  1. This is good news because I was sad I didnt get to ride the ride my last time there. I was almost convinced this ride was being removed.... Now... looking forward to 2014 and beyond...
  2. Overall, CF INMHO has been hitting homeruns across the chain. This is just the latest greatest home run. Banshee and bringing back a beloved name.... My oh my!
  3. Was that right before the "fake" page went live? EDIT: AUGUST 3rd the exact same tweet happened....
  4. Wow. Had long had he gone between rides? What was special about tonight's ride? Which seat was he in? Don a huge congrats sir. I hope ride 12000 was just as memorable and great as ride 1. Here is hoping you get another 12000 rides in on the beautiful roller coaster. I wonder which era or season of The Racer did Don love the most? Was the early racer better than the later? Was 85 better than 93? In all seriousness, Congrats Don. It makes me know that our park is in safe hands when a true enthusiast is one of the people behind the scenes making our park what it is.
  5. Im saddened by the year round haunt buildings taking over former buildings and attractions...
  6. Same company owns both places. They said they named it on purpose that way to help branding.... Talk of a future hotel on site.
  7. Busch Gardens Williamsburg cited a "25 year shelf life" for its Arrow Suspended Coaster, Big Bad Wolf, and used that as a reason for removing it in 2009. Take that for what it's worth. For reference, Flight Deck's 25th season would be 2018. EDIT: Cedar Point's Iron Dragon is in its 26th season and still operating. Perhaps in part because it's not on a parcel of land that can easily accommodate another ride, whereas Big Bad Wolf was... and in fact, that land is now occupied by Verbolten. Bingo! Flight Deck's usefulness will end when the land is worth more for park expansion than it is now as a ride. With the elevation changes in that area of the park, it may be a lil bit before we see park expansion hard core that would make FD a casualty. Then again, only a few know what the plans are, and plans can and often change
  8. Well there is a big difference, IMO, from Avatar to Harry Potter or Avatar to Star Wars or Avatar to Cars. Harry Potter is/was a film series that grew with audiences. If you have a little one, you can throw on the first movie and have them be just as entertained as the adults. When they get older you can show them the other movies. They can grow up with the characters. Then they want to go to Universal and live in that world. Cars is a kids movie. Kids love it. Adults enjoy it. But it is always on tv. Kids can see it all of the time, and kids love seeing characters live. Star Wars. See Harry Potter, but multiple movies, you can get people to really want to visit. Plus who doesnt want the possibility to have a light saber fight with Vader? Avatar: 1 visually awesome movie. Kids dont flock to turn it on like they do the Pixar films or HP or Star Wars. I think it will be a nice addition, but I dont think it will have the high impact that it would have had when Avatar first came out. Plus in 4-5 years, who knows what people will like. If you take a stroll over to Universal Islands of Adventure, Jurassic Park land is still semi popular. Mainly because of Dinosaurs. Kids love Dinosaurs. You can pet em, you can see them. You can hatch them, etc. Dr. Seuss land is a kiddie land and well done. Toon Lagoon, is starting to be dated with cartoons no longer on the air. Marvel part is more popular than ever, thanks to Disney/Marvel making a bunch of movies every few years.
  9. Was this a college kid doing an indepth thesis or a high school kid doing an introductory thesis? What articles did he research on Wikipedia? Too many variables. In truthfulness, Wikipedia is a decent start and for some medical terms it does have a decent level of understanding on their. The problem with Wikipedia is that the way the "fact" is presented can be misleading. The way a tone is worded can change the meaning of the article.... "Top Gun was repainted to be part of the all new Paramount Action Zone" "Top Gun was repainted gray, from its original bright red paint job" Top Gun, originally Red, changed to Gray, in 199?" 3 "facts" but only one is a true fact while the other 2 are presented as opinionated versions of the facts...
  10. Im not going to lie, this incident was in the back of my mind when riding rides at KI the other night.
  11. The haunt inside of the crypt has you walk down a flight of stairs.... I also saw them tell a few guests in wheel chairs that they would not be able to go through a few haunts while in wheel chairs.... Seeing all of those pics makes me sad to think that almost 20 years ago we were (the universal we) all lining up under that ride. I loved the theme under the ride.
  12. On one hand, it would seem that a go-kart attraction would be popular, more so if the track is interesting. On the other hand, if you pay 45$ or so to get into the park will you really want to spend 5-10 dollars to ride go karts, which takes time away other parts of the parks. There are not many go karting tracks in the area so I would think people would want to, but then again, I wouldnt want to spend more money to go kart after I spent money to enter the park. Plus with gas being almost 3.50 a gallon, I would think that the karts would lose money if you charged less than 10 dollars/round
  13. Yesterday was the first time in the park for me all year. Did a bunch of haunt stuff and midnight rides on Beast/Diamondback (awesome all the way around). However, when you first see the lift hill for Banshee it is awesome! Maybe its not the tallest coaster in the world or fastest, but when you walk into that side of the park it is an awesome sight. Looking forward to next season!
  14. I am sorry, what is your specialty? I am an SLP, and I agree with your question of if we can teach children with ASD to wait or not. Also, your description of children with ASD not relating waiting with a reward is spot on. The severe ASD children I work with do not (and so far have not been able to) understand the concept of waiting. They do however understand working towards something. If I work on 3 projects then I get a reward, etc. Interesting question... I'm licensed K - 12 Intervention Specialist, focus on mild-moderate disabilities. It's a dicey topic no matter which angle you approach it from, but our occupations give us a unique perspective, and maybe a unique challenge. Just to be clear the I am sorry what is your specialty comment was suppose to read I am sorry I forgot or dont know what you do, what is your specialty. It is a unique challenge but I work with about 8 severe non-verbal students with ASD and they are my favorites. Our school tried to not invite the Autism unit to the class field trip to Kings Island. Lets say that there were a few people very very very upset about that...

  16. But who's to judge if a person was raised right? I know...shut up Chris is what you're probably thinking. Overall, the bottom line comes down to security. Either there isn't enough security presence or there isn't enough security personnel that actually care to take care of problems. Well if your kids are acting out, picking fights, and being down right scum bags... then you may have raised em wrong. I disagree whole heartedly. If you remember the haunted house at forest fair mall (before it moved to Dent School House, yes look it up kiddos), my parents took my 6 year old self and 5 year old sister to haunts. My sister loved it. I was sort of terrified. However, its some of the best memories I have as a kid. My parents knew what was going to happen. My parents learned that I could sit out a haunt (with the mom) while my dad and sister walked through the haunt. So if a haunt said, no shes too young, my sister never would have enjoyed the things she did. it, of course, is a matter of perspective. The 16 year old comment is more along the lines of a lot of those under that age gives the park to being a baby sitting service. And for what it's worth, I don't have any idea what the FFM Haunted House was like, nor the Dent School House- but Haunted Houses back in those days, if memory serves me right, weren't as "demented" as some are today. I had been to many a haunted house, trail, etc... Even participated in the SS Nightmare, and tried to through the Haunted Hospital in Blue Ash before it was converted back to a real hospital. Those were great back in the day- scared the ^$*&( out of you. Conversely, some of the things I've seen at Haunt aren't really as scary as they are gross. Kings Island, to their credit, does warn people though. You don't have to go through the shows, and if you can handle the random person coming up to you screaming or yelling "BOO" it's just another night at the park. Great points. From my memory FFM was pretty similar to the way you described it, scary but not gross. I would still say that the current incarnation as of Dent School house is built around scary and not gross.
  17. What irritates me, as does my friend, is that people use the park as a babysitting service. Why not create an admission guideline that you have to be over __ to be without an adult? You'd think that parent's would be more thoughtful about this, especially with the recent episode of the guy in glasses recording kids (I know this opens up another can of worms and what not). It irritates me because there are tons of parents who drop their kids off for the entire day during the summer....and pick them up at the end of the night (not really responsible). However, the moment their kid doesn't answer their phone and doesn't show up to the pickup location the parents see it as the parks fault. My mom and dad used the park as a baby sitter. But my sister and I (along with our group of friends) were super responsible. My mom could use it as a "babysitter" because she knew that she wouldnt be receiving a phone call from park security telling her to come pick her kids up. We were as young as 12/13. This was in the days before everyone had cell phones (about 14 years ago). We had change and knew we had to check in with a paid phone call. I got my first cell phone at 14 and man oh man, did that help on not having to carry change every where. But hey, I was at the park last year and I saw adults being stupid. Trying to yell at teenagers for standing in a group. They are just kids. Let them have fun. Age doesnt make you a problem. The way you are raised is what makes you a problem to society.... 18. Double Post sorry: So I attempted to do their methodology and I just cant crack it. I got numbers that were way over 100....
  19. I think lists like this are great. Gets people talking and interested. Im not so sure whats wrong with the list about KI rids. They have the first 3 rides in about the correct order (beast, diamond back, Vortex). The next 3 rides are good rides in the park not great not horrible. I think Racer is a bit low, but its an opinion poll. I like the idea of adding a few more polls to this poll. Nothing stops anyone of us from doing this. The methodology is there. Any good researcher knows they learn from previous research and add from there. I think the stats are a very solid way to go about these type of lists. I think Stats have to be strong in a poll like this. Where everything is so subjective, you need objective data. Qualitative and quantitative data is what makes the best research. Maybe do the same methodology of their research but instead of 30 % for the 2013 poll what if they split that between 2 or 3 current polls (10% each) or 30% for the average spot on the 2013 poll....
  20. Was Cedar Fair the only suitor for the chain of parks? Would CBS had sold the parks off individually or were they always packaged as a chain?
  21. to the average park goer, the name of the ride and the physics of the ride does not matter. Park goer A is deciding where to go to spend his/her hard earned money on a destination vacation. They could go to KD but they have heard the one ride there keeps breaking down. They could go to KI where there are 2 new roller coasters.... No manufacturer names even come up in a normal conversation, its all about the parks rep of having rides that are or are not operating....
  22. Not only is it poor grammar, it was released to the world by the AP. "Hey you guys!" should have been placed at the beginning of the original sentence, to fit the demographics....LOL Im not going to argue too much with yall on grammar issues, but dont forget that the AP has its own style book. It is completely different than "normal" grammar. They have certain rules for comma use etc. For example all verbs must be present tense or present perfect (goes/has gone), no commas before conjunctions, etc etc etc
  23. It would be nice if the park offered a nice picnic grove area where you can grill out near the parking lot. But I guess that would offer too much competition to the eateries inside the park... http://www.quora.com/Why-is-drinking-alcohol-allowed-during-tailgating-outside-sports-venues-in-the-US
  24. I question the ability of some people to properly check lap bars. I know I have ridden many rides where the lap bar check was a 1-2 finger lift on the bar (thinking Beast and Racers).... I always appreciated the FoF crew for pushing down and yanking up. I agree with this statement. By adding a belt, it helps keep the people who are on the shorter/taller/lighter/bigger side from having an accident. I may not like certain rides, but I wouldnt want any type of ride transition to be banned when a "simple" fix or addition can keep people safe...
  25. Its an interesting point about naming the parks the same or having a similar moniker in the name of the park or rides..... Forgive me if I am wrong, but did Six Flags ever market their individual parks by their name or did they market it as SIX FLAGS (local name).... When an injury happens, the news has always stated Six Flags park located in (State) but usually the only thing you hear is Six Flags... Makes people a bit freaked out. Always wondered why parks were named similarly. I get its easier to market as one brand but when you have a problem with one place, customers will thing its their version of the local one....
