Vortex is closed as of now. They don’t know if it will be open tonight or not.
Any update?

If by "Mess it all up", you mean open Diamondback, Banshee and a ton of other coasters and make it much better then okay. Honestly Six Flags taking over these Cedar Fair holiday events would probably be the one actual positive to come from this potential, probably nonexistent deal. Six Flags actually does a very nice job with their lights and decorations too because they don't actually do anything and contract Oak Island Creative to do it for them. lol
I’m pretty sure the manufacturer doesn’t suggest running the rides in such cold conditions, correct me if I’m wrong though.

maybe someone mentioned (didn't look through posts)- note the use of words:
Not a "thanks, but no thanks" but used terms like "inadequate" - and Cedar Fair responded that Six Flags’ bid was too low, (Reuters)
Something tells me this isn't over yet.
Thankfully it said that Six Flags likely wasn’t going to return to the table with a new offer.

Can’t wait to read it, you certainly know your stuff.

Seems like several Cedar Fair board memebers would have been able to keep their jobs in the new theoretical company. (Which was expected)

Racer is the roughest ride in the park depending on where you sit imho, hurt my back quite a bit (I’m guessing I just sat in a bad seat). Some times I get good rides on it but other times it’s just painful.

That's very sad to me. I'd hate to see such a charming park leave the family. I know emotions aren't considered in financial decisions, but to see KI and KD separated would be hard to take for me.
I think it’d be sad if any former Paramount Park left the chain, the improvement these parks have seen is pretty major in some cases. It’d be sad to see a lot of the positive changes be reversed.

It’d be nice if they played Halloween themed music on the train for fall.

Wonder when we’re going to eventually see a statement from either party, hopefully it’s before they release their Q3 earnings report & conference call.
1 minute ago, BeeastFarmer said:I'd add Kings Dominion to that list, just because I love that park so much. haha
I mean Busch Gardens Williamsburg is really the premium park for that market so I feel like a Six Flags model could potentially work out well for that park. If Cedar Fair were wanting to sell a few parks I wouldn’t be surprised if KD was one of the ones up for consideration.

But seriously, how has nothing been confirmed yet?
They’re probably either still in the talks or they’ve been waiting to send out a response. Pretty obvious why they didn’t do that conference today, especially considering how volatile the stock has been.

I know nothing of the topic, but maybe someone here does. Would this cause an issue with becoming a monopoly? The only competitors to a merger like this would be Universal and Disney. They would own over 30 parks in the US.
Nope not at all, in fact even after the merger Disney would still have almost 3x as much attendees then a theoretical merged company. They definitely wouldn’t be preventing other companies from entering the market.

CONFUSED SCREAMING
Guess that pretty much confirms the rumors at least have some truth to them when also taking into account they haven’t made a press release.

I'd honestly love to see Hershey take a swing at another park, I know they aren't really an amusement park centered company, but I love the park. It is so well maintained and the atmosphere is great. Not only this, but Hershey really seems devoted to keeping its classic rides in tip top shape. We've seen Comet getting its crooked lift hill fixed (although I kinda liked it). Sidewinder got new trains. Sooperdooperlooper got new trains and kept with the lapbars. Wildcat got new trains. If you look at then as a whole they haven't removed a coaster in decades. I love that dedication. I hate going to a park with all new rides I love having a wide variety of classics and new rides it enhances the experience. This is part of the reason why I used to love Great Adventure, but in the past decade I have lost faith in the park.
I would LOVE to see this happen, Hershey Park is my 2nd favorite park. They just did so many things well with that place. Great food, great looking park & great rides.

Things can be delayed though. I believe Yukon Striker was delayed a few years. I still believe CGA will eventually get their hyper.
I’m on the same page as you, I wouldn’t be surprised if their hyper is in the same situation Yukon striker is and is already paid for and it’s just postponed. It would also explain the “missing” hyper coaster track letter.

Perhaps they’re looking to buy a few parks but not the entire chain? I personally would see this being all that likely considering Cedar Fair has been acquiring parks so selling a few wouldn’t really make sense. I know that I mentioned this earlier but considering Six Flags visited Kings a Island could they be an indication KI could be one of the parks sold? I don’t see Cedar Fair wanting to give up the 3rd most profitable park in the chain & risking Cedar Point to some serious competition.

I really don’t think this will happen Cedar Fair is to smart to let sixflags take over there big parks
Why would Cedar Fair care who takes them over? If they pay enough money that’s all the shareholders care about.

I know many of you are new here, but as CoastersRZ mentioned above, The Interpreter often mentioned this merger / acquisition, and told us that it was on the horizon for sooner than later. He predicted this long ago, and as for his reasoning, it all makes sense now.
What was his reasoning?
-
Petitions do not work, the people in charge do not care if you don’t want Six Flags to buy the parks. They act for the shareholders, not the guest.

I don’t see it happening to be quite honest, but maybe that’s just me really really hoping they don’t buy Cedar Fair. These past few years have been great for Kings Island and unfortunately I don’t think Six Flags would do a good job running the park.

The more I think about it, I think a B&M flyer would look really cool there! B&M flyers are very picturesque rides. They could have it go close to the midway like most other flying coasters and it would look very cool.
It’d be very cool to have a gaint pretzel loop that reaches the bottom of the valley, probably be very intense & fun.
