  1. From what I have heard, they purchased the ride from CP and spent most of last year refurbishing the ride. I heard that they were to open it this year. I have not heard when they are exactly planning on opening that ride.
  2. Well, when I rode The Beast, it was just after it reopened from its mechanical delay. When I left the exit area, there were no additional queues open yet.
  3. Well, the Walk on Weekends is the only time you will be able to partake in the IJST speed lane. And they are only doing that from mid June through the end of July. Last year, they started WoW in the beginning of May. As far as the early ride times go, they are only announcing those a couple weeks in advance, and thus why they only have three weeks listed on their website.
  4. BoddaH1994, you bring up some very good points. Especially with gas prices as high as they are, PKI might be pulling less from the surrounding demographics as they have in years past. Additionally, locals that normally vacation to other places like Florida, or the ever popular Myrtle Beach maybe staying around Cincinnati. Could these people be the ones who will fill the hotel up? It will certainly be interesting to see how the new resort is received and how successful it is. For the amount of money it is costing to build it, and for PKI`s sake, I hope it is a success.
  5. While the lines appeared long, do you know if they had all of the queuelines open? I know that yesterday The Beast had a line down to the vending machines, without any additional queues open. But The Beast had a problem with one of the trains yesterday around 11, resulting in it going down to two train operation, in part causing the line to move slower. Glad you posted again!
  6. Hotels, and upscale hotels at that. It will likely not impact hotels such as the run of the mill hotels like Holiday Inn Express and such. But it will likely have an impact on the full scale Marriott an exit south on 71.
  7. Right. But there will be some families that would have stayed at other hotels in the area that will decide to "upgrade" to the new resort. While you are correct in saying it will not likely have a big impact on other area hotels, I think it could affect some of the more upscale hotels. If a family has a choice between an upscale hotel and the resort which includes a waterpark for the kids when not at the park, it makes sense that the family would choose the resort. That being said, based on the rates at the Great Wolf Lodge, as you stated, it will likely have little or no affect on the occupancy of the majority of the hotels in the area.
  8. I seriously doubt it will, as in all likely hood you will have to have reservations at the resort to have access to the indoor water park. However, the resort can bring in more families that will spend time at Paramount`s Kings Island, and in turn Boomerang Bay. So it will hopefully cause the attendance at both PKI and BB to increase.
  9. The above appeared on the Cincinnati Enquirer`s website on May 5, 2006. To see the whole article about the Great Wolf Lodge, as well as some construction pictures, head over to the Cincinnati Enquirer`s website here.
  10. That cleared land to the north of Son of Beast is the remains of the Wild Animal Habitat that used to run through that area. Currently, they have several old parking lot trams stored back there, as well as some track pieces from King Cobra. I do believe that some of the remains of Scooby`s Ghoster Coaster have found there way back there. Nothing new has really happened back there lately, other than the Great Wolf Lodge on the former campground site.
  11. Yikes, 50 rides!! Don`t worry, my brother and I will be down at Holiday World on May 20th to take some spins on the Voyage, and Gobbler Getaway. The on ride video looks awesome!
  12. I rode Skyflyer, and it is a fun ride, but after the first couple of swings, there is not much to it. I have never tried Slingshot, but would like to. The $5 deals they have in the mornings are a good deal, considering they have been known to charge as much as $20 per person for it! As for the Eurobungee, I would imagine that it would be a rather boring thing to experience. I could not see people paying $7 to do that thing. It wastes space, and that location would be better served by some sort of attention grabbing flat ride. That side of Coney Mall needs some TLC as it is a little "dead."
  13. I do not think that they intend to modify the trains, other than the routine maintenance that they do every off season on the trains. Some minor modifications may be made, but I wouldn`t expect anything drastic.
  14. It wasn`t a very major color change, but King Cobra was painted for the 1999 season, the same year Top Gun was stripped of its red track. King Cobra`s rails used to be yellow. For the paint job they alternated colors between yellow and a lime green color. Then after 2001, the ride was disassembled.
  15. Please tell me you were joking about Flight of Fear using compressed air, right? It uses LIMs, not compressed air.
  16. And, I doubt that they are really changing the way they set prices for admissions, even with the sale imminent. Food prices are another story though...
  17. Yes, it shows when the staff really enjoys what they are doing. Heck, I`m going back to Coney on a very limited basis, simply because I enjoy running the rides at Coney! I`ve had operators (and riders) in the past ask me if I ever got tired of saying "Did you have fun?" or "Did you enjoy your ride?" Especially on the Ferris Wheel, where I would end up saying that twelve times per ride cycle if it was a full ride. And no I didn`t. You have to look at it as this could be the one visit a year the family makes to an amusement park. You need to make them be in a fun environment to experience the rides. One of my managers summed it up best on a very busy day in my first season when I was at the Scrambler. He said that while we may be working hard, kids are riding the ride I am running having fun and making memories. Just seeing people have fun on the rides is enjoyable and rewarding. Especially when you get the kids (like from the Big Brothers and Big Sisters) that remember you from their visit the previous year and remember what ride you were running!
  18. No, Paramount aways has raised the price in mid-May once daily operation begins. Nothing new there, and isn`t really tied to Six Flags raising the prices of their passes.
  19. That is just a rumor about removing one of the cars. The park is going to do whatever it takes to make the ride smoother and more enjoyable. If that means removing a car, then they will remove a car.
  20. There is not really much to see. Just a few tarps over the track here and there. You might occasionally spy a worker walking the tracks. They do have at least a couple of cars sitting over by the loop, with their covers on. But you can only see those while riding Adventure Express, and since the taking of pictures on rides is strictly prohibited, you won`t be seeing any pictures of the cars.
  21. Next to Top Gun and Son of Beast where? There is really no room between them unless you are building on the far side of them, but then access to that area becomes an issue.
  22. TopGun1993, I have long thought that that would be the perfect spot for a maga flat ride or two. Make access off of the Flight of Fear midway, and tie in over by the Adventure Express exit area.
  23. Very well put Interpreter! I coulden`t have summed it up better myself. Yes, this website is a fan website. And as you mentioned with fans of anything, they will notice its flaws, no matter how minute and comment on them, in hopes that they will be remedied. T
  24. Well, they might be flxeible with me because I had three solid years in there. Plus my brother is also in his fourth year in the rides department, and was in the top few of most hours worked in the rides department last year. But generally, the turnover rate at Coney is so high that they will generally take all the help they can get, when they can get it.
  25. Well as a former (and possibly current) Coney Island ride operator, welcome! They are pretty flexible with scheduling. I have all my paper work filled out to return again for my fifth season (although I was only there a couple weekends last year). (Hard to believe I started there back in 2002!) I will only be working weekends in the spring until mid-June, and then very sporadically (ie maybe 1 shift a week, if at all) in June, July and August, and then back again for the final couple of weekends in September and October.
