  1. ^ I have read that too. Funny how things didn;t used to be designed suicide or stupidity proof.

Browntigrr you are so right. As a School Counselor I see it all the time. The sad thing is they really set their kids back by being that way. It sends some pretty dysfunctional messages. Like the lady who is furious that her kid is getting bullied (I investigatyed and he is the bully), comes in to yell at our staff and then keeps him home for the 1st 2 days of STEP (standardized testing).

This lady actually had a newsletter from 13 years ago when her daughter had the same teacher that her son has now. She is still furious over the teacher's comment that 'mumbling is her number one beef." It was directed to the whole class, doesn;t sound rude and is a common complaint of teachers... and this woman still got red in the face with anger when she talked about it. Wow! Let it go!

As a practicing physcologist, I feel your pain. Sometimes people never want to listen...

  2. Terpy, I am not stating that the park should recieve said funding but, I do believe if the funds were not availble in the private sector not due to, a lack of interest then, state funding for a project of this nature would be a appropriate. Considering, the state of Kentucky's economy fiifty million is just too much but, if conditions were right then, I would see nothing wrong with state backed funding.

  3. Currently, the rides belong to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and are on Fair Board property. As for picking them up on the cheap, unless and until the Fair Board decides what it is going to do with Kentucky Kingdom, I doubt the rides go anywhere. The park could still be saved, but it is looking less and less likely that state backed bonding will be available.

As a citizen of the Commenwealth of Kentucky, I vote for selling off the parks assets to the highest bidders if a privately backed group does not appear in the near future with the ability to open and run the park. As much as I love amusement parks, the state of Kentucky just does not have the funds to spare in the current economic climate to put into reopening the park. A venture such as this is for private enterprise, not goverment oversite.

I don't care if it's privately or government funded, if it works, it works. I'm not sure if the state possesses said funds to do so but, if a investment such as this is believed to be a, "sound," one and the funds exist, why not? If it creates jobs and revenue for the state and it's inhabitants, whats wrong with financial backing via state funds?

  4. Interesting that the only two parks mentioned directly when talking about attendance were Cedar Point and Canada`s Wonderland. Also interesting that the northern region saw the smallest percentage increase of the three regions.

And they realized a 1% increase in in-park per capita spending. In other words, don`t look for Kings Island to hold the line or even reduce prices on food inside the park anytime soon. (Even if it means they may make more money on a reduced profit margin per item sold). It still amazes me that the big themers down in Florida (and even Dollywood) charge less for soft drinks then what Kings Island does. Just imagine how well a place that serves $1 hot dogs and soft drinks would do at KI? I know at the Reds games I went to this year, the $1 concession stand on the main concourse had among the longest lines of all the food venues!

With the nearby Holiday world having such cheap prices on it's food and Kentucky Kingdom (if it even opens) scheduled to feature just as cheap or cheaper prices, one has to wonder if King's Island will start to get the picture after realizing how much better in park spending does at these parks. I might be dreaming here but, it's something to think about.

  5. I remember it as being profoundly disturbing. But then I was a very emotional young man.

I find it funny, that what others find disturbing I find, hilarious. It was disturbing but, It was also hilarious and Jackson's message she is attempting sending about humanity in this piece is both true and important.

  6. Beast 1979, did you take the time to search for the true meaning of The Lottery? It is very interesting, and in my opinion, hilarious. As for KK, the one thing that keeps me leaning towards the view that he will not get funding, is that if he did ask a bank for a loan and his plan is so perfect, why did it not get approval? It doesn't add up. It's like attempting to crush two unfitting pieces of a puzzle together and pretending it works, it's silly so stop it. I feel your love for Kentucky Kingdom, and I understand but, you have to look at the evidence, it's piled high against you.

This discussion, too, made me laugh to the point of tears. Why?

I understand you are mad at the government, demand small government, dream for lower taxes, and are enraged with anyone who is involved with Washington...

Some day, we will meet. We will be fast friends (I betcha). And I will then tell you how very wrong that statement is, tell you why, and you will join me in laughing uproariously, perhaps for hours. In fact, I am taking this to my bosses to "show and tell" tomorrow. I am sure they will find it hysterically funny!

Thank you for making my evening. I really needed that, and I do mean that. A good laugh is good for the soul!

That made my evening, thank you for that kind comment. I'm very interested to hear your personal opinions, I always have been.

  7. Even though, I am a democrat, I must admit our reputation, for now at least has been ruined. Anyone, especially someone trying to receive 50 million dollars from the state, who is connected with the Democratic party, will unfortunately fail, there is just no way. We are in a day and age where the number one priority for politicians is to get reelected. If the general public finds out the state spent, fifty million dollars investing in a amusement park that failed twice, they will be quite unhappy. As Terpy said some of the people who have the chose to approve this, might end up running for governor and if they do approve of this, it is unlikely they will be elected. I hate to admit it but, it will not get passed.

  8. The emotional part of me says,"no," but, and I will probably change my decision on this a thousand times but, I now agree with you, this will not pass in the legislature. In this economy and with the state of Kentucky already burdened with debt, whether or not it's a good idea it will not pass. The thought of Kentucky Kingdom being reborn and sculpted back into the gem of a park it was, overtook me. I'm sorry if I distorted anyone's views. Terpy, I am also sorry for distorting your record to the public. Even though I have only been a member of this site four around two months, I have spent hours reading years worth of posts on this site, and I conclude that you, are by far the best and most accurate ,"Interpreter," we have on this site. I thank you for your most accurate predictions.

^^laughing at "the lottery" and laughing at "you can ride the mousey in new england" are two completely different types of hilarity.

I'm aware, and I have no idea why I am like that. Is it also odd, "The Ledge," by ,"Stephen King," made me happy and even caused me too chuckle?

  9. Excuse my ability to misunderstand jokes. I am sometimes called a robot due to my, "unnatural," attitude.

What made me laugh in your post was when you said,"You can ride the mousey in New England." It was quite random and the way you worded it made it sound, to me at least, delightfully hilarious. I'm the kind of person who laughs at stories like, "The Lottery," by ,"Shirley Jackson." I have quite an odd sense of humor.

  10. You, sir, can ride Chang in New Jersey next year. I'd be honored to take you there...and you can ride the mousey in New England.

    No Starchaser?

Starchaser closed in 1995, if he went there when Six Flags did not own it and Chang was in attendance, he must have went in 1997, am I correct? I must say though, your post was quite hilarious.

  11. I was asking for a source not Mr.Hart's track record. I am well aware of that venture and it's outcome. It seems to me most of it's problems were caused by Six Flags. What small park owner wouldn't be scared of the world's largest theme park chain as competition? I will continue to stand by my opinion until, evidence that is revealing enough to convince me otherwise is given. You still haven't given me your source and shown no facts. If there is anyone out there on the fence concerning this issue, may I remind the readers that the lease the state will give the ,"Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company,", are going to be used to fix the mistakes caused by former owner, "Six Flags," and will be applied to the purchase of new rides and refurbishment/repair of older rides, with intent to create a rise in profit for Mr. Hart, the state, and all of Kentucky's taxpayers. Studies done by the state have shown that the park can be very successful, given the correct dosage of support, leadership, and most of all funding.

  12. Terp, could it be your love for King's Island that is driving you to believe what you believe? I have given my reasons and shown my proof, you sir have not shown anyone your evidence. No matter how,"Spotless," your record is, facts are facts, opinions are opinions. Give me facts and my opinion will change.

Edit: Prior to posting this I had not recently loaded the page, because of that my opinion was distorted. I have decided to leave this post up for documenting purposes.

  13. Terpy, I do not doubt that you believe he asked the banks. Your reason that, "He said that this CANNOT work without public sector banking," seems more like speculation to me. If you have a legitimate source, I will have no problem aiming faith at your statement, until then, I can not and will not.

  14. I understand you are mad at the government, demand small government, dream for lower taxes, and are enraged with anyone who is involved with Washington but, if you take the time to do the math, this could be a huge benefit for Kentucky. It will only take 3.5 million dollars for KK take pay it's lease agreement, in the video it is explained the park will rake in 11 million dollars. If the park is one third as successful as predicted, the state will break even. The risk is not all that large. Eventually, the state could be generating an extra 11 million minimum a year. The initial investment may be large but, the long term financial gains are even larger.
