Wonderland Sydney To Cease Trading 16/02/04 It is with great sadness that the decision has been taken to close Wonderland Sydney. It is our intention to cease trading on April 26, 2004. The decision was taken in view of consistent losses incurred and difficult market conditions. The challenges faced by the tourism/leisure industry over the past few years… the Asian financial crisis, Sept 11, Ansett collapse, War on Iraq, HIH collapse and the skyrocketing insurance premiums, the Bali terrorist attack, the devastating bush fires, SARS and now the Asian bird flu have simply taken their toll. Mr Stephen Galbraith, CEO Leisure Theme Parks Sunway Group said today, “When we took over eight years ago, the park’s future was uncertain. Since then, we have lifted the overall performance of the park, completely rebuilt its image and brand awarenessâ€. Our efforts were recognised with Wonderland Sydney achieving the major attraction award for Business excellence at the 2002 Tourism NSW Awards and runner up in 2003. Recognition by IAAPA- International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions yielded two “Brass Ring“ awards for outstanding marketing. However all this has simply not been enough to sustain the operation. The first priority is our staff. All appropriate leave entitlements under their respective awards and agreements will be honoured. Wonderland Sydney will also provide a range of initiatives to assist and support staff in finding new employment. So do you think Paramount Parks will get the old rides back or copy of the old rides that still work. I would love to see The Zodic and The Bayern Curve back in the park.

Is their any way you can post that picture of the Bayern Curve? I loved that ride, now that area of the park only has one ride or two rides depends on who you talk too.

Just keep a eye out on Yahoo auctions and e-bay from time to time. I know what you are talking about I whated to buy them when I was growing up but my grandma would not let me. She gave me old Coney Island ones when I got home. To bad I don't have them anymore.

PARAMOUNT'S GREAT AMERICA has just renamed their water park to Crocodile Dundee's Boomerang Bay. Could the same be on the way for Paramount's Kings Island Boomerang Bay???

Well seeing that PKI just put a new train on last season for Top Gun I don't think the ride is going any where soon. Yes the Theme could be fixed up and cleaned. I rode it the last day the park was open and it was going faster then It has before when I rode Top Gun.

Thank you for those nice words. I was one of the two camera people in the studio that day on his last show for Mr. Dick Von Hoene. Alot of people know him as the "Cool Ghool" in this area. We at ICN 6 are still in shock that this has happend. Mr. Dick Von Hoene will be missed very much.

Yea I saw the TV ad I hate when they show rides that are not in the park.

Having a Casino at PKI is a bad idea. The people at Kings Island should know this from Coney Island having a Casino and race track in the 20s. They got in trouble with the law and made them take it out. Plus to many kids would go in and thats good for the park image.

I miss alot of old rides at Kings Island just wish I could have rode The Bat when it was running. I was in line and it broke down well the people on the coaster got 5 free rides out of it that day. The thing would not stop. I miss ridding the coaster with just a safty bar and not lap bar on The Beast and Racers. Now I have to ride The Beastie to just get the safty bar. The Jetsons movie is in developing at Warner but there is no director or cast at the moment. It going to take a while unless they get a director and a cast.

Hello, I was wondering if the PKI managment will use the H-B character at all this season. Scooby is given, I know that but what about Yogi, Cindy, Boo, and Fred. I saw George Jetson in the picinic grounds for a special event but that it. P.S. Can someone rent one of the H-B costume for a day?

For those who are wondering why Bob The Builder is not in the park. Bob is owned by HIT Entertainment, not viacom. Little Bill on the hand, is owned by Viacom. Paramont Parks mostly proably didn't want to pay the licensing fees for the charcater to appear in the parks. Nicks still appear in the Universal Studio theme park in Hollywood and Orlando. I was done in December, I saw Tommy, Chuckie, and SpongeBob Squarepants. P.S. Kings Island need a walk around of Mighty Mouse.

One of those building is where they stored things for the park I think I was told at one time but I was 10 at the time. Sorry I can not be that much of help.
