  1. It very well may but providing those numbers could hurt them as well.  Past precedent and business practices indicate broadcasting current attendance hurts more than helps. When has the park ever sent out a Tweet, “Come on down, nobody is here today and everything is a station wait!”  This is an unprecedented situation so nobody really knows the impact until they try it.

What they had was fairly discrete, Ie you has to actively seek it. In your example, if the park put out an announcement like that I probably still wouldn’t go, as I’d assume that a huge influx of people would soon be coming (although if true then it would meet the park’s objective of such a statement)...

But none of this conversation really answers why the park removed that capability to see available spots left from the online system (and saying “follow the money” isn’t enough of a clue for me).

  2. Random/weird question from a first time dining plan user - is there anywhere on the website or app that tracks how many times you've used it, and where at?

Some people track it in their phones, just for themselves...

But there is nowhere in the app which tracks your meal usage or even tracks the time of your last meal in the park.

If you’re ever not sure if it’s been 4 hours solve your last meal, ask the food cash register attendants and scan your pass and tell you when it was last used for a meal (and when it will be available to use for your second meal)

  3. Not the reason...follow the $.

    What Is the reason?
If they put numbers on, then if there are more people like me, who see that the park is empty some random day, I’m more likely to make a last minute reservation and head over for a few hours in the afternoon. Maybe buy a treat or souvenir.

So if I follow the money, having the numbers in the reservation system enables more $$$. Removing them means I’m not going unless a friend goes or a forum confirms its a light attendance.

Currently on the KI website it says you can use the dining plan to “enjoy two meals every visit at 20 locations throughout the park“.

By my count you can only do this at 16:

    Chick-fil-A

    Chicken Shack

    Coney Bar-B-Que

    Coney Mall Skyline Chili

    Festhaus (La Rosa & Grill)

    Hank's Mexican Grill

    International Street La Rosa's

    Juke Box Diner

    Miami River Brewhouse

    Panda Express

    Planet Snoopy Grill

    Rivertown La Rosa's

    Rivertown Potato Works

    Skyline Chili

    Subway Coney Mall

    Tom & Chee

I’m guessing this is because they didn’t update the website to reflect that the waterpark isn’t open... as I think there are 4 more options there:

    BBQ place

    Subway

    The la Rosa/grill option

The little shack by the wave pool with burgers/brats.

  5. I understand why they're doing it...but in terms of public health that's just irresponsible. I'd venture to say it'd make a lot of people less likely to go, not more likely.

I assume the reason they aren’t is related to not communicating to their competition how many people are visiting the park every day... althoughi would have expected the entire chain to go to this.

is there a different reason that you think they removed these numbers? My other thought was that they removed the numbers as it’s more complicated now since some “spots” can be taken by general public (where Cedar Point is still only pass holders)

I agree that it isn’t helpful. I was considering going over for a few hours tonight, but I only wanted to go if there were a lot of spots left (Ie it wasn’t busy).

  6. Do they have outdoor seating for the Miami River Brewhouse?

    Yes.
It overlooks the Diamondback splash pond. It’s obviously not air conditioned but has some umbrellas. I don’t like the idea of eating indoors during COVID, so we are outside there today. Just tell them when you arrive that you will be eating outside and they will deliver your food out there.

  7. How does this compare to the other gigas?

    In my opinion...

I’ve ridden all of the North America giga.

    1) Fury

    2) leviathan

    3) millennium force

    4) Orion

    5) i305

Based on the front row experience only I might move Orion to slightly higher. But the back row was awful. There were just too much Gs and the ride wasn’t comfortable (hence why I have i305 as #5). It got good speed, but it seemed like that speed was then used to make a lot of turns and twists... where the top two in this list use their speed to mostly move “forward” and thus feel more like you’re just flying through the track.

    I’ve ridden 3 times.

Front was fun, but nothing amazing other than the first drop and the banked hill.

Back was awful. Like if I wait in line and then I’m told that I can’t wait for something near the front and most ride in a row near the back, is honestly rather just walk through and not ride at all.

Taken today, right outside the park gates. My guess is they abandoned the project because of the ‘Rona but haven’t updated all of the signage yet.

Although interesting that the signage references rona... which means at some point someone thought they would still be able to do both.

  9. Cod sandwich without cheese w/ spicy slaw and tots. One of my brewhouse favorites.

    Pro: Tasty.
Con: Took about 20 minutes to order/get food.

Another pro, we sat outside and I LOVED not smelling the drifting smoke of the smoking section that used to be right next to the outdoor dining. Eating while watching Diamondback splashdown was great. 900b797a274bbe28b4dacacdb9929da8.jpg

  10. Says on the sign only one access pass per day.  Wonder if that is being followed

They don’t have a way to know for sure, but I think most people understand that they are trying to ensure as many as possible get to ride.

That said, we rode early yesterday with a ticket and then went back over around 6 just to see what the line was like and since there was no line, we were told we could enter the cue without needing a ticket.

  11. So I'm just gonna say that if on the 7th and 8th Kings Island "knocked it out of the park", as it were, then today, the 9th, Cedar Point has "missed the ball entirely and somehow knocked the tee backwards into the janitor's closet".
My expectations were low, given maxed capacity and opening day, but I was not prepared for most all the rides to be closed, and for tickets to have been over delivered by more than 300%
Had a Sv ticket for between 12 and 1...arrived at 12:40 and was told 3.5 hours WITH THE TICKET....anyone in this forum could do a simple capacity calculation and determine the max number of tickets to distribute per hour...but apparently no one at Cedar Point is capable of such complex equations...seems the sum total of preparation was "here's a stack of tickets...they dont mean anything, but give em out till they're gone"
So...as usual...Kings Island makes Cedar Point look bad...and I mean very bad...they have 1 ride that stands out above all others...but if it takes 3.4/4hrs to get a ride even with a ticket they can keep it...I got on Orion in under 10 with proper ticket distribution.
It's just as bad on the other rides...I'm going to miss my time on millie because maverick was over ticketed

Opening day at KI was a mess too. They didn’t have the ticket system for Orion implemented yet. I wouldn’t fault CP... I think it’s just part of the process to react to issues as they occur.

  12. Same for us. I think if you find tiers then end of your slit it’s better. We had 3-4. Rode at 3:45. When  we got off the 4-5 cried had shied you and the lube was to the entrance of Area 72 waiting to enter the queue.

Sounds like Orion really messed up your brain. I can’t wait!

  13. Had 3 meals yesterday (2 for me, 1 for my wife) at the park and once again they were fantastic.  Chef Major and his team have continued their quality standards.  The new spinach and artichoke dip at the Brewhouse is definitely a home run (Red's all of fame grill pun intended ;)).  My wife had the pub burger and I had the Trailblazer (the new name for the impossible burger).  Looking forward to trying more next time.

Is the dip in the dining plan? I assume both burgers were.

  14. 2020 brings the opening of meteor canteen as well as some likely changes to food services to comply with COVID guidelines.

Also, during the off-season there was an image that appeared in the app regarding pre ordering food in park through the app (it appears that has been removed).

Thread to discuss all things 2020 Dining at KI!

  15. Orion has been dispatching daily all week.
I wonder if they know something about a possible opening... or of they are starting to do ride op training.... or if there is an issue they are working on...
