  1. lol stremmefan, must you post everything in all caps? Seriously.
  2. and adorable monorail layout! Traindriver, I'm going home to Cincinnati this weekend for a photo assignment, I'll stop by Jungle Jims and see if they've done anything on the monorail and if I get time; dig through my old model railroad stuff to see if I have anything I can send you to help with the layout.
  3. Vortex, you just made my day even better, thanks for sharing this.
  4. Maybe you should before posting, out of consideration to everyone.
  5. Actually it does mean something, the trim brakes are not adjusted during the day, just because you think you "feel" it, doesn't make it so. Both Deloreanrider and I have first hand experience to be able to confidently say that the magnetic trim brakes are not adjusted throughout the day. How your ride "feels" can depend on many factors, however this is not one of them, you are wrong, sorry.
  6. Delorean Rider was supervisor there this past summer.
  7. Both Delorean Rider and I have a lot of experience working that ride and riding it during early morning ERT's and all throughout the season. The employees do not tell guests that the trims are adjusted throughout the day, and if they do, they are wrong.
  8. Who are "them"? It may feel slower at other spots, but your feeling of ride can depend on temprature, weather, and even where you sit. The trims are not adjusted throughout the day.
  9. Dalefan, I can guarantee you, that the trim levels are not adjusted throughout the day. As coastersRZ pointed out, the only way to adjust how much a trim slows down a train is by removing sections of it like they do at the beginning of the season, they are not adjusted throughout the day at different levels.
  10. If you know how the blocks are set up then please enlighten everyone else, since i already know, as to how they were set up before the accident and after. Just because the Cincinnati Enquirer reports it one way, does not mean thats exactly what happened. The media is not always correct (Anyone remember WKRC's "Son of Beast fire" reporting?) The skid brakes were at the rear of the brake run right where the train come up from exiting the helix, that train bumped into the train on the "ready" block ahead of it as it was being moved into the station.
  11. Actually, I don't think you can speak for "everyone" because you obviously don't know what happened yourself. The Beast features 2 seperate blocks on it's brake shed and one in its station, the skid brakes, wet with rain, failed to slow down the train enough and allowed it to slide into the block ahead of it causing the collision. Blocks on coasters have fail safes, but the block system can fail. After the incident and the addition of the magnetic trim brakes, The Beast received a re-designed block system. It does have a trim brake there, as you descend into the double helix.
  12. Since when is there ever a time that The Racer is running that the trim is not in use? I have only experienced this once in the past number of seasons. -The majority of the time these trim brakes are not use. They were added back when The Racer's lacked head rests, still had buzz bars, and had two wooden beams running on the chassis of the car. Even back when the cars were this way the trim brakes were only used during the regular season till the end, as The Racer often requires the use of a 2nd chain to help it along its course when the fresh grease on its wheels is still getting broken in at the beginning of the season. This chain is located on the last hill before the split. When the trains were retrofitted with head rests and individual lap bars they were also given a steel beam to hold the brake fin in favor of the original wooden beam on car's chassis. These factors added a significant amount of weight but The Racer still requires the 2nd chain on the hills before the split and seldom has its old compressed air trim brakes on. -Yes and they were removed in favor of what the park felt were much safer brakes after an accident, hence why everyone has shot down the suggestion. -The station brakes were not replaced, and the collision did not take place in the station. The Beast still has the same type of station brakes it always has had. The skids were the reason for the accident, hence why they were removed and replaced with magnetic brakes. -It does not brake more and more every season, and the rain has less of an effect than you think, which is why the magnetic brakes were added. No matter how slick the track is, the magnetic brakes stop it at the same speed, this was the problem with the skid brakes, they could be affected more so by the rain. There was an incident due to these conditions and then the skid brakes were removed. As Elmer and AZ said, Beast runs fine, Beast is great, brakes wont change.
  13. That is a regular brake running on compressed air like the ones in The Beast station and Beast ready brakes before the station, and it's hardly ever used, if at all anymore.
  14. Where is there a magnetic racer trim brake?
  15. lol better than Six Flags? I don't know, there are a few Six Flags parks that are very, very nice. -Gordon Bombay, who looks forward to going to SFOG in the spring and SFGADV in the summer.
  16. The magnetic brakes still slow the ride down to the same speeds that the skid brakes did. Beast is still a great ride and has gotten along fine with the current trim brakes for many seasons now. Keeps maintenance costs down, keeps The Beast running great, I doubt anything changes for 08.
  17. Oh man, I know what you mean, the restraints on skyhawk are very, very interesting.
  18. -Thanks, we got the moderating under control. -Speaking also as someone who lost family friends on 9/11 and almost lost my own father on that day, I in no way see how the Interpreter should lighten up, in fact, I think you should show a little more respect to those of us who lost people that day and remember it VERY vividly. Maybe instead of telling people to "lighten up" you should be a little more respectful. -You know, thats funny, I was just there in December and the place was crawling with security, mostly private organizations sporting .357 revolvers.[ -No one's playing policeman, Boddah asked an honest question, a question that protects this websites agreements and excellent relationship with the park, considering you don't know the property lines of the park or any other complete circumstances of dare-to-fly's situation, you also are in no position to point out guilt or innocene. -There are plenty of discussions about that on here if you take a look around. We, the moderators, get to decide what can and can't be discussed, so far it has been seen fit by multiple moderators and administrators that this topic stay open, therefore it shall.
  19. House, I'd really start listening to anymore warnings given to you by a moderator or admin, and yes brown is a prize, its a real treat having him on these forums as he is a respected member who constantly posts excellent information and contributes conversation. Back to the topic at hand...
  20. And I wish I could learn, but obviously. but obviously you don't listen when others have tried to help you.
  21. Guess the coaster's designers never went to engineering school. Wow, he's not saying that at all. Care to blow his statement out of proportion any more? Nah, I was fine with it until Mr. Delorean made his hateful post. Even your post was good natured. You and I have joked back and forth many times about similar things. Delorean's statements were not only ill mannered but simply rude. -Ok, sure Delorean's comments were rude, but what does that have to do with discodude? Ok, discodude never claimed they were not competent or bright, he didn't say he knew the issues, he said he knew how to calculate the banking in a situation such as designing a coaster. He was in no way put down the designers of the ride.

  23. Well said JZ, the general public is pretty much oblivious to this "common" enthusiast news. While at Firehawk this year, multiple times I heard..... "They got a similar ride up at that there Six Flags and Sea World up north".
  24. I wonder if she video tapes the other elephants to keep above any competition. Go Giants.
