^ Which is why accidents like this drive me insane. If there was any question as to whether or not the man would be properly restrained, then why was he permitted to ride?
My prayers are with his family, as well as with his fellow riders. This has to be extremely traumatic for both parties.

^ I don't usually have too many issues with guessing what you mean in a post, Terp, but you've lost me there... unless you're suggesting they shorten Raven and add a loop to it. Care to explain?

-
^ Are you serious?! Part of me finds that hilarious, and part of me thinks that would be the most terrifying thing possible for riders and regular guests to have a giant Chaos wheel rolling down the midway. Where was/is it located in the park?

No steel coasters for 2012. The park's already denounced that rumor.
I'm gonna say it'll be something sizable, given the number/size of the papers he's holding... but then again, those could just be props. I don't know. Alls I'm saying is that I could theoretically see Holiday World getting the first "official" Gravity Group Splinter model, assuming that TGG and HW's relationship hasn't gone a bit sour over these Timberliner delays.
Do also note the following message from the park's Facebook:
Dan just told me he went to college with George M. Cohan's grandson. Why would we talk about that today?A quick Google search shows that George Cohan wrote both "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy," which makes me wonder if something's in store for the Fourth of July section.

What originally brought me to Kings Island? My parents' 1982 Chevette.

Actually, my parents just started taking trips every summer since around 1995. I still have memories of crying on Phantom Theater and Vortex and of watching King Cobra... I wasn't much of a daredevil as a kid. Haha. I religiously rode The Beastie, Scooby's Ghoster Coaster, and Scooby Zoom, and we still have our old passes stored away in the attic. I never really got into roller coasters, though, and didn't take many, if any, trips to KI between 2000 and 2004-2005.
Eventually, we somehow ended up getting tickets and started going once a year with friends for a couple years (which was when I fell in love with TR:TR). (There was a trip or two to Cedar Point mixed in that time, but I don't remember much about them. I know one was when Maverick was new.) That ended around 2007, but I ended up buying a Platinum pass to ride coasters with my then-girlfriend in 2008. The relationship ended, but I was obsessed with the coasters... And the rest is history.

I am amazed at the constant whining about ERT.
WS is a new ride, of course it will have ERT for 2011 & probably 2012.
But, it's RARELY open for ERT! it's not reliable enough for it. Yesterday, it was replaced by Shake Rattle N Roll and they were assigning seats! Really? Go back to the 2 most reliable rides in the park, Beast and Diamondback!
So that explains why, every time I went to ERT last year, Beast was down till near opening... Thanks for clearing that up.
I don't like to grumble, but enough is enough. Everyone, the park's going to assign what rides it wants for ERT. You, having bought a pass, are entitled to that ERT. The park can, will, and does change what rides are open during ERT. They have every right to, much in the same way they have the right to rope off parts of the parking lot and charge extra for those spots. So either accept the fact that Kings Island uses its right to do such things and get over it, or stop showing your support with your money.
TL;DR? They could very well have not opened Shake, Rattle N Roll and given you EST... Extended standing time.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not as if the Giant Top Spin is some massive, burning hot piece of steel that evaporates any water it comes within 15 feet of?
Still, I don't know the intricacies of the Crypt or why it is the way it is. Haven't many here said moisture was to blame for the ride's demise? And yet, with the exception of its first day of operation, the fountains never actually contacted the gondola. Was it the fog, then, that really screwed it up so badly? So I don't know what limits it has in regards to water being in its "personal space." Maybe a lightly filtering pond really WOULD push it over the edge eventually?
It's not a massive, burning hot piece of steel, no. But it is a machine that, like every other machine ever made, loses some of its energy to friction in the form of heat. The heat transfers itself to the air around it, raising the temperature of the ride chamber. And what evaporates faster than standing water? Heated standing water. The Giant Top Spin might not cause the water to boil, but it's certainly not helping its own situation.
I honestly doubt it's a huge component of the water issue, but I'd be willing to bet it's got something to do with it. A good chunk of my TR:TR memories usually involve a toasty, humid ride chamber, now that I think about it.

Between this, Flight Deck's line, and The Crypt's lava LEDs, I have died of happiness. I love this! I've never known the ride to not have the floodlights on, but this looks MUCH better.

I was standing on the walkway of the Starlight Spectacular during the fireworks and a girl walked by one of the employees who was holding the controls for the opening/closing flower things. She said, "Are you controlling the fireworks?!?!" The employee said enthusiastically, "I WISH!"
The Starlight Spectacular employees seem to have the best personalities. A couple weeks ago, my friend and I, in a spectacular case of slaphappiness, started dancing like Peanuts characters while walking through the lights. A group of teenage girls, who eventually even got pictures with us, joined in. Before we knew it, an employee hopped in and did a fantastic impression of Linus's dancing in the Peanuts Christmas special.
It by far made my night. And now I'm wondering why I just admitted publicly to dancing in an amusement park. Oh well!

I don't know where he heard this, but a friend of mine said that a guy who has no trouble fitting on Diamondback had to do the walk of shame on WindSeeker, because while his belt buckled, the driver was getting a message that it wasn't locked enough. I need an extra push on Diamondback, so I don't even want to go near WindSeeker until I find out for sure.
I saw several people last night almost getting WoS'ed on WindSeeker who I'd guess would be able to ride Diamondback who had this same situation. The ride isn't as fluffy-friendly as it would appear, everyone.

^ This is also true. I know my last few rides on Tomb Raider definitely reflected that. Still, you have to admit that there was still a significant downgrade between Tomb Raider '07 and Crypt '08...
-
^ Errr... define "rather well". As I understand it, the ride went through quite a bit of downtime as TR:TR, especially during Haunt '06 or '07, when the ride never opened due to waiting to parts from HUSS in Germany. I'll give you that the ride experience went downhill after Tomb Raider, but the downtime seems to have been minimized with this two-flip cycle the ride currently does. I actually don't know that I've seen The Crypt down once this year, though I'm sure it has been.
-
^ I rode The Crypt today and now know what you're talking about. The red, orange, and yellow lights that lava-fied the Tomb Raider lava pit now stay on the whole ride cycle, though there's no water. I'm INCREDIBLY pleased to see it make a return--the floor now seems much less boring to look at. The lights draw your attention while you're flipping, so you don't notice the concrete as much. Thank you, KI! <3

Funny... Both my friend and I have found Beast to be consistently and unusually rough this year, compared to others. We almost always ride in wheel seats and have done so for years, but the ride's really been smacking us around this year, namely, at the turn into the "MCBR," the turn after the second lift, and right when you exit the tunnel the first time through the helix.
The second one seems especially bad--sitting towards the rear, you can watch as the train bucks and everyone's head jerks uncomfortably to the right once halfway into the turn, then once more as the turn ends and the trim begins. The ride's had a fun snap right around there for a couple years, but it's just uncomfortable now.
-
^ Ah, okay! Thanks for clarifying that for me.
I knew something didn't sound quite right there. -
Is it silly or not that this just made me a lot more hopeful for the theming at KI?
EDIT: Wait... President AND CEO? Wasn't that the start of all the Qs in the first place?
-
As fun as it would be to blame Johnny, parks can and will test rides throughout the night... Sorry, guys.

-
Thanks, standbyme!
My arms got tired, so sorry for what shakes there are. Also, I'm about 50% sure I saw Ed Dangler from Cedar Point's maintenance department around the ride. I'd be more sure, except I've only seen Ed approximately once in my life.

^ I swear I'm not trying to come down on you, RaptorGuy, but how do you know the trains have sat out for two winters? It seems more logical to me that Cedar Fair would at least have the trains under some shelter in case they might be usable for another ride, should SoB be torn down or otherwise no longer in need of the trains. Same for if the track would need replaced... How do you know? I'm sincerely curious.

In case anyone was interested, here's a video I took of KI's WindSeeker testing last night:

P.S. According to a Maverick team member, the effect lights in the tunnel will never be on again, as they "interfered with the sensors" on the LSMs. As someone who is not intimately familiar with the ride or the mechanical workings of it, I can't say whether or not that is a realistic reason. I just know a lot of people here were questioning it earlier, and that is the answer I was given.
As I (vaguely) understand it, there are several sensors along the track that "count" the number of cars that pass alongside them using optical sensors. (On most wooden coasters, these are the green blocks you see in the middle of the track .) Fins beneath the car--I presume they're the brake fins--break the light beam between both sides of the sensor, allowing the ride's computers to tell when a full train has passed. In Maverick's case, the sensors would presumably count to three to make sure that other trains weren't being launched into an occupied block. I'd believe it when they say those lights messed with the sensor--as I remember, there were also some strobes, so I'd bet they caused some miscounting now and again.
But, it also begs the question: can't they just move the lights or something? They were bright, but it seems like something could be done so they don't interfere with the sensor(s), even if it means putting a physical barrier between the lights and the sensor(s). But this is Cedar Fair we're talking about, so just shutting them off is the best solution we'll probably get.
This is all based off guesstimations I've made combined with an experience while waiting in line for Raven last year, so I may be wrong. As the ride op explained, the sensors were miscounting the cars, so the computer only read that there were five cars on the train. The computer would then assume that the sixth car was still waiting in the station and send the ride into a two-train mode, in which it would slow the lift chain considerably and then bring the train to a complete stop on the brake run as it waited for that last, nonexistent car to leave the station. Maintenance had to repeatedly come out and reset the computer system... Turns out even computers have trouble counting to six. It turned a 15 minute wait into a 45 minute one, but it was educational, so I guess that evens it out?

I'm glad to see WindSeekers finally start opening. Can't wait for KI's to finally get there, too!
I've got to wonder, though, what the deal is with the chairs getting as close as they do in the CP video. I kind of assumed from the renderings that they'd be constrained to only swing towards and away from the center of the tower... I thought it'd be more like the swinging motion of Arrow suspendeds crossed with the spinning of Zephyr. Maybe the WindSeekers are a little more like Zephyr than we originally assumed?
-
I've heard that both Cornball and LoCoSuMo are back up. Do be sure to ask around anyway, though. And if they are indeed up, be sure to ride LoCoSuMo backwards for me!
As I recall, IB's food prices aren't too different from the usual fare at Holiday World--reasonable, and you get a decent amount for the price.
I visited in the middle of July last year, and the longest line I waited in was a one-train wait for Hoosier Hurricane. I want to say that was on a Wednesday, though, and it was approximately several thousand degrees outside. Can't say much for how the weekend shapes up, so sorry!

Welcome to the boards, DBInternational!

I don't know about all the former Paramount parks, but I do know that Kings Dominion does not have a former Paramount Story area. It's the only other Paramount park I've been to.

^^^ I'm right there with you with "Monster" by The Automatic at Halloween. It just fits the Halloween Haunt atmosphere so well. In fact, I think it was used in Dead Awakening in 2008.
