Soak City Questions, related to small children
jcgoble3 replied to Rachaelnoel76's topic in Kings Island
I use one that I bought at KI and have never had so much as a single drop of water leak into it, even when fully submerged for several minutes at a time. -

^ Good point. I would therefore recommend the beach safe, as I described in my previous post above. -

What Terpy said. Leave the key fob in your car and use a regular key to gain access. As for your pass, two options: you can enter, turn right around, get your hand stamped, put the pass in your car, and then re-enter with the handstamp; or you can go to the shop to the left of the entrance and spend $5 on a "beach safe", which is essentially a small, waterproof container that you can wear around your neck or tie to your swimsuit. The latter will also enable you to carry a little money and, yes, your car key as well. The beach safe would be a one-time purchase; you can take it home with you and reuse it. -

Soak City Questions, related to small children

The wave pools, baby pools, etc. are considered attractions. Basically, you cannot get wet until 11:00. As Terpy just said, there is no free parking anywhere close from where it would be safe to walk. KI is located on a busy road running between two close interstate exits with a 45 mph speed limit, and you cannot park on the road. You have to utilize the KI parking lot. -

There are a couple of play areas for toddlers and preschoolers, and they might enjoy the (very) shallow end of the wave pools (for which they will be required to wear life jackets, available free of charge). Otherwise, there's not much to do until they reach 40" tall, at which point some of the major slides begin to open up to them. Gold passholders were able to enter at 10:30 the past few years, but that may or may not be the same next year as the list of benefits has not been announced. However, the attractions do not open until 11:00, so there's not much to do during that half hour. Do NOT, under any circumstances, leave stuff unattended, even something as simple as your clothes. If it's not on your person, it needs to be locked up. Lockers are expensive; last time I looked, they were $12 small/$15 medium/$21 large for an all-day rental, and prices may have gone up since then. I recommend arriving around 10:00 to 10:15, parking as close to the waterpark gate as you can (you can get a lot closer to the waterpark gate than you can the main gate), and using your car as a locker. Lock your main set of keys in your car and carry a single spare key attached to the front of your swimsuit so you can get back into your car. Then do the waterpark in the morning/early afternoon (these are the least crowded hours by far), and migrate into the dry side of the park when the waterpark begins to become crowded in the heat of the mid-afternoon. -

Somebody needs to teach them what a Bcc: field is for. Or better yet, a proper mailing list.

Waiting on the park to release the operating calendar and curiosity got the better of you? The last three years it has been on the last Saturday in April. In 2010 I believe it was earlier in April, though I'm not sure of the exact date. This year, we already know that Banshee media day and the A Kid Again fundraiser are scheduled for Thursday, April 17, therefore the park will not open before then. One would assume that they will want to open the park while the media reports about Banshee are still fresh in people's minds, hence I expect opening day to be Saturday, April 19. I of course could be wrong on that, but I don't think I am.

^ Where did the 13th day come from?

"Flight Bat Deck Gun Thing" I think this was my favorite part of this report. It's certainly the point where I laughed the hardest! Great report, even if it is two months late. Have fun with your Platinum Pass next year!

Documentary concerning Seaworld ("Blackfish")
jcgoble3 replied to Tanna's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
My understanding—and someone please correct me if I'm wrong—is that anytime SeaWorld takes in an animal (be it an orca or any other creature) from the wild, they do so with the goal of treating and rehabilitating its injuries and releasing it back into the wild as soon as reasonably possible, and it is only those who have injuries that are unable to fully heal and would spell death for them in the wild that are kept in captivity, moved into the parks, and become show/display animals. Of course, the offspring of those injured animals, being that they are born in captivity to begin with, are then unable to be released into the wild because they are unable to develop the necessary survival instincts that they would if born and raised in the wild, but I see that as preferable to turning them loose to die in the wild. -
That was exactly my thought.

How much of that pent up demand even knows that season passes are on sale?

I think she'll put up with our stalking for about another four months before she takes her revenge.

I just noticed something. Banshee truly is a woman because she has some sweet curves.

Interview with Don: 2014 Improvements and Additions
jcgoble3 replied to TombRaiderFTW's topic in Kings Island
^ I seem to recall a similar perk in the original perk list for 2013 passes. I got excited about it. By the time opening day rolled around, it had been removed. This time I'm not believing that they'll actually go through with it until I actually get the discount on opening day. -
Confirmed by the GOCC Facebook page: Somebody should start a Most Creative School Absence Excuse contest for the young ones on here. Bonus points if the excuse actually works.
