  1. Yikes. "Negative media attention in California" is putting it lightly. I'm curious to see if the decline in attendance/revenue was greater at the Sea World parks compared to the other branded parks. I know they have the numbers but wouldn't publish it - unless I missed it in the press release. Are people boycotting the entire brand? Or just the specific Sea World branded parks?

$50 million is a lot to cut while still trying to grow and change. I've seen it in much smaller organizations and those are challenging times indeed. The biggest challenge is making sure it doesn't negatively impact your guest experience to a point where the negative attention grows to a point where your brand and image continues to sink further. It will be interesting to see how these cuts play through.

If they had addressed Blackfish immediately - showing their side and explaining more about their conservation process - would it have made an impact? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Are there similar stories out there for other parks or zoos that have addressed similar situations?

A neutral documentary should have been made...by neutral I mean discussing the pros and cons of captivity cause both do exist. Blackfish was made only to bash SeaWorld, there was no real education in it and of course general public bought all that propaganda.

  2. SeaWorld certainly had their foot in mouth moments...personally not a fan of their CEO though.

Off topic...I'm glad the Japanese aquariums have come out and said it, they realized they need to do something with their captive killer whales so they have turned to SeaWorld for help. Better SeaWorld helping out than having to do more captures... For being so technology savvy, the Japanese are 30 years behind when it comes to orca care.

  3. ^Then may I suggest Wilmington as well to look around too? It's not too bad since it isn't crime ridden like a lot of Cincy areas. There are a handful of KI associates I do know of from here as well as one at where I work currently that's from Wilmington.

  4. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I guess another good question to ask would be what, if any, neighborhoods should I stay away from? Are there any bad ones you don't want to find yourself in?

There are quite a few places sadly actually...Mt Healthy ( where I am from originally) is one

  5. The only change in the theming was in the queue video. There was a mention of the words Outer Limits at the end of the video before the UFO warped away. It was edited out when the Outer Limits portion was dropped from the name.

Do they even still play the video at all? Last time I rode the coaster (yeah...first couple weeks of the 2014 season) the video wasn't even working.

  6. I'm really excited about the new Starbucks. This is actually a very nostalgic addition to Kings Island.

    Starbucks nostalgic? Really??

On another note.....some of you are hard to please.

Flying Scooters are the only thing nostalgic I find about the announcement. Personally I was kind of hoping for something relating to the Inn more than anything but I always felt the scooters were inevitable cause of Knott's and CP getting them recently. I guess its future got more bleak (for the Inn I mean)... :/

  7. From what I've read/heard, Saturday was a very busy day for amusement parks in general. There were reports of large crowds and long lines at many parks - Kings Dominion, Kings Island, Cedar Point, Six Flags Great America, Canada's Wonderland... I'm guessing a large part of that is due to the fact that it was the last Saturday before Halloween.

Knott's been insane too the last couple Saturdays. Most recent one I needed a "body guard" to protect me from drunk guests o_o y'all would not have liked Xcelerator's line...slow loader, one train operation, Saturday Haunt night crowds...yeah it was not pretty. Of course I dunno exactly how long the line was since I don't waste my time on the coasters during Haunt but most of the mazes had nearly 2 hour waits so there's that.

  8. I'll have to ride T3 to find out what it's like, I suppose.

I'll ride any coaster once, no matter their reputation (assuming of course that their reputation doesn't involve frequent safety-related incidents). Including SLCs and Zamperla flyers. That said, there is currently only one coaster on my list of rides that I refuse to ever ride again, and Terp has explicitly stated that T2 was worse than that specific one...

I really hope the new train(s) can help... I'm going to go into it cautiously optimistic that they will, to some extent. They should at least eliminate the headbanging, which is one of the many unenjoyable aspects of an SLC. And for a guy whose favorite coaster is Vortex to say that he had an issue with headbanging, that says a lot about these infernal contraptions...

For what its worth, my list of rides that I refuse to ever ride again currently consists only of that one particular SLC, and all droppy rides that are not an S&S Space Shot.

Different kind/manufacturer I know, but I wonder if it is any worse than the piece of garbage taxi coaster in Vegas.

  9. Not saying the hot weather is not going to change a persons mood, but the year round parks are in a hot climate almost every day!

Not really. The SoCal parks see 50 degree weather during our "winter" months and lots of rain generally. When I was at the Merry Farm people were bundled up in heavy winter coats, lol... and see the dopey people sit in front row at Shamu at SWC but usually nearly all of them just end up running for the dry zone anyway the moment the whales come out. Already wet from the downpour of rain what difference is the 55 degree salt water gonna make? XD

Unless you are talking about Florida and even then it isn't truly hot and humid year round.
