  1. From what I've read/heard, Saturday was a very busy day for amusement parks in general. There were reports of large crowds and long lines at many parks - Kings Dominion, Kings Island, Cedar Point, Six Flags Great America, Canada's Wonderland... I'm guessing a large part of that is due to the fact that it was the last Saturday before Halloween.

Knott's been insane too the last couple Saturdays. Most recent one I needed a "body guard" to protect me from drunk guests o_o y'all would not have liked Xcelerator's line...slow loader, one train operation, Saturday Haunt night crowds...yeah it was not pretty. Of course I dunno exactly how long the line was since I don't waste my time on the coasters during Haunt but most of the mazes had nearly 2 hour waits so there's that.

  2. I'll have to ride T3 to find out what it's like, I suppose.

I'll ride any coaster once, no matter their reputation (assuming of course that their reputation doesn't involve frequent safety-related incidents). Including SLCs and Zamperla flyers. That said, there is currently only one coaster on my list of rides that I refuse to ever ride again, and Terp has explicitly stated that T2 was worse than that specific one...

I really hope the new train(s) can help... I'm going to go into it cautiously optimistic that they will, to some extent. They should at least eliminate the headbanging, which is one of the many unenjoyable aspects of an SLC. And for a guy whose favorite coaster is Vortex to say that he had an issue with headbanging, that says a lot about these infernal contraptions...

For what its worth, my list of rides that I refuse to ever ride again currently consists only of that one particular SLC, and all droppy rides that are not an S&S Space Shot.

Different kind/manufacturer I know, but I wonder if it is any worse than the piece of garbage taxi coaster in Vegas.

  3. Not saying the hot weather is not going to change a persons mood, but the year round parks are in a hot climate almost every day!

Not really. The SoCal parks see 50 degree weather during our "winter" months and lots of rain generally. When I was at the Merry Farm people were bundled up in heavy winter coats, lol... and see the dopey people sit in front row at Shamu at SWC but usually nearly all of them just end up running for the dry zone anyway the moment the whales come out. Already wet from the downpour of rain what difference is the 55 degree salt water gonna make? XD

Unless you are talking about Florida and even then it isn't truly hot and humid year round.

  4. For me all of KI's mazes are tame. But then again I am hard to scare...I startle at least twice a year, if I am lucky, and most of the time it isn't even noticeable I been startled at all apparently.

I have a feeling Knott's will change things for me though when I go back cause I am not looking forward to Tooth Fairy. From what I seen so far already creeps me out and I hate dentists.

  5. I've been a fan of cheesy horror movies from before I started school (my mom and I used to watch them together when my sister was at school). Halloween was tied with Christmas as my favorite holiday in my childhood.

However, following September 11th, I lost my taste for it for quite some time. Seeing real horror took away my ability to enjoy pretend horror. I'm back to enjoying Halloween again these past few years, and watching way too many horror movies in October.

My point is, though, I think most people who enjoy horror probably wouldn't want to see any of it actually happen. So it doesn't ask very much to have a little sensitivity and not do things that trigger people's memories of very real, recent, horrors.

Obviously, everyone is going to have their own personal triggers, and it is up to them to decide if going to a horror event is for them. When it is something so publicized, like the beheadings, though, it's fair to avoid things that reference it, at least for now. It's not as though there aren't fifty-billion other ways to depict death, gore, and creepiness.

I'm definitely an oddball. I can and will watch most horror movies unless it involves a cat or a dog in someway then I won't touch it with a ten foot poll (unless the movie is something like Cat's Eye where the cat was mostly the hero). o_o

  6. Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own.

This is part of the reason why I plaster a watermark on all my cetacean photos. This and plus my photos were also victim to the media plastering them all over TV right after the 2010 incident in Orlando.

I love the documentary about the orcas and great white sharks. Jaws was inaccurate in that sense, sharks don't typically go out of their way to mess with a pod of orcas (unless it is a sick/old individual all alone that is about to die anyway), orcas on the other hand....will go after great whites.

  7. Show video of an Orca striking and killing a dolphin or sea lion. Show what makes Orcas more frightening than a shark. Orcas are cool. But I mean no one relates the Orcas in the Happy Feet movies with the same ones in Sea World.

Funny thing SeaWorld will (or they did once upon a time) show wild orcas snatching up on sea lions on some of their educational videos however they never went into excruciating detail beyond that. I think SeaWorld always could go into more detail when they talk about orcas, I felt (still do) the Shamu Story shows were a positive route with the whales as it was a nice break from in water ballet performance that Believe was, and One Ocean is only slightly better than Believe. Believe was when SeaWorld really began to do more entertainment than education with the whales, personally I was never a fan for that show actually... shows before that were more educational. Heck, I remember Cedar Point's dolphin shows being fairly educational compared to KI. So yeah, Shamu Story, Beluga Story and Sea Lion Story are all welcome presentations. Irritating for me that people now act like they want educational when for the longest time they probably would have snored at such shows. Shows themselves continue on the whales own schedules, not the trainers if they don't want to do a show then oh well lol... trainers just give speeches. You can not force an animal that weighs over a ton what to do. I seen it happen at least once every time I go to their parks, orcas themselves run the show, the trainers do not and they the trainers know this very well.

But yeah, I never disagreed with the fact SeaWorld needs to push harder in the educational aspect, they are after all considered the experts of not only orca care in the zoological community but when it comes to just about marine mammal. It's SeaWorld facilities like Marineland France, Loro Parque and even Kamogawa SeaWorld in Japan as well as the many zoos up along the east and west coast of our country turn to in case of emergencies and/or dealing with rescues/strandings.

  8. Still don't change the fact they rip 5 year old (or older) footage off saying it is "new and ground breaking evidence".

The one person I know who granted the OK to use her footage (footage of Kohana at Loro Parque interacting at the glass with some patrons) said they could only as long as she was credited. What happened? No credit and they manipulated it by dubbing orca vocals on top of the footage saying she was making distress calls. (they weren't even Kohana's own calls to begin with but then again she was portrayed as Tilli in the film as well)

  9. I had difficulty appreciating the quality of the film due to the many clips that came from outlets like You Tube. If you look, it's clip-interview-clip-interview, etc.. As a documentary, it's not truly informative, and it's not even up to par with Discovery channel. It's just inflammatory and appeals to head nodders. Why would I look further into the matter if it were truly informative? It would have

You are correct. Majority of the footage they even used for the docufiction was ripped off loyal patrons like myself (a lot of it was very close friends of mine) for it without consent. Even better... a lot of the "Tillikum" footage isn't even Tillikum at all. *rolls eyes* A lot of that material could be found on the net 5+ years before Blackfish even existed.

  10. It reminds me of the show they used to have at KI when I was a kid. Which makes sense, because the news this season suggests KK seems to be stuck in that time period in a lot of ways.

It worries me that KK has a live animal show at all.

I guess for some places it is cheaper to just basically rent the seals/sea lions from an outside source, I doubt Ed would like how expensive pinniped upkeep is so I won't be shocked someone else owns them like it is with Hershey and back when KI and sister parks did have the shows (KI, KD and CW never actually owned the phins and sea lions).

Edit: I was right, they belong to Squalus Inc., same company Hershey worked with when they had the Patagonian sea lions.

  11. Can't watch on my phone but I'll definitely be watching this tomorrow (or later today rather).

Oddly enough, I want to visit KK primarily for them. I'd really be interested in what their back pools look like (if there is any at all...). These guys deserve to have a pool where they can have their rocks etc just as much as cetaceans do and there are some places (like Hershey Park from what I saw last) who have not grasped that concept yet and the pinnipeds are still left with completely barren tanks. They do A LOT of sleeping by nature so they lay on rocks and/or beaches. I like the exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo, LOVE the Indy Zoo's, SeaWorld Orlando has a gorgeous one, of the 3 parks San Antonio needs the most work as far as space is concerned so I am glad that SW included them in their expansion/revamp plans.

  12. ^^ That article is buried behind a premium content paywall, so I can't read it. I can, however, read this story about SeaWorld ending its appeals of the OSHA restrictions against trainers' interactions with killer whales. I wonder what message that move sends.

Just to clarify, this is about the water works in the SHOWS. Waterworks where it concerns for vet care continues which is more important anyway.

I kind of side with Terpy...there have been times where I feel like SeaWorld was better off keeping quiet.
