The Interpreter
Includes a very unsafe practice by two park patrons, which, amazingly, is commented on by the narrator, without disapproval! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWhbHG40OL8
TOPGUN1993
Yeah.... Running is highly dangerous.
CoastersRZ
I believe he might also have been referring to the fact that the narrator was talking about not riding the rides with back or neck problems. When the narrator mentioned that, the video showed a clip of a guy wearing a neck brace riding a slow teacup spinning ride.
The Interpreter
And in either event, the excuse can be that it was mocked for the video...but the neck brace incident was accompanied by an advisory NOT to ride if you have medical conditions. The running was in no way discouraged. Running IS highly dangerous in a park setting, as I have noted many times. Falls on midways are the number one cause of injuries in parks. It will be interesting to see if and how running is controlled each morning as Diamondback opens. Particularly in light of the New York WalMart incident, the park should think long and hard before it does only what it has in the past to stop the morning stampede. It is only a matter of time before someone is severely injured in the "running of the bulls" that occurs to most new rides in most parks. Just as in New York, it is apt to be someone in security or another, non-running park patron who is injured. And in whose control is stopping the running? Certainly not the other guests. It can be controlled...meanwhile, at Kennywood, a safety video has no negative comment as guests are "running around," quite literally. CedarPointer
Cedar Point has been pretty good about running during the morning, every time I've been there.
Guest rcfreak339
Wow I think I had a Seizure or something at the begining....
raptor
Running whether dangerous or not is unfair, if you get there early and wait in line, you shouldn't be required to run disrespecting others in order to keep your place in line. I was going to make my first Kennywood/Idlewild trip last year, but I postponed it to this year, I can't wait to ride the tumblebug (turtle) and the whip, and the Catepillar at Idlewild. I do wish they had left the old mill alone, I get tired of every non wild ride having to be turned into a cartoon.

I quite like the Garfield ride. It was a nice way of turning a, in my opinion, tired older ride into a cute family ride that kids love. Would you have rather seen it torn down? The new dark ride (Ghostwood Estate) is also really good. It's a HUGE improvement over the old dark ride in that space.
The Interpreter
At least Kennywood renovated its dark ride...unlike what Cedar Point did to its Pirate ride. What a strange park Cedar Point is when it comes to dark rides...kind of like Kings Island and Ferris Wheels...
raptor
No, I agree I'm glad they didn't tear it down, I'm looking very forward to riding it, I love them kind of rides, I do however think the old mill atmosphere would have been awesome as opposed to all the bright colors that I see in the pictures. and I am also looking forward to Ghostwood Estates, although (I know I'm in the minority) I don't care for the guns and targets craze, making a video game out of dark rides, and hearing laser noises through the whole thing, but I guess that's what the kids like, but I love the dark rides. CedarPointer
The Old Mill was more of a blank slate than the Pirate Ride.
The Interpreter
Dark rides wouldn't be turning into "shoot-em up" rides left and right if more modern riders could keep their hands to themselves and their body parts inside the cars at all times. KIfan73
^ That is a good point. Have people always done the stupid things at amusement parks that we see now? It does seem like that every new attraction has to become a little more "bulletproof" than before.
The Interpreter
No...once upon a time, almost all patrons behaved. And they understood that if they didn't, they might die, be thrown out of the park, or be severely disciplined by their parents. But that's a topic for another day. Coincidentally, there also were no season passes (and still there are none at Kennywood), and you paid by the ride. I think all these things are somewhat related.
