  1. Except this only works if you actually file more than a tiny section of the ride. Total the park submitted plans for a section which was like 60 feet long, and then did not submit any additional plans for several weeks. I assume more plans are now available and just no one is visiting the city to find out.

  3. In fairness to the Carowinds forums, Cedar Fair has been pretty public about wanting to convert the two remaining standup rides in the chain. I think it is more likely Vortex at California's Great America will be done first though. On your earlier point about the plans. The city only gets the foundation plans. Which in this case were not even complete. Personally I think the park filled what they did on purpose to give us something to work with. But at the same time made it difficult to actually figure too much out. Because from what I can tell there was no need to file anything that early. Also the plans used a project north and a custom park coordinate system which we never figured out the origin for. Which is why it was so difficult to figure out the placement of the ride. In short I think the plans were part of the marketing for the ride.

  5. ^ I do not believe anyone said this might be temporary, everything points at this being permanent. This is the first piece of the Marvel land and will be a part of the new section of the park.
  6. Don did an interview a few weeks ago where he handed the person who was doing the interview the ax and made a statement similar to "You will need this". I took it to mean that it would be needed to fight back against something. I think the theme will have something to do with an overgrowth of some kind, like fast growing vines or trees. It somewhat fits in with the image with the vines and floating lights. I am expecting vines likely fake hanging down at times, very possibly in tunnels or hanging down from the bridge over WWC. I could also see twinkling lights.
  7. Disney has larger trackless vehicles but people rarely think of them. Universe of Energy, and the Great Movie Ride are both trackless. This one is less obvious because it is too dark to tell but the original Tower of Terror is also trackless when the car is driving through the 5th dimension between the first and second elevator shaft. I will be in Orlando in October for Halloween Horror Nights, I would like to think Kong will be working by then.
  8. The first two weeks of December is one of my favorite times of year to visit Disneyland and Disney World. The decorations, lights, and shows have already changed for Christmas, except school is still in session so I find it to be one of the slower times of year. The problem is that the closer you get to Christmas the worse the crowds get. Leading to the week between Christmas and New Years which is the busiest time of the year. The trip would have to be free to get me in a Disney park during that week.
  9. I get the feeling that this announcement is because we might start seeing scaffolding soon. This would let Disney get a start on the exterior work this fall while the ride is still open. Then it closes for good in January after the holidays. I would think it should be easy at that point to get it changed over before the movie opens next summer. While this is not official, if I wanted one last ride before it is changed I would not wait until December. Who wants to remember the ride covered in scaffolding?

  11. My trig might be rusty, but that put the incline at about 21° on those rides. I also don't know how much faith I have in the google maps measurement tool when it comes to image overlays. Edit: I should also point out that I was using "at most" as a benchmark to indicate "no larger than" for this ride. The trig is likely fine, I did not spend the time to double check your work. I think your guess at how steep the lift hill is wrong, we also do not know if there is a straight section leading into the lift or at the top. 20 degrees is a pretty standard angle for a short lift hill, I suspect several coasters at Kings Island have a 20 degree lift hill. As a sanity check I went back to Google maps and checked out what I get for a measurement of the length of the lift hill on Millennium Force. The site is reporting 320 ft. This makes sense because we know the lift is at a 45 degree angle and it is 310 feet tall. The track flattens out at the top and bottom of the hill adding a couple of extra feet to the length.
  12. At this point in time I would not worry about this occurring in Florida. The problem is that Universal Orlando holds exclusive theme park rights, east of the Mississippi to many of the Marvel characters, and to the Marvel brand itself. The contract does not explicitly cover Guardians of the Galaxy so there might be a loop hole there, but even if it exists the problem is Universal does have the rights to the Avengers which covers almost everything Marvel does in some way. In California the Tower of Terror is next to a back stage parking lot which is frequently used to store items for the park. It has been rumored for some time and hinted at in the video that this is just the first ride and California Adventure will get an entire Marvel section to the park. The rides are similar but not the same. The largest difference is that in Florida the ride travels up one elevator shaft, then drives out through the twilight zone into another elevator shaft where the actual drop ride occurs. California is a much simpler, and shorter ride, there is no autonomous vehicle, the elevator never leaves the shaft while the ride is operating. The programming on the drop sequence is completely different as well, Florida is completely random every time, while California has a handful of sequences which it randomly picks from.
  13. Poly is softer and gives a smoother ride but they do wear out faster. Nylon wheels are harder and tend to cause more vibrations, also because they have less resistance the ride will run a little faster with nylon wheels. Five sets that quickly seems excessive. The park can get a harder polyurethane which should last longer.
  14. ^ I think your calculations are a little off. The lift hill on Prowler is around 260 ft long, 280ft if you count the entire straight section of track and the coaster is only 102 ft tall. Gold Striker is around the same length and is 108 ft tall. The length measurements were made by using the measure tool on google maps.
  15. ^ I feel like there are too many unknowns to calculate the lift hill beyond a very wide range. We are likely better off just guessing and would likely get better results.
  16. Actually the plans include an exploded view of a section which was labeled area of work. This section has exact measurements. Based on this it was possible to get a scale for the layout from a top down perspective. From there you could estimate track length based on other rides. Unless this ride has steep sections of track which is unlikely based on the drawings we have a pretty good idea of a reasonable range for the length.
  17. Once you adjust for expenses Knott's is actually in second place behind Cedar Point. Kings Island is third.
  18. I recommend people ride a coaster before they judge it. Different individuals like coasters for different reasons. I feel Storm Chaser is the worst ride that RMC has built which I have ridden. But that does not make it a bad coaster. I personally think it is better than most of the coasters at Kings Island. Last time I was at KK I went on the ride five times in a row.
  19. not all of that land is necessarily for the coater, CF has been making grand plazas for their new rides. You have to think that a lot of that land could be concrete for the plaza and the queue. They would also need land for a gift shop coming out of the exit, I imagine they'll capitalize on that as well. I suspect the entrance, exit, gift shop, etc will all be located where the old funnel cake stand was located. The park will not want the expense of another train crossing.
  20. It looks like the ride is being disassembled similar to off season maintence. I believe the buckets are for nuts, bolts, and other small pieces. Hate to say it but I suspect that this is it for the ride this season. Even if it is finished early enough to return it is a lot of work to rebuild it just to take it back down a few weeks later. Assuming it can be finished that quickly. I am guessing when it returns next year it will look brand new and be upgraded with LED lighting.
  21. We are not saying they will remove it. I think it should be moved to be honest. The spot it is in is taking up a chunk of land where they can put a couple different things. There is a big area of grass on the back side just sitting there. Not saying you do not want any grassy spots but this area could be used. Move back stunt coaster over by x flight I mean Firehawk and but the cars back on the old site and bring in a big flat. The problem with moving a coaster is that typically the cost to move one is around 50% of the cost to build it new. The cost is just too extreme to just move it across the park. The location is just terrible but it just too late and expensive to fix. On the plus side if it does get moved the theming would not be moved. I believe there is enough room to fit an antique car ride without moving the coaster, or to fit several flat rides. The main thing is to move the fence closer to the coaster and possibly route the walking path closer to Diamondback. For an antique car ride put load either near the stunt coaster or the bumper cars.
  22. If we are guessing stats here goes... Length: 3300 ft. Height: 100 ft. Speed: 53 MPH Manufacturer: GCI I suspect it will only run two trains. Has GCI built a coaster with 3?
  23. ^ I believe it would be possible to be that high but would require as you stated a 40-45 degree lift hill. The problem is that is a very steep lift hill and not used very often for example Intimin used a 45 degree lift hill on Millennium Force and I305. Goliath by RMC at Six Flags Great America is the only example of a wooden coaster with a 45 degree angle to my knowledge.
  24. Breakers express is a small expansion. It is currently shaped like a U and the are bringing the two sides together to form a rectangle. I remember seeing how many rooms would be added and it was a small number. Might cost a million. EDIT: Totally wrong on that will be a couple of million, I looked it up and they are adding 69 more rooms. The hotel at Knotts does need a renovation. The reason why I mentioned a new hotel or camp grounds the presentation was specific about developing land adjacent to parks and it listed 1,300 acres of undeveloped land. The next three bullet points were "Hotels, Cabins to expand accommodation services for guests.", "Amateur youth sports facilities to drive incremental attendance", "Complementary commercial development opportunities in retail, dining, entertainment". We know the sports facilities is Cedar Point, the commercial development is Great America, so what is the hotels and cabins. The hotel could be breakers express. So where are the cabins? Cedar Point again except no idea where they would be placed.
