for its money now! Not just for the park`s sake, but it has the potential to be a fun ride. The view from the top of the lift is amazing, especially for it being a wooden roller coaster!

I`m glad to hear that things went well at the press event today. Having been fortunate to go to the WinterFest media night, PKI takes really good care of the media! It was an honor that I was among the first to experience WinterFest. PKI as a whole has been tremendously supportive of the enthusiast community and offered us many AWESOME perks and special events. Thanks PKI, for allowing us such wonderful opportunities!!

Sorry, I hadn`t heard that he said he was keeping them. I knew they weren`t on the for sale list. If he is smart, he will keep them and not bulldoze them! -
Why bring up that "other" PKI site? And it has been rumored for a while now that they will be trying the ride with five car trains instead of six. Not only have they retracked lots of portions of the ride, but new wood can clearly be seen in various parts of the structure as well.

Yes, the Nick Parade and School of Rock will be the highlights of the entertainment department. But, years ago, the park would have three high quality shows, one in the Paramount Theater, one in the Festhaus, and one at International Showplace. In addition to that, they used to have roaming bands, such as the Kings Island Clown Band. Not unlike the roaming entertainment that they offered at WinterFest. WinterFest actually showed that the park still can put on good shows and entertainment. If only they would carry some of that over into the regular season (not just WinterFest and FearFest).

Well, I haven`t heard anything official. But you might just want to stop by the park this weekend. You might be surprised...

And you know that how?? Personally, I would LOVE to see Coney Island buy the Whip. Coney is always touting its "Classic Rides" and the Whip is about as classic of a ride you can get! Also, the logflume would be a nice addition to Coney, but probably out of their price range. Another flat ride from Americana would be nice. Keep in mind that when Park River Corporation sold Americana, they relocated the Tempest from Americana to Coney Island, where it is still running today. Also, when Fantasy Farm closed (the park that was next to LeSourdsville Lake, the rides were auctioned. Coney Island ended up buying their Tilt-A-Whirl and their Sky Fighter children`s ride (the latter of which has since been removed from Coney, before my time working at the park). ZosoBeast, how big is Americana`s Round Up? As big as the one at Coney? The one at Coney is also a Super Round Up and has room for 42 riders per cycle. It is ashame that this classic park has to close. Hopefully, the classic wooden coaster won`t be lost either! With the park`s close proximity to PKI, it is no wonder that the park couldn`t financially compete. -
Are they running behind schedule? Last I heard, they were aiming for a a late October/early November opening. Maybe they are going to "soft" open so that they can be prepared for a rush of people over the Holiday Season that will be visiting PKI during WinterFest.
-
Hey, don`t complain about cleaning your ride area. At Coney, if somebody gets sick around your ride`s immediate midway, chances are that we, as ride ops, will have the task of cleaning it up. Ecology at Coney is not staffed very well and does not often have the time to get over to a protien spill in a timely manner.
-
Well the ride ops aren`t technically taking a break then are they? They are still on the clock, just taking a break from their normal duties of a ride operator.
-
Reon, the pizza they serve at PKI is a Cincinnati specialty: LaRosa`s. Time will tell what happens with a new owner for the park. It will be an exciting time to see what, if any, changes the new owners will implement (in all likelihood next season). I have been to numerous other parks, including Disney World, CP, PKD and PC. PKI just has a charm to it. I had a similar feeling while at Disney World. Most other seasonal parks just seem to be "missing" something. What exactly they are missing you can`t really describe. I will go to PKI countless times this year (in the order of 30) and I won`t get tired or bored of visiting. I just love going there and having fun, and I know I can do that anytime I go up to the park.
-
Yes. They don`t know what they are actually missing with all the effects running. Same goes for IJST. They don`t know what they are missing because they don`t know otherwise. I have a feeling a majority of guest complaints might stem from the new opening procedure, which has yet to be run like a well oiled machine.
-
Well, I`ve actually heard a ton of commercials on the radio for PKI. Promoting the gold pass and Nick Universe with its "Six" new rides.

Nope, Dial is not a P&G brand. P&G soaps are Zest, Olay, Old Spice, Camay, Safeguard, and the infamous bar that floats: Ivory, the creation of a mistake by the batch operator.
