KI FANATIC 37
I am new to the posts and only been to a few amusement parks; Kings Island many many many times, Kings Dominion, and Busch Garden Williamsburg. ( I know I haven't been to Cedar Point but I'm going to soon). What parks do you think I should visit next year?
House
Here is a list I have been to. Cedar Point - Everyone must go here at least once. Hershey - This park was ok, worth 1 visit. Busch Gardens Tampa - Great Park worth a visit Six Flags GreatAmerica - This park sucks I wouldn't bother Schlitterbahn South Padre - This park wasn't as big as I had hoped for. Go to the one by San Antonio for sure. Disney World - Worth 1 visit, but go to one of the other Disney's for thrill rides.
Diamondback FOF
What parks do you think I should visit next year? Well, I've heard that Eden Park is a nice little area. Also, Central Park in New York City is a must visit sometime in your life. But seriously, I don't know because I've not really been anywhere but Disney and Seaworld. So, from my experience, I'd have to tell you to visit Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Seaworld Orlando. From hearing people talk, I'd say Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, Dollywood, Coney Island, and Holiday World. It just depends on how far you want to travel. how much money you're willing to spend, how long you can take off work, and your interests. DaveStroem
We have been to a lot of parks this year. It depends on what you are looking for in a park. We love Disney World and are going in September for our second time this year. Others that we will be returning to are Holiday World, Kings Dominion & Canada's Wonderland. I will list all the parks we have been to, if you have any questions about them feel free to ask. WDW Epcot WDW Magic Kingdom WDW Hollywood Studios WDW Animal Kingdom Kings Island Cedar Point Kennywood Busch Gardens Williamsburg Kings Dominion Six Flags America Waldameer Darien Lake Canada's Wonderland Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Holiday World
The Interpreter
The ONE place that seldom gets talked about around these precincts that I would highly recommend you visit is Knoebel's Amusement Resort in Elybsurg, Pennsylvania. The place has so much to commend it, from its bucolic setting to the rides to the way it is operated. Other than that, the usual suspects come to mind... Your topic title says theme parks, though....Knoebel's is most definitely of the amusement variety.
Beast1979
Here's all of the ones I have gone to with a summery: Walt Disney World: Too young to remember, but have heard some great reviews of it Universal Studios Orlando: Must visit whenever you're in Florida. Absolutely fantastic park with tons to do. Beech Bend: This is a small little park in Kentucky. While it has a carnival style feel to it, it's a great park with friendly staff and a kick ass GCI woodie! Dollywood: Barely even an amusement park. From the time I got there from the time I left, I must have ridden only 4 or 5 different rides. But I still had a bomb. Friendly staff, great rides, beautiful shops, stores, restaurants, shows, the whole nine yards. GO. Coney Island Cincinnati: Underestimated park by far. Has lots to do, despite having only one coaster, and the pool is great. If you get the time, head on over. Kings Island: Well, duh! I can list a billion reasons to go, but I only have to name one: Diamondback. 'nuff Said! Cedar Point: Without a doubt the best park I've been to. From the moment I saw the skyline to the moment I left the peninsula, I had an amazing time. The whole park is fantastic. I think only one word is adequate to describe my feelings towards Cedar Point: Love. Any other park I wouldn't know.
DaveStroem
Terpy, we will be heading to Knoebels next month. Our plans for that day are Lakemont for an hour or so then head to Knoebels for the afternoon followed by Hershey that evening. I figure that we will have about 5 hours at Knoebels. Since this will be a Saturday, they don't sell wristbands, just tickets we only plan on doing the coasters & the haunted house. I am hopeful that they will have the Flying turns open by then but not holding my breath. I also see that they just got a new kiddie coaster so since we are credit whores we will have to give that a spin too.

House
Sorry to go off topic but why do grown adults go on kiddie coasters? I ride to have fun, and kiddie coasters are not fun. Ive been on beastie and this one at the indy zoo. They were not really fun at all.

The Interpreter
You obviously never rode The High Speed Thrill Coaster at Knoebel's. It was far more fun than at least half of modern day full sized steel coasters. And I don't even count steel coasters, other than hypers and Volcano: The Blast Coaster. KIfan1980
Sorry to go off topic but why do grown adults go on kiddie coasters? I ride to have fun, and kiddie coasters are not fun. Ive been on beastie and this one at the indy zoo. They were not really fun at all. Two reasons spring to mind: - Riding a coaster like Little Bills is for the fun I have spending time with my 3 year old doing something he likes - Riding the FOC or other classic junior coasters (I wouldn't call it a kiddie) is also considered fun by many. While it doesn't solve the Diamondback or Beast adrenaline junkie need, it serves its purpose well. I'll take a FOC ride over an Invertigo ride or an AE ride any day

DiamondbackLover
For anyone who hasn't been there- these are all great parks-- Kings Island (Where else) Cedar Point (Coaster capital of the world) Universal Studios L.A. (Amazing tours, rides, and shows) Dollywood (Great theme park with two great coasters) Holiday World (Clean, friendly, small park) Disneyland (Of course) Six Flags St. Louis (Fun place for a day) Coney Island (Good fun for a day)
HTCO
This is no place like WDW. Go there. Make sure you stay on site and you can enjoy a lot of perks other's cannot. Every time I go there... It's just. Awesome. I love it. Also visit: Cedar Point Universial Studios Orlando, and IOA Kings Dominion Haven't been to much other parks so I can't really say a lot. The Interpreter
For anyone who hasn't been there- these are all great parks-- ....Cedar Point (Coaster capital of the world)... Coney Island (Good fun for a day)... a. Young'uns! Cedar Point is "America's Roller Coast" or "America's Rock n Roller Coast." Kennywood is "Coaster Capital of the World." Or so said the marketing slogans. Then there was "Get to the Point!" and "The Amazement Park," both Cedar Point. b. Coney Island? Of Ohio, I take it. Sadly, since Astroland's demise, though Coney Island of Brooklyn is still fun, it ain't what it once was. I would say get there while you can, though. The Cyclone and Deno's WonderWheel are protected, but everything else is truly up in the air right now.

The Interpreter
Really? Visit Valleyfair and get back to me. There's a reason it's for sale. Or visit California's Great America, and let me know what you think. Or even Worlds of Fun, as it is being operated this year. There are better choices. Now, I will admit that one can hardly go wrong recommending the likes of Canada's Wonderland, Kings Dominion, Dorney Park, etc., (not to mention the obvious Cedar Point and Kings Island in this geographic area....) auge.dog
I have never been to an Amusment Park that I did not thoroughly enjoy. Not that I have been to many mind you, but now that I have kids that seem to love to go, I'm sure the list will expand. I think if you go with the right attititude, you will likely not be disappointed. Parks I've been to within the past few years - Disney World (Majic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom); KI; BGE and Disneyland (both sides). I went to Cepar Point about 16 years ago and it was great then, but I know it has changed a lot since then. Once my son passes 54", I'll take the family and go back. Perhaps next year - more likely 2010.
Coasterfun
Parks I've been to: Magic Kingdom: Visited twice. Best for kids or a Disney fan. Also, the gold standard on how to run a park. EPCOT: I enjoyed when I went 17 years ago, but I sure it's changed a lot since then. Disney's Hollywood Studios: Same here, although I'd like to see this park again. Universal Studios Orlando: Excellent, well-themed park. I've been here twice, and the most recent time I was very impressed. Islands of Adventure: Another top-notch park that is fun to walk through even if you don't like to ride. Not to say the rides here are great! Spiderman should not be missed. I need to return to ride Hulk and see Harry Potter. Kings Island: I personally like it better since Cedar Fair took over, but I understand why some prefer Paramount. Diamondback is a great coaster that we are really lucky to have. The Beast is also a classic although the trims are annoying. Cedar Point: I pretty much agree with Jackson on this one. No where else can I think of, where you have overabundance of great rides. Everywhere you look it's coasters. Kings Dominion: Volcano and Grizzly make this park worth a visit. It's also an interesting park to walk around in while it is busy. A lot of original themeing is there from the Taft days and it's interesting to see a giant liberty bell in their version of River Town. Busch Gardens Williamsburg: If I lived in Virgina, I'd probably have a season pass. Beautiful park, all rides were top notch, and all who can need to ride the Wolf before it is gone! Sea World Orlando: This is the park that made want visit other Busch parks. A great park for eveeryone, not a lot of rides, but all attractions were good. Note: I was there pre-Manta. Carowinds: A great little park, loved AfterBurn, and Thunder Road. Looking forward to next years coaster. I also liked the staff and parking was handled. Camden Park: A fun park just for rides that aren't in major parks. The Whip, haunted house, and Big Dipper are musts at this park. One of the few places you experience a ride with a person stopping the ridecar! Forgot one! Six Flags Fiesta Texas: Nice park that I visited last year. It wasn't busy when I went, walk-ons on everything but the Rattler. One of my all-time favorite train rides, you go through a tunnel past a waterfall. Another pretty park that is fun just to walk through and look at the landscaping.

OHfamilyguy
I have been to these parks and have somewhat ranked from best to worst overall. Cedar Point - top of the line park, however not best option if kids are under 48" Busch Gardens Europe - beautiful park with great rides, nice themed regions King's Island - good variety of rides, may be best option if kids are under 48" Holiday World (Santa Claus IN) - Free soft drinks, free parking, nice theme areas with waterpark, great clean park HersheyPark (Hershey PA) - has expanded with new water areas, great variety of rides Kennywood (Pittsburgh PA) - good variety of rides but park seemed dirty last trip(2008), traditional park Knoebel's (Elysburg PA) - went this year and was not too impressed; free admission, abundance of rides, GREAT food, but location was near nothing and workers were unfriendly locals, traditional park Idlewild Park (Ligonier PA) - great for younger children w/ Mr Roger's and Storybook Forest areas Dutch Wonderland (Lancaster PA) - great for younger children w/ many kiddy rides Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (Louisville KY) - located on Kentucky State Fairgrounds, not exactly a beautiful park but many Looney Toons themed rides in Kiddyland, waterpark available Camden Park (Huntington WV) - traditional park w/older rides, good for under 48" crowd Lake Winnepesaukah (Rossville GA) - traditional park w/older limited rides, concerts offered on Sunday evenings
