So we went to winterfest last night just for dinner and walking around a bit.
Left by 7:00.
As we left, my kids noticed 3 different pocket knives near the base of some bushes.
Not all together, and it wasn’t like they were walking in the landscaping pulling back branches.
This was as we walked out of the park we could clearly see these knives just sitting there.
Although there typically aren’t issues with winterfest… knowing the history this season of teenage fights; I picked up the knives and brought them back to security to deal with (they locked them up on the lockers… so hopefully the owners could describe them and get them back???)
I believe if you do have a weapon, security will allow you to turn it over to them, they lock it in a locker, and then give you a “valet ticket” of sorts to get it when you leave.
Should the PA announcement as you enter better explain this process? Currently it just says “weapons are not allowed, please return them to your vehicle”… and apparently people are too lazy or just don’t value their knife enough to justify the 5 minute walk back to their car at that point. Or should security sweep the nearby landscaping with a metal detector throughout the night to locate dropped weapons (and maybe add some small signs by common hiding places telling people to not leave items in the bushes)?
Or am I an over paranoid parent who should have just left 3 knives in plain site along the path?

They may not actually be repaving the lot right now, just preparing to repave. Most asphalt plants shut down in the area for the winter and reopen in early spring.
They are indeed repaving right now.
A section near the entry gate (sort of as you drive to preferred parking) is now completed. Repaved and new yellow lines painted.
The parking section signs (Ie row numbers) were still removed when I went last night, but surely they will be reinstalled when the project is done.

How about some updates on winterfest dining plan options?
(But in this topic vs a new food one)

I’ve been on over 200 different coasters, and visit KI as my home weekly. Invertigo in the only coaster I will only ride once a season. It’s just not enjoyable at all for me.

Found it.
Looks like they are celebrating the large population of Arab Americans in the US; (technically Dearborn, MI… but that’s close).

Other than weather, I haven’t seen Orion down at all this year. I’ve got about 50 visits to the park.

I noticed in chefs Twitter he makes reference to looking for a golden ticket for food.
While I LOVE the chef plate, it doesn’t have a mass appeal for most guests.
I really think if they allowed you to use a meal on a snack instead (ice cream, funnel cake, etc) that would be the kind of improvement that the masses would respond to.

Last Chef's Plate I was talking to Don and Chef Major and Chef said through Haunt (I'm assuming weather permitting).
I was told the same… although they didn’t sound positive.
It’s Friday and they haven’t put out anything yet… so I’m not sure if I should plan to be there or not tomorrow.

Word I heard is it will
I’m hopeful… but also realize that with the tasting options they might not do it (like they stopped during carnival )

Drove through Yesterday. Place was packed. Almost every rv site was filled, every cabin look occupied.
People complaining that the price per night was too high seem to have been incorrect.

Anyone hear what the chefs plate tomorrow is?

The mobile ordering, snack inclusion and 50% off all dining for the top membership tiers help SF make up for some of their food quality deficiencies.
Exactly. So if Kings Island could maintain food quality while adding mobile ordering (shouldn’t really cost them much and it spends up the ordering/payment process for everyone, so it could actually generate more via shorter food lines)…
Likewise if they would allow meal credits to be used on small items INSTEAD of a meal… they might also save (Ie if I use it on a $6 ice cream instead of a $13 pizza meal)

I’ve gone to island smokehouse many times, and I usually get the wings. It’s always been 4 wings. If they changed it to 2, that would surprise me… and I agree that I would stop ordering it.
If I’m heading to the park just to eat, I like island smokehouse as it’s usually east to park and walk to in a short amount of time.

Just came from a week of six flags parks.
Kings Island does tons of stuff better than six flags… not notably the quality of options on the dining plan.
That said, some things I enjoyed about six flags dining were:
Ability to use a meal credit on a snack instead (ice cream, funnel cake, slushee, candy from the candy shops)… in addition to including one snack a day with their two meal deluxe dining plan. (I’m not even asking you add a snack… just allow me to use my meal credit on a snack instead would be really nice sometimes)
Online ordering and dedicated lines. I know KI has experimented with this… but the six flags system actually worked really well.
You order in the app and select your time, and then you can “pay” in the app with a credit card or just apply your lunch or dinner credit to your meal. Then the locations have a dedicated online order pick up line. Not only was it a lot faster to get my food, but all the payment is handled by the app, so the process is just faster for everyone.
The six flags locations could turn this off at any time if they got too busy… but having pre set reservation times I think ensured that not too many people were trying to order for the same time.

Anyone doing chef plate today?
They said it would return after carnival… so that would mean today… but I hadn’t seen anything.
Although maybe they canceled it due to the heat

Good news… grand carnival is done this weekend.
So next Wednesday the chef’s plate should return..
so only 1 more week of discussing the merits of plates vs trays until we can get back to drilling over excellent meal plan options.

Anywhere outside the park that takes VISA.
True… although do you know of places that accept credit cards… but not visa?

My question is how does the park plan on dealing with kids/teenagers who have been dropped off at the park with say $50 cash on them and they don't have a credit card? If everything is cashless, then how are they supposed to purchase food, drinks, etc. since they don't have a card?
That’s exactly the point of the cash to card machines.
Teen puts cash into machine
Pre loaded debit card pops out
Teen uses card
Value left on card and be used ANYWHERE outside of the park that takes credit cards.

A big part of the problem is that ride operators are not trained on show quality. They are trained on whether or not the ride is running correctly, etc., but not trained on what speaker should be playing what sound and so on and so forth. Talking with employees, they had no idea that Mystic’s plaza or Orion’s station ever even had music…
The ride ops shouldn’t have to even think about things like this. This should be part of the maintenance team.
