KD is re-theming and refurbishing their FOF for 2025.

KI's continually has one of the longest waits in the park, and its a co-anchor of Area '72.

I don't think they are going anywhere anytime soon.

While I agree with that, remember that Slingshot was repainted/refurbished in 2022 only for it to not operate again so you never know.

They have enough The Rides at Paramount Parks.

We need some kind of Star Trek experience. It is like the longest lasting Paramount brand and their most successful. I think they are holding out on it so that people go to Star Trek: The Experience.

A Star Trek themed coaster next to FOF where Firehawk (and eventually Orion) went would've been cool lol

It's been rumored like many times before, that 2006 will be the last year for Vortex sad.gif I hope it's not true. But if it is hopefully they will replace it with a nice big looper.

Well you were off by 13 years and it's now just a giant empty field lol.

I was wondering when everyone thought we would see the events for this year. Most parks have released theirs, but we have not really heard anything.

I feel like KI usually waits until like a few weeks before opening day to release their event/live entertainment lineup for the year.

Just realized that I forgot to put the Food and Wine Festival on the topic list, whoopsie! Also, I feel the need to clarify that Dorney Park's Summer Nights is a Latin festival— more like Viva La Fiesta than the similarly-named events at Knott's and Cedar Point. It was a really cool event and I hope it returns to Dorney next season!

I'd also like to see Grand Carnivale and Viva La Fiesta combined into the same event on paper, but I think they should keep their names. Keeping the names/branding would help keep the overall cost per park down and would probably save the chain from over-extending their brand recognition. Haunt and FrightFest would be good for this treatment as well! Share some of the mazes (including some of the IP ones), move the events around between parks that might need a rebrand, and maybe spice it up a little so there would be less kids and strollers clogging up the pathways (sorry to people who bring their young kids).

It looks like 2019 was a really good year for events at Kings Island. There were more than a few special events advertised, Grand Carnivale was brand new, and Haunt had received five new and original attractions — each with nice theming and dedicated signage IIRC.

Kings Island had an event called Island Nights in July 2019, but from what little I could find about it, it only happened on Friday nights in July in Soak City. I could've sworn there were ads in the dry park for it being a big coming-in-2020 summer event, but I've only found two July 2019 Facebook posts with bit.ly links that now redirect to the park's homepage. The WaybackMachine has nothing on it either. It would be nice to see it be a big dry park event in the near future!

There was a plan to hold a summer nights event in 2020. I believe it was going to be in Action Zone. Carowinds did a similar event in 2019 in their Thrill Zone area. However, Covid messed that up and it was originally planned to debut in 2021 instead, it seems as if the park/corporate decided to go in a different direction.

  5. I think Carnivale should get axed mainly bc I don't think KD is doing it bc of their 50th and CGA cut Carnivale at Orleans Place. I think 2025 would be a good year to introduce a new peak summer event at KI (ie Summer Nights/Summerbration). Oktoberfest I would love to see come, but idk if it would work as well as we think bc it would basically be competing with the Cincinnati Oktoberfest. Grad Nites I could get beind (even though part of me would be a bit jealous of those attending bc I never got an event like that when I graduated High School, Dang Covid!)

Plus, the commencement that they filed lists Zamperla but not Vekoma. Not that it means EVERYTHING, but it's not looking good for this rumor. I'd love to see a Big Bear Mountain-esque ride.

The commencement doesn't say 2026 though. It just says 2024 and 2025. The Orion NOC said "2018, 2019, and 2020 additions and modifications." The one filed in 2022 that mentioned B&M/Skyhigh ended up having nothing to do with 2024 as 1) the 2024 investment wasn't a B&M and 2) the NOC didn't say 2024 on it.

I doubt they would cover all 40 acres.  Six Flags Great America is only covering 15 acres of parking lot with their 6.4 megawatt project.

I have the same thought. Covering the whole lot would cost a fortune If KI were to do it, it probably would mainly cover the preferred/handicap/employee parking areas. If we're lucky, maybe the spots down toward the sign as well.

  8. This has sorta been on my mind for a while and I think this is a good discussion to have. In recent years, we have seen a few parks including a few legacy Six Flags parks convert their parking lots into giant solar farms. With the recent merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair and the priority to cut down on certain extra costs, is it possible we could see these solar parking lots make their way to legacy Cedar Fair parks including Kings Island? It wouldn't really be a foreign concept here in the Cincy area as the Cincinnati Zoo has had parking lot solar panels for well over a decade now and it seems to work out great there. Obviously the cost to construct something like this in the KI parking lot would be pretty high. However, long term if it can cut down on energy costs, I think it would be a win win. I want to hear your thoughts on this idea.

  9. Tbh I miss the customized logos for each park on the souvenir bottle showcasing the new attraction for that season. I think 2022 was the last time they did that with the 50th logo on the bottle that year. Also, ngl I miss the large souvenir cups they used to place to the right of the front gate plaza in the spring. I thought they were cool looking and idk why the park got rid of them.

  10. I would be okay with DC making its way to KI if they were to transform the remainder of Planet Snoopy (area not currently Camp Snoopy) into DC Universe. Imo DC comics would be much more recognizing to kids today than Loony Toons.
