Not sure if you're intending to I can see some may view your initial comments as coming off negatively.  If you're not crazy about the Train Q&A or the Banshee Walkback then don't do them.  Not everyone attending coaterstock has the same idea of what is interesting or fun.  Some of us as we get older are becoming true "Park Enthusiasts" as opposed to "Coaster Enthusiasts" :).  I think Don and his team do the best they can and you should consider that there may be other factors driving decisions that are being made.  Frankly, I would trade ERT for FOF over AV in a heartbeat.  Especially considering the line for AV is never nearly as long as FOF.

Early in the season when training is going on sometimes they forget to turn off the lights on FOF.  When it comes to running the ride in a safe manner, turning off the lights is probably pretty low on the list and I can understand it getting missed.  I've seen it with the lights on early season as well and believe it's just a step they forgot to take when preparing the ride for the day.

It's ok to express your opinion but to do so before the event is not even giving the event a chance.  Afterward would also be the time to suggest things for next year as opposed to 2 weeks before the event when nothing can be done to change what has already been planned.

Remember coasterstock wouldn't happen without Don and his team.  Personally I didn't think Don owes you or anyone else an explanation at all and you are correct to thank him .  His work and commitment to park enthusiasts is more than is seen at other parks in the country and we are lucky to have him and his crew.

I do not know why you are saying I do not care about Train Q&A or Banshee walkback or how my post could be negative at all. You are just trying to twist my words and put words in my mouth. I said I would prefer any and all walkbacks, Q%A's, photo/video Opportunities to not being during coaster ERT. This is Coasterstock after all. We are here first and foremost for getting extra ride time on coasters outside of park normal operating hours. Everything else ideally should be during normal operating hours when the park gets busy. It gives us things to do instead of standing in long lines.

I do not know why you think discussing opinions about the event 2 weeks before is not okay. Especially when one has attended before and sorta knows what to expect. 2 weeks is plenty of time to adjust and alter the schedule and maybe add things like the overlooked Adventure Express that you and Indyguy do not seem to care about. It is the 30th after all and the park spent all that time and money to fix all the old effects that were not working for 2019.

Also in regards to your park enthusiasts vs coaster enthusiasts Why is one better than the other. What is wrong with being a coaster enthusiast? Is that not why we buy tickets to things like Coasterstock? Would not my statement about caring about park history and riding everything old and quirky aka dark rides and log flumes qualify me as your so called higher tier park enthusiast anyways?

I said the schedule is a good one in my first post and in my second I thanked Don for addressing every point except one. So how am I being negative? I just do not see it. Indy guys "You just can not please everybody" was aimed at me and that was not really nice or fair either.

The Train Photo Opportunity and Q&A was done this way so attendees can come and go at their leisure, have an opportunity to capture better photos, have more of conversation with the engineers and conductors, and just overall to make it a better experience for those interested in the story behind our steam trains.

Having the Banshee backstage photo opportunity during the ERT session allows attendees to come and go at their leisure and offered us the chance to fit in two additional activities after the park opened, starting with the chance for everyone to ride the Grand Carousel together and to offer a book signing with Evan Ponstingle, author of Kings Island: A Ride Through Time. Now you may not care about a ride on the Grand Carousel, but for many of the attendees it's something they're going to enjoy doing together as a group.

I'm the one who thought Flight of Fear ERT at night was a great idea. It's located next to Orion, near The Racer and falls within the footprint of where the night time ERT rides are located, which is Coney Mall, Area 72 and Rivertown. There are two different experiences being offered on Flight of Fear. One night it's lights on, the next night it's lights off.

Where is the tour of the spaghetti bowl and Haunt maze walkthroughs? While things are getting back to normal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we're not there yet with being able to have a group of this size together in an indoor facility.

In developing the itinerary for this event, it's always done with what the majority of the attendees would enjoy in mind.

I want to thank Don for replying to my comment and for addressing all my points except Adventure Express. I honestly did not think of covid being the reason for no indoor walkthroughs. Since Dewine choose to end all restrictions a couple weeks ago I sometimes forget things are not completely back to pre covid conditions. We are close but not quite there. At least in Ohio we are.

Lights on for Flight of Fear a unique experience and something everybody should do. However early in this season the ride was running with all lights on for some reason anyways. I have no idea why. I would probably do it again if it was morning ERT but I really love my night rides more than anything else so I will probably run around and ride everything outside. Maybe even ride Antique cars for the first time.

I absolutely do care about things like Grand Carousel. I love riding old rides and celebrating and learning the history of them. Every time I walk into a park I have never been to I try to ride every log flume, dark ride, fun house, skyride etc. Everything old and quirky and rare I love to try and ride at least once. The exception is  some spinny flat rides make me dizzy and I tend to avoid those.

Some things to note here. I am not crazy about how the Train Q&A and our Banshee walkback is during morning ERT. Where is the love for Adventure Express? No ERT at all? I would love some 30th anniversary rides with all the effects running at night for ERT.  Who thought Flight of Fear night ERT was a great idea and where is the tour of the spaghetti bowl? ERT on that should be during the day because well the ride is indoors. Why would I ever want to ride it at night? There is no Haunt house walk through either. 2 years ago we had a lights on walk through Slaughterhouse. A lights on walk through of Kill Mart would be so amazing. But overall good itinerary.

Here is my review of the cinnamon bread from my PTR: We decided to get some of the cinnamon bread that is at French Corner. I would give it a 4 out of 5. I am not sure how long it had been sitting, but it was a little dry. It really could have been a little more buttery for my taste. Still a great treat offering at the park and would recommend you try it.

If it is anything like Dollywood cinnamon bread it completely sucks when it sits too long and gets cold. Eat it fresh and hot or not at all. I am guessing hardly anybody knows it is there and maybe it even needs to be elsewhere. I just hope it isn't a sign of a canceled Winterfest.

They added the footprints 2 years ago as part of the 45th anniversary celebration.
I think it’s fine that they removed them, as they either needed to repaint them or remove them.

The ones on the pavers are in better shape… although they don’t look like they were repainted. So I guess we’ll see if they remove those eventually or how long they last on the pavers.

I think it’s a nice theming element… but I also respect the park knowing when the upkeep isn’t worth it and removing them.

I was just observing and sharing that I noticed the change today. This is that the paver prints look like today. 1dd7fc6cc660817d4ac00989bb3b803d.jpg

The Beast opened in 1979 last time I checked and since the park opened in 1972 I can't figure out what 45th anniversary you are referring to? The Beast was celebrating 40 years in 2019 when they brought the foot prints back.

I'd love a 1300-2200 operating day at KI.

I think the vast majority of people who "vow to never come back" will be back.  And the ones who don't will make an entirely more pleasant experience for the rest who do.

I am also of the mind that a steep rise in price of a gold/platinum pass, meal plan and drink plan is in order.  You may see a decreased volume of passes sold, but an increase in loyalty from a better experience.

Look at Disney to see what an increase in pass and add ons do. It just keeps the people out who can not afford it. Sure it leaves a lot of the low income and riff raff out but according to some nasty facebook and reddit arguments I see those people deserve to get to go just as much as anyone else. So other than increasing prices slowly to adjust for inflation I do not know what the right answer is.

No it is not, the delta variant will cause serious damage and has resistance to the vaccines, and factor in a huge chunk of the US who won’t get vaccinated and we’ll see spikes again.

As I said, up here this is not the US, this is CANADA and we have a socialist health care system. If someone decides to go to an amusement park and gets sick, jams up the hospitals, then it is very much my problem as a taxpayer and a citizen.

Seeing your condescending attitude makes me want to contact my local member of parliament and demand the border be closed longer as you can’t seem to grasp the severity of this.

At this point anybody that does not get a vaccine it is on them. Right or wrong it is their choice and so is any effects like catching Covid.

And what is more important, dealing with the current pandemic or your desires of gratification to ride a roller coaster.

The pandemic is pretty much over. All the restrictions have been lifted in this state and many other. Should be the same in Canada but it isn't. Most of it was just the media trying to spread fear anyways. At this point everybody just needs to get over this stuff and live their lives. Keeping things shut is doing more harm than good.

Also in regards to dealing with a "pandemic" it should be my right as an American to choose which one is more important. Should be my right whether or not to wear a mask and most of those were taken away in 2020. When things started opening up in June 2020 I started traveling and went to the amusement parks that were opening. You only live once so enjoy it.

I also thought KIC members were over this whole debate and I think if they were not they were advised to not let it be known or stir the pot anymore. Since you think we all should still live in a cave with bubble wrap and you look down from your ivory tower at anyone actually enjoying life, I advise you pack up and leave this forum. The whole Covid is so bad we need to stay home and wear masks and live in fear thing was beat to death a year ago.

I find it mildly offensive that you practically ignored what I had to say.

if the border was “open”, than I would say it is “open” for non essential travelers.

For those being optimistic, let me remind you of the current situation in Canada. Anyone who enters Canada who isn’t an essential worker MUST quarantine for 14 days, failure to abide by this can lead to a fine of up to $750,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 6 months.

Canada Quarantine Act from Government of Canada

The fact this still stands means that you can kiss your dreams of coming across the border away this summer. And as I said, Canadians for the most part actually want this border to remain closed to Americans as they see them as being incredibly irresponsible in the handling of the virus, with having the highest case and death rate in the world. Public polling suggests that only about 1 in 3 Canadians support reopening the border at this point.

To compare two similar sized jurisdictions, Ontario has had around 9,000 deaths so far while Ohio has had over 20,000 deaths

I am but one person, who does not agree with this, but the fact a change.org petition is this strong tells you something.

    Keep the border closed

I have no idea why you are so offended or what I even ignored. My last quote was not quoting you. It was someone in these here King's Island forums telling us to get our reservations in quick because they are filling up fast. Last I checked King's Island is in Ohio which is in the good old USA which is below your closed border. Which you seem to think is beneath you and the cause of Covid and all your problems. It is time you get off you high horse. I paid for a platinum in 2019 and I can not use it for one of the parks I bought it for.

  10. Indiana Beach uses outside vendors for most food stands and shops so they do not really have to make sure there is enough staff on hand for that. It can go to other areas like rides. Maybe this is why I thought the food in park was terrible and maybe not. I just walk across the bridge then across the parking lot, cross the road and eat and have drinks at a really yummy place called Wine and Whiskey Saloon.

Not sure if it’s random, or you’re crazy, or both. :D

I have always been under the assumption that they’re rotated in a manner that doesn’t cause uneven wear on one particular train or set of trains. This would be a great question for someone to ask at Coasterstock.

Don was asked this very question at Coasterstock 2019 and your answer is pretty much the one he gave. They keep track of the "miles" run on each side and try to keep it as even as they can.

^ I am both.  If things were "normal" and my favorite KI things were cancelled, I would be upset.  But things continue to be un-normal and will be for quite some time.  I have down graded to gold for a few years now.  Between '20 and '21, I have 12 visits in, and I normally do around 14 in a year.  So in 2 visits, everything will be what I normally pay for.  After that, everything is a bonus.  KI has provided a huge value for my investment since 2014, they need all the support they can get because of '20 and '21.  So I am pro company which is doing the best they can do to be pro customer.

The 0100 closures were addressed pre-Covid.  Yeah, it sucks, but corporations have to be good neighbors.

You and others have complained about the family friendly Haunt event for a while now.  If they don't have enough employees/monsters etc, and it is packed as it normally is with decreased staff, you would complain even more..

You complain about just everything the park does or does not do.  While my post was satirical about you being put in charge of staffing, your post reminds me of complainers never having solutions to their complaints.  As a previous  poster said, there are plenty of other parks to shop around at.  If you are that unhappy with KI, you have plenty of time to research.

    Karen, heal thyself.

I am no Karen nor do I complain about everything. I do not like the insults either and I hope I never have to meet people like you face to face. I used to think this forum was better than that but it really has not been much better than a toxic facebook group ever since this Covid started last year. You are basically saying things would be better in the forum without my posts and I have had others tell me otherwise so it can not be both ways. You are saying I am unwelcome and that is okay. I am also not GP so I do not need to go and do "research" as you suggest. I know which parks are treating customers better than Cedar Fair this year and which are not.

You also say you are gold and since I am platinum that means we should have completely different expectations on weather Cedar Fair is doing things right or wrong. I go to Cedar Point normally several times a year as well as King's Island and go to their Haunt too. Are 2020 access passes okay? How about the tues and wed closes this year causing the park to be overcrowded on the other 5 days? Or the fact the 2 days off causes King's Island to be packed like crazy on what is normally slow days. How about the fact that when Cedar Point runs out of reservations those guests turn to King's Island again making it fuller than it would be in 2019? Is that okay too? When I purchased my Cedar Fair platinum for 2020 I expected a 2020 Winterfest and did not get it. I planned on visiting King's Dominion for the first time in 2020 and could not. I am within 8 hours of Canada's Wonderland and wanted to visit that park for the first time. Should Cedar Fair just blame the government and do nothing about that or are there things they could have done? They might have been able to sue to open as they did in Ohio. Since I do not live in Canada I do not know how well that would work. Another option would have been refunds for all platinum holders. Another option would be to exclude Canada's Wonderland from Platinum for the foreseeable future.

Go ask Trudeau, he has no intentions to eliminate the restrictions anytime soon.

Even if restrictions were lifted, you’d probably face a lot of hostilities on the road as Canadians are still angry at Americans about the virus for the most part. I am not, but I realize I am a minority in this country.

Why is Covid American's fault? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

  14. 1 hour ago, BeeastFarmer said:

I nominate you to be placed in charge of finding  way to get all the dry parks and water parks up to 120% staffing levels without putting the company under because of increased labor costs so that the parks can be open every day and until 10, midnite and 0100 as before.

But that means you also have to be in charge of neighbor relations at KI who are currently enjoying quiet evenings without Diamondback roaring thru their bedrooms!

It just sounds like you are pro corporation and not pro customer. Those Neighbors are likely not King's Island customers either. The guest should always be put first. Not The neighbors, or the Karens or the suits or the stockholders.

  15. Haunt and 1am closes are one of the reasons why I renewed my pass summer 2019. 2 summers without it would just add another good reason to not renew for 2022 and get a season pass elsewhere. There are many other chains and small parks that have not cut hours and days after posting the 2021 calendar and have added days and hours instead .It was known months before Cedar Fair opened their parks how busy this spring and summer would be and yet they opened later than a lot of others and continued to cut days, hours and advertised things like fireworks. A lot of parks also are either not requiring reservations or IE Hershey had a system in place where every passholder automatically got a reservation for any day and now they recently announced reservations are not needed for anybody.

Crowds are on the thin side for a Saturday, probably heat and inability to just jump over to Soak City to cool off is a deterrent to many.

They knew @King Ding Dong wasn't there today, so they opened that Freestyle:P

In a normal year the dry park is pretty dead on a hot day like this. Everybody goes to the waterpark. Even summer 2019 I got a walk on on Beast at like 2pm  on July 4th. It did not get busy until about 8pm when the waterpark closed. Holiday World does not do waterpark reservations and this very same thing happened on June 4th this year. I got 5 rides on Voyage before the water park closed.

  17. This is sad but I completely understand. For example Pointbuzz is darn near dead yet the Cedar Point reddit is alive and doing well. I'm sure there are facebook groups too but they usually get toxic so I don't bother. The exception to the rule so far seems to be this very site. King's Island has a reddit too but it does not seem to be very active.
