It is really good. That might be the only thing I will be splurging on at GC.
Or you can get the Big Pretzel at the Brewhouse. Costs a bit more, but you get much more bang for your buck.

I agree on the inconsistency part. From what I gather visiting other parks within the chain it’s not only a KI issue, but a Chain-wide issue.
I’ll have to give the beer cheese a try sometime.
For real it’s my favorite beer cheese!

The CF/Paramount season pass integration was clumsy for a while and that was only five parks (and their admissions system, because CF was still using an ancient setup and Paramount's Gate Central was adopted chainwide), but for the number of additional parks here, it'll take some time to get them all transferred over to the Cedar Fair admissions infrastructure and get every park's systems playing nice with each other. Better to do it slowly than have a chaotic integration plagued by technical woes.
The integration was rough because they couldn’t integrate Gate Central that quickly.
The acquisition was closed on July 30, 2006 and your pass worked at the legacy parks on day one of 2007. It wasn’t pretty, (if I recall, they hand-wrote your pass number at Cedar Point) but it did work.
With how inept communication is from the park now, just imagine them trying to convey the message, “Your All Park Passport is only good for some of the parks until later this summer then it’ll be all of the parks, and by the way, your add one only work at some of the parks all year.”
The Carnivale parade was at 9:00 this year instead of 7:00 and they even failed to get that message out properly.
Good luck with the matter at hand.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. IT stuff takes a lot of work in situations like this - they have to work with Accesso and/or other vendors to migrate data from one system to another, figure out what software/hardware updates are required at each park, figure out how to pay for all the necessary technology changes... As I recall it took a couple of years for CF to get all that straightened out after they bought the former Parmount parks. They'll also need to figure out how they're going to do mobile apps. I actually prefer having a separate app for each park, but developing/maintaining 43 apps for each platform (Android, iOS and any other platforms they may support) could be hard to do.
If only they knew since at least November of last year that they were going to face this at some point this year...

You shouldn’t need to “check the Ap” when I believe she was posting in response to them bragging they published a GUIDE that you had to click 2-3 things to get to, only to realize it 1) had a blank space for a map and 2) told you nothing in a guiding way like times or prices. The incompetence is becoming staggering. You have to wonder does Senior leadership like Koontz not see it, is he powerless to do anything to change it, or does he just choose to not?
It's fine. Someone else who does not get paid by the park to communicate with the public did the park's work for them and posted the times in that post. Glad they didn't bother to respond to me, and replied to the next poster, but didn't bother to directly answer their question. I know they're very busy updating their web site, updating the app with show times, getting the media out to the park, etc. Oh wait.

Personally I am looking forward to the FB posts from people standing by Grain and Grill complaining that it is 9:15 and the parade hasn't started yet lol
You’d think that a REALLY REALLY good blog would but the approximate times that the parade hits the various show stops. Maybe Don can do some sort of social post about that so they can copy/paste it.

Experienced the event yesterday evening. The decorations looked good. The parade was awesome. The few people I found that purchased food said it was really good. I will say the food looked wonderful. The key word there is looked.
I will likely not purchase individual food. It seems that is the consensus among a lot of the guests at the park. At any given time there were 0 to 3 people in line at a food stand.
With the tasting cards in previous years there were 5 to 10 minute waits to order at every food stand. If I was a KI gold tag, I would be on the phone with Charlotte and telling corporate to send me tasting cards ASAP. Otherwise it will be very likely for the first time ever this event at KI will loose a lot of money.
A look at a few of the food items. I would recommend giving them a try if your are ok purchasing a tasting for 3/4 the price of a full meal.
I’m with you on the cards. I’ve bought a card every year for every event that they’ve had like this. I guess this year I won’t be participating in the tasting, and from the looks of it, others feel the same way.
What’s scary is the park was PACKED. Presumably there were large groups. They’re big spenders, stereotypically speaking. The food at the tents being $8.95-ish should have given the veneer of a better value, but few seemed to have seen it that way.
Also, I saw some people lined up for the parade around 6:50, which was incompetently miscommunicated/not communicated to the media last week. I hope the people who were waiting got the info before giving up.
Of course, when I asked on their Facebook… well, they didn’t bother to reply, but when a former KI PR (not Don) responded saying that info would be nice, they said “check the app” in a very, “it’s not my job to deal with people like you” attitude.
So much talent.. so much effort.. so much hard work… the people actually putting on this event deserve so much better.

The tasting cards are apparently up to the individual parks and not corporate since California's Great America is offering cards with ten for $59.99 and six for $39.99, as well as three tastings with the Carnivale bundle. That park apparently sees value in the cards that Kings Island and Kings Dominion doesn't.
For what it's worth (assuming the France items are $7.49) it would cost around $118 to purchase all 15 Grand Carnivale food items at Kings Island.
As of yesterday, they also didn’t really have a merchandise line too. They had the t-shirt bundle, but in years past it was a few shirts as well as some Mardi Gras stuff. Hopefully that changes.

So here is a good tale of inconsistency that they are facing.
Two weeks ago, I went to the Brewhouse with a larger group of about 10 or so. Someone ordered the pretzel for the table. When delivered, it came out rock hard and burnt. The woman that ordered the food grabbed a supervisor and they agreed that it was unacceptable and took the pretzel back. A half hour later the supervisor came back to make sure our replacement was satisfactory and they found out that it never came. Frustrated, the supervisor went back and got one himself. I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was big, steaming, and was glazed in butter.
Not blaming, the sup for the late delivery. I actually a applaud him taking ownership in the end.
Anyway, I went last night and was bragging about this amazing pretzels. We ordered one and it came out not the same…
As you may be able to see from the photo, the size was great, but there was no glaze. It also wasn’t as soft and steaming. Kind of hard. Not exactly “I want to talk to a manager” bad, but it was about half as good as the previous one. It tasted fine, but was disappointing compared to my previous experience.
Just a lesson in consistency. I will say that the park’s beer cheese is superb.

LOL, all the in park announcements say the parade is at 7.
No, all of the media articles said 7:00. Based on last year. The park didn’t bother to communicate that information to them so they went with historical info.

Almost like they are trying to encourage it to do poorly so they can justify removing the event and/or doing something different.
The wine fest should have gave them good data on what ala carte sales does to an event like this.
(Sorry to double post, the quote feature was being wonky)
The one saving grace may be that the few people who still visit that aren’t season pass holders may see these items as a good value as opposed to the $22ish per meal that is at the normal restaurants.

From the menus posted so far most food items are $6.99-$9.49:
China
• Smoked Duck Fried Rice – 9.49
• Szechuan Beef Bao Bun – 7.49
• Almond Cookies & Fortune Cookies – 9.49
Germany
• Pretzel Bites w/ Bock Beer Cheese – 7.49
• Currywurst – 6.99
• Schnitzel Slider – 7.49
• Black Forest Trifle – 9.49
Italy
• Lasagna Fritta – 6.99
• Piadina –9.49
• Cannoli – 7.49
Spain
• Paella – 6.99
• Buñuelos - 6.99
I’ve bought a tasting card every year. One year I bought two. Seeing the prices, and with food portions and quality still climbing back to 2022 levels, I’ll take a pass this year and just use my meal plan. Thanks anyway.

I’ve never watched your podcast before—it’s really enjoyable.
I’m with Ryan that the requirement to not tear down the house seems like a weird thing to request. I wonder what the original sellers’ thinking was on that? I’m guessing it was some sort of homestead that had been in their family for a long time.
I have a feeling that requirement would have a difficult time being enforced at this point—first of all, someone from the original sellers would have to care enough to mount a challenge. Plus, KI has been sold three times since the original Taft Broadcasting land purchases—I doubt if that stipulation was included in the sale to Carl Linder, then the sale to Paramount, then the sale to Cedar Fair.
But, I guess at this point, what’s the point in spending the money tearing it down? It’s hidden away from view inside the fort, and it gives the park a nice bit of folklore (not to mention you guys a fun topic for your podcast
)
I think they could get away with it now, but if it’s hidden in a fort and no one can go in there then why spend the money to tear it down at this point?
I didn’t completely believe that clause either until Dennis Speigel said that he believed that it was true.

Let’s not forget that now they have like 20 more parks where GC would be a new an exciting event.
Kings Island’s parking lot cemetery
in Kings Island
Posted
My guess is they would have someone escort your car to the cemetery and make sure you didn’t go into the park.
